Gordon does talk. Just you don't hear it cause don't you think it would be weird or odd to hear your character speak while in first person? I mean he has to talk, he tells the rebels to follow him and everything.

ok when you hit e (or whatever your use key is) on the rebels, or on any npc that you can interact with, they say some line, and why would it be that theres a button to move the rebels to a spot and make them stay there, he has to tell them where to go and to stay and to recall them.

There's a program called GCFscape that allows you to open up the .GCF files that Valve stored all the info for the game in. You could very easily obtain that file, and the quality would be teriffic.

That was Dog. Eli Vance built him to protect Alyx when she was a kid and according to Alyx, he didn't start out as big as he is now but she's been adding to him ever since she got him. Dog proves to be a very loyal companion when he turns up in the games.

I actually have a slight feeling he's not completely gone from Half Life. I know it says he fell from the citadel but in Half Life 2, right before he ran and left the gravity gun, he's talking to the Combine Advisor and mentions something about a host body and finishes with something like, "If that's what it takes." This part is repeated in Half Life 2: Episode 1 right before we come face to face with a Combine Advisor in the falling citadel, instead it's a recording of the same thing.
