Kostner (another fast skater) can do a 3-3-3 but I think Arakawa's is better. Otherwise...maybe nobody..I've never seen it done anyway.

Arakawa has the greatest combination of artistry and power I've seen, she's even more amazing up close in the rink!!

I agree about wearing simple clothes+leggings too- I think the same about Yu-Na Kim and Ando Miki, they look so athletic and cool in that style.

You know, it's crazy how good she was. but the fact was, the ladies field was lacking so much that night that she did on 5 triples and got the gold. she didn't even need a 3-3. The LP at the olympics was a little flat in 2006. Shizuka did great, but she didn't bring the house down. I think the 2010 olympics are going to be awesome. You'll have so many good skaters...

Yeah i totally agree with you. shizuka in practice is awesome and its great she won gold but the LP's (all of them) were very conservative. I would've liked to see someone mindblowing performance, but still shizuka was a pleasure to watch. can't wait for 2010!! its gonna be sick!

We are not going to bringing another figure skater's name into focus but because you brought it up, Arakawa has officially retired from the competition after her win. It won't be that difficult for other skaters to take her place, but I am banking on it that Sasha will win the 2010 olympic games.

If 2006 was flat, exactly what Olympic year had so much better performances? Looking back, it's usually a case of whose obvious mistakes were less flagrant. Mercifully, Shizuka's LP was clean, elegant and musical in an unforgettable way and likely the best Olympic LP ever to this point. The 2008 World's were nothing special, so we'll see about 2010 but it will be tough for this crop to reach what Shizuka did.

I'm not sure that Sasha did a single practice on the competition ice. So while they ran her music, she was not actually there because she opted to practice offsite--like Scott says around 2:45, "if she (Sasha) felt like she needed to be there, she'd be there." So that leads me to believe, she wasn't.

Even if my own triple loop is inconsistent, i am quite acquainted with the IJS since i compete under the system...but to make my point neway, if she were to land that jump exactly the same during the olympics the judges would've given her a random choice of -1, 0 or +1 for the grade of execution. i still give her the credit for being able to do it consistently...i mean, my triple toe triple toe combo is a disgrace compared to shizuka's triple triple triple combo ^-^
