  • sounds promising

  • what a GREAT series, and i never enjoyed so called 'period films' but this had me hooked at once!

  • this whole cast is so fucking ace

  • Imagine living a life where everyday is a weekend. Sweet.

  • To find out what the cast of Downtown Abbey had to say about their Emmy win backstage: go to attagirl1814's channel . Or type in “Downtown Abbey Cast and Crew Emmy Acceptance Speech Backstage" enjoy!!!

  • Dan Stevens, Maggie Smith, lush costumes, period drama.

Okay that's it, I must catch this.

  • I always get hungry watching Downton, it's like Food Network for half the show

  • @fluidicmethod harkens back to upstairs downstairs years ago, but upstairs point of view now. love it.

  • @fluidicmethod oh my days! So true lol

  • @herafan5

She has never had to work a 9 to 5 weekday job in her aristocratic life so a "weekend" is pretty much out of her vocabulary.

  • I didn't get it, Did she ask "what is a weekend?" coz she is old or coz she was being sarcastic?

  • @herafan5 It's an interesting line because many old-world upper-class didn't understand the idea of staff having a "week end" back then. It was a new concept.

What's curious is that now it's 100 years later, yet we're all working on weekends again!

  • @bored1980 yes before labor laws. neat this show is sort of upstairs downstairs from the upstairs point of view.

  • A job ? lolll What is a weekend? lol rich folk lollllll

  • ITV is for chavs

  • @fancythathat how is it for chavs

  • What an incredible cast! I can't wait to see the second part! Will have to wait until September????

  • in case you were wondering what song plays during the opening credits its called "Downton Abbey" by TV Players on iTunes. :)

  • Dan Stevens is one helluva' gorgeous guy!

  • What we now call a 'weekend' was not known as such then. When you referred to it, it was called 'Friday to Monday,' this being the period in which house guests would stay with you, they arrived on Friday afternoon and left sometime on Monday morning...

  • Maggie Smith, the day you will pass to a better life it we will pass to a much worse, it will be an INCREDIBLY SAD ONE for the world (I caN just imagine your face reading this "don't worry darling, I have no immediate plans..."...) - like all true actors you have 5 expressions and with those you convey the entire spectrum of human emotions...how do you do it? I ADORE you and have already "passed on" the 'what is the week-end?" line to dozens of laughing friends... SPLENDID JOB!!!!!

  • @PBS Thank you so much, I am a VERY happy woman, I have Downton Abbey on DVD.. and I can dip in here too... Oh joy unbound my cup runneth over indeed... YIPPEE ... :0)x

  • "Before I knock you down and serve your brain as fritters."

  • ah but the costumes!! Difficult to follow the story while I'm so distracted by those dresses.

  • I am loving this series. Finally something great to watch again on Masterpiece Theater. Maggie Smith is wonderful, as always. I like watching this because it's so my family.

  • Oh my god! she doesn't know what a weekend is?! what the hell?!

  • they're that rich?!?? can only imagine what a lifestyle it had been

  • Can't wait till Sunday!

  • This looks like a great series! Does anyone know where i can watch or download it?

  • @mimitemple Did you find where you could watch it ?

  • @Ckordobah i'd like to know if you know of a place i can watch it thanx! ???

  • Is it my imagination or do the servants have northern accents?

  • @LucindaLC aye they are fine northern english accents lol

  • @LucindaLC Yup, they have Northern accents!

  • Dame Maggie Smith is a living legend! - "What is a weeked?"

  • @324wilson - now I know what gay people must have felt like when someone quoted a clint eastwood character.

  • @324wilson I did laugh really hard at this line. Then, I found out that Edwardian noble ladies don't do any work, but rather study arts, tea, languages and a few sports for as long as they want and when they want. For example they would have tea for up to four hours...

  • no srly, what is a weekend?

  • :O :40 its McGonagall

  • What is a weekend?

    hehehe
