I love the debut CD, so I bought it directly from Soulcookers. Count Me Out is my favorite song on the album, and it's very cool to watch her running to perfection with only the Hammond organ. I hope you come back with new material soon.
In my opinion, SSP is one of the great Organ Combos emerged in the last decade, along with Link Quartet, The New Mastersounds, Big Organ Trio, McLemore Avenue, Diplomats of Solid Sound, Sugarman Three ...
Thanks, before I had the half moon switch installed, I used the jack output to a preamp foot pedal, you could adjust the gain on it so I always used to wind it up a bit till it growled!!
Very good!! and it sounds like my C3..there is even the leslie hum from the horns at the beginning!..seems to be played here in my living room with the leslie near my hears!!
Hello, I don't think there was reverb on the organ when this clip was filmed (or a leslie switch, which i why I had to use the noisy footpedal preamp)..I have since had a 1964 Organmate valve/tube spring reverb wired in to the organ's main amp...it sounds superb.
Great stuff!! I'm NEEDING to have another B-3. I would love to know where I can get one for a really good price. I had one that was on the road for so many years, it became the money pit. I'd like to find one that was not abused.
I used to service Hammonds, 30 years ago. The C3 is exactly the same generator, keyboard assembly, 2nd and 3rd harmonic percussion, and electronics as the B3, just in an uglier Church cabinet. Find a C3 that has been sitting about and move the innards into your B3 cabinet. Use the original B3 preamp to preserve the open space linkage to the expression pedal.
The expression pedal is the foot pedal that the organist rocks back and forth to change the volume. On some rythmic tunes the organist uses it to add "punch" to notes or chords. On the Hammond, this is a variable light shutter arrangement so you never hear electronic noise when it's moved. On other manufacturer's organs, you hear static when the volume potentiometer gets worn and the pedal is moved.
Mr JD.Hammond Sir, You are The Man. Cristina an' me got my new 1969 T Series organ up the stairs, then at her suggestion, we've moved the table, and both Hammonds are now in the living room, now re-named the Music room! - just spent two hours playing and exploring, and I absolutely love it to bits.Drawbars are certainly doin' it for me.
Great video! The tone is great, the touch is great, the timing is great and the ideas are vibey! Nothing more to ask from a Tonewheel organ jamming player! You're a bad cat! ;)
Could you please help me out de-crypting what you played at around 1:46? That would really help me out, thanks in advance, I don't want to be hassle, just asking!
Hello Tonewheelstudent, thanks for your comments..
The tune is in E minor but shifts to the chord of G major, the lick starts with a descent of thirds.
G+B,G+B,G+B, F+A,F+A, E+G,E+G, D+F, C+E, then a sort of funk riff in thirds (in G major) Bb+Db,B+D,C+E,Bb+Db,B+D,G+B,with a little blues riff at the end....hope this helps... J.D

Ok thanks. Are you familiar with the reverb from Trek II? (RV-1C reverberation unit)
I am consider to install this unit in my 1963 B3, perhaps I should check out the Organmate as well?
fystasjoppheng 3 years ago
I think the reverb you can hear is coming from the PR-40 cabinet also attached, this has the 'necklace' style springs

Oh ok, I'm just used to that being called a Swell pedal or just plain Volume pedal.

Great stuff! I've been following SSP for some time now - 2 questions:

2. Do you ever play gigs in London? Never seen you down this part of the world.
Thanks for the funk guys! Great vid.
