Except for watching this in the morning I can almost feel my bed and smell the coal smoke as I fell asleep, in Houston, when I was a baby and toddler. I miss it--The Southern Pacific Railroad.
Dang, what a shame they tore all that out like that. Nice catch on the Union Pacific, & the others too. Very nicely done Drew. 5/5*. BTW, it's Union Pacific, not "United" Pacific. ;)
Thanks Frank. The yard had a long and useful life at least. Operations were just shifted to other parts of the city. I assume that there's honey in the speaker, however, the bees didn't want to share with me.
wait why was the yard shut down and now its torn down

@orangetrain66 Has to do with the rail deregulation in the 70's, the economic collapse, and UP merging with SP.

@orangetrain66 This kind of thing happens often during mergers.

Wow great job! it's amazing how a such a large yard could have been abandoned like that.

Perhaps the Southern Pacific getting merged into the UP behemouth might have had something to do with it? 8)

@Amiduffer Naw, SP sold Taylor Yard to Metrolink in 1991. For years SP was moving operations to West Colton.

SP officially went out of existance in 1988.

This is a 5 star ***** video, Drew. Kind of makes me sad to see all those old places that were once vibrant and active, beside an active track.
Only you would find honey in an old speaker. :-)
