@mitsubishirocks1 Iphone is not the best and Evo is WAAAAY better. More Roms than anyone can deal with I'm an Android user forever now and I own an Iphone and Ipod Touch. Both Jailbroken.
Congratulations on providing your highly subjective opinion. I've tried both and I much prefer the EVO over the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 is a great piece of tech that fits a lot of people. Just yesterday I recommended an iPhone 4 to my aunt when it arrives at Verizon next month. As for me, I really can't stand the iOS platform and am happy to be in the Android camp. Enjoy your iPhone, they're pretty snazzy.

I'm sorry i dont care if the evo is bigger or have 3 more mega pixels then Iphone I just cant deal with the short life battery I mind as well stick with a blackberry if imma have to keep my phone on the charge half of the day I rather go with the Iphone + their plans are better(rollover min,unlimited txt,A-List, an more you just cant beat it and never had any problems with my bill or service like verizon (your bill never stays the same)
Is the battery life worse? Yes. Is it horrible? No. I get through a whole day no problem. Also, you've missed one huge point: battery life is not a huge deal when the manufacturer assumes you're competent enough to change a battery yourself. BTW, enjoy paying per GB on AT&T. Sprint, unlimited text and data, still cheaper than AT&T.
@reiththestud the battery can be annoying, but if you think at&t has better plans than sprint then you've lost your mind haha. at&t sucks. why do you think you think there's no 4G? why do you think you can't use facetime over 3G? why do you think you can't tether or hotspot? at&t, at&t, and at&t.
@reiththestud Actually battery is a huge deral because people dont want to carry around a charger all day, Wich is why alot of droid owners on verizon have gone back to their blackberrys. I can';t speak for the evo because i haven't played with one but if it's like other android devices the battery life can't be tooo great.
@jezzy803 all you have to do is turn off automatic fetching of the data. set it to like once every 2 hours. its more than enough and that way you get days, yes days of battery out of it. The battery is the last thing that bothers me on the Evo.
@stlallstar ok stop right there you have no idea what your talking about i have an Iphone 4 and have UNLIMITED DATA my phone is not jailbroken.... agreed "so said 4g allows the evo to move SLIGHTLY faster" but look at what your giving up with an EVO..1) net-workability..... storage..... BATTERY LIFE!!!!..... why because the evo loads pages less than half a second faster???????? the monthly bills are the same bud check your facts!!!!
@Jamhero20 ...ummm no...i believe UR the one who needs to check their facts...my chick has an iphone and the monthly bills are FAR from the same....in fact, Sprint advertises their unlimited plan at 69.99/month...add the 9.99/monthly fee for 4g connectivity and u'll be paying around 83-86 bucks a month....u get cheaper AND superior service with Sprint....if u think att has better and cheaper service than Sprint, ur either blind or just a complete dumbass....u pick
@stlallstar Sprint might provide a cheaper service but it does not give superior service. I've had a sprint phone before and I had to deal with the constant issue of no service. The fact that I had to go outside of my town to get actual service was horrible. I would often need to use the phone to make a call and I would have to hold it up in the air and walk just to get a signal.
where did you get all the roms for NESOID Lite, I would like to load all those games to, by the way GREAT Review love my EVO but the battery still sucks even with App killer fixed brightness running they need to double the cells
Good to know. Glad some people were brave enough to test this. I baby my phone too much. The Ghost Armor I put on it is working great. BTW, watch part 3 to see what case I'm using. FYI, I returned it. It doesn't fit if you install ghost armor.
Your comparing an original iPhone to an EVo. That does not make sense. You said that the visuals on both screens are comparable which is interesting being that the iPhone is 3 years older than the EVO. The iPhone 4 screen blows the EVO screen out of the water. The iPhone 4 would also blow the EVO out of the water with its construction. The durability of an iPhone is unsurpassed.
I actually love your review, I just don't understand why you don't compare the EVO to something more comparable.
Num1, the iPhone 4 screen doesn't "Blow the EVO screen out of the water". In a side by side comparison, yes, the iPhone 4 screen looks better. Independently, they're both excellent screens. If I put the EVO up to my face with a magnifying glass can I see pixels? Yes. If I hold it a normal distance from my face, can I see pixels? No. It is very crisp, and very detailed. You'd be hard pressed to be dissappointed with the EVO screen. Read Engadget's EVO iPhone 4 comparison for more details.
Num2, I'm sorry if my title is misleading. The purpose of these videos are to choronicle my experience in switching from the iPhone platform to the Android platform. Many current iPhone users are considering switching to Android, and these videos are designed to help them know what to expect. That's why I tried to stick with platform specific comparisons, not phone hardware comparisons, such as my 3yo phone not having gps, or 3g, or mms messaging. Thanks for watching my videos.
@ty2 dude in what way is the iphone 4 blowing the EVO out of the water? ill give you that the iphone has a beautiful screen and you cant take that away from it but other than that the Evo can do everything the iphone can and more. the phone is a power house just like most android phones coming out.
