Only after the unsuccessful air superiority war over GB (Battle of Britain), and the fact the German navy was destroyed by 1941, did hitler realise GB was un-takeable by force. GB was probably the most important target in the war for Hitler, as it would of allowed a staging point for an eventual invasion of the USA.
