StudioLORE, we rescue and care for otters that wouldn’t survive without our help. This stranded pup was examined by our vet, who determined she was dehydrated and malnourished, and that she had a potentially fatal infection. Because of this, the pup was not a candidate for return to the wild, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service authorized the aquarium to manage the pup in its sea otter exhibit.
Otters on exhibit can hardly be called "rescued" in my opinion. I'm a bit biased, but I seriously hate all the publicity people get for basically trapping animals onto display. Although these guys appear to have more freedom- I'm just raving on about the time I saw two baby dolphins in the same cage that was less than a foot tall and only a foot wide. About half a foot thick, it was pretty depressing.
Otters are awesome and so cute!
