i have mixed feelings about andy kaufman. i never found anything he ever said to be funny but the man had an insane amount of charisma

he wasnt a comedian maybe thats why..He wasnt trying to be funny he was a variety show dude he could sing relatively well and had many talents. however Foriegn man is one of the best characters ever as is tony clifton. Really his whole purpose was to make us question what entertainment/comedy was supposed to be.like telling jokes that just get updated but regurgitated over and over..like being married sucks because..and white people suck because and black people are lazy and so on and so on.

Once people feel like they're on his side of the joke, rather than the receiving end, they get to thumb their noses at everyone else. Instead of being about appreciating a great comedic premise, crucial timing or whatever, it's about massaging one's own ego. And that's all he ever did was egotistically attack people with his passive-aggressive inanity. It's really not different than Crank Yankers, trolling innocent people.
