Also sketch book paper decays quickly, try archivable paper like stonehenge :) Stonehenge is also really nice for drawing on, picks up the paper really nicely :D

yor like me, I like to start with the eyes and work to the nose, mouth and then headshape ;) Atm amm not too good at smudging, I always get finger prints on the work lol. Do you use hair spray as a fixative, alot cheaper than buying artist fixatives, at least thats what I was tought in college.

I have a question about using pencils. I was taught to shade very gradually and create smooth gradients via neurotically going over the same area. It seems too brutal to be fun. Anyone else have a better strategy?

I think the artistic skill here is how much detail is put into this drawing, it is one thing to copy the picture, it is totally another to get so precise and accurate that it looks like the drawing was just the picture without the colors