@ty2 the iphone 4 doesn't come close to the evo. There's some things that are the same the iphone 4's screen is better the battery is better(out the box) this is easily fixed by just buying a 1800mah battery for the evo so you keep the stock battery door. I understand the Evo may have some stuff that you may never use but it has it for someone who would where iphone doesn't like wifi hotspot option which works fantastic because I use it. Iphone just isn't the best phone anymore it used to be.
"Oh evo, how do I love thee. Let me count the ways." Okay but seriously, this phone has a ton of great features. And despite it's solitaire restrictive size, I love it. Besides, there's a cribbage app that lets me play with one hand.
My evo fits into my jeans pocket just as easily as my iPhone did. I say go to a store and try one out if you want to find out for yourself. It's size hasn't effected me yet
I'm not really sure I understand your question. Youtube HQ is believe is only an option right now on the Evo and other newer devices. As for general video viewing, rockplayerbase will play just about any video format.
I switched from Sprint to ATT to buy the iPhone 3g 2 years ago. Back then, it was choice between iPhone or Instinct. Instinct was of course a far inferior to iPhone back then lol. Now I may go back to Sprint as the newer Android phones are actually at the" iPhone levels" now( capacitive screens, web browsing, overall user experience).
Okay, please, let's keep comments civil. I do get what exesta is saying. The Evo's design is not nearly as elegant as the iPhone 4's. But durability is key. I feel like I could at least drop my Evo from 3 feet and not have it shatter all over the place. There are definitely tradeoffs to "pretty"
I turned it off just to type this. Unfortunately, it doesnt do any spell checking once its off. Notice tha lack of punctuation in my contractions. Ill keep playing with it though
It's an Android phone, so it can so long as you install it. One annoyance about the keyboard, it doesn't just autocorrect misspelled words. It'll take a perfectly spelled word and replace it with a word it thought you meant. Really annoying. But that's a problem with HTC sense keyboard, not Android. Swype probably won't have that problem.
Hard to answer considering I came from an iPhone. Evo is the only Android phone right now without a trackball or optical trackpad. I can tell you personally that navigating an iPhone or Android phone is very easy. But it IS different. You will probably have a break in period while you adjust. And typing on a touch screen will probably always annoy you. You should probably wait for the new Samsung phone coming out on sprint. It's basically an evo with a keyboard.
That's hard to say because the droidx isn't even out yet. In engadget's preview of the droidx, they seemed evenly matched. The droidx will be more or less the evo for Verizon. Or, the other white meat
man I couldn't have said that any better myself. I have an EVO and I told my cousin on Verizon's network to buy the Droid X so it can match my phone only on 3G.
Verizon just wrapped up their press conference for the Droid x.$199.99 on July 15th. The only glaring omission I saw was the lack if a webcam. Kind of a bummer, but still a good phone
@TheTechnophilia Perfect is a device that works the way it was designed, IPhone. Not a gumped up phone full of gimicks, evo, AGAIN its way to BIG! for I would feel silly pulling that thing out on a date LMAO. Btw your last post sounds like the evo is your girlfriend, chill out dude, lol
THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING, AGAIN, IPHONE 4G I'll let you have the last word...
@treypol lol.. its all personal preference... and your the one bashing someone for saying that one phone is better. I personally love my evo.. My experiences with all portable ipods/iphones werent to friendly, I want to stick with my evo, but a lot of people do like iphones too.
Oh and just a heads up to all evo people, alot of people like the iphone cause it came before the android, then android came along and started growing faster then iphone so more people use iphone.
@TheTechnophilia I cant get the EVO its way to big, seriously i would feel silly having a phone that big. Also I've watched several videos on the EVo and it is seems to be doomed by buggy functionality like all the others, im not getting fooled again. All my friends i-phones i play with are smooth as silk and rock soild very well thought out almost scarry perfect.
@TheTechnophilia for what ever reason your biased LOL, or have not researched or educated yourself on the over 100 upgrades to the new iphone LOL, EVo from what i'm hearing is a dud, a stupid big buggy device LOL. I will finally get my moneys worth with the iphone LOL, Soooo Sick of all the let downs from poorly thought out bug ridden phones in the past, LOL
@TheTechnophilia according to this video the EVO looks quite a bit bigger then the iphone. Also regarding changes didnt they put a new chip in the iphone that was made/designed by apple? I watched steve jobs and read quite a bit on both and the new iphone has a ton of changes and upgrades. To me the iphone is rock soild in all areas compared to ALL other smart phones i've had.
Steve Jobs is a master of hype. But yes, the A4 chip is a pretty impressive chip. But the snapdragon is no slouch either. I would say the iPhone and Evo are pretty evenly matched. At that point it comes down to OS choice, and carrier choice. Engadget did a comparison between the two that was pretty good. But in the end, hardware wise, it's hard to say one is better than the other.
I'm in the market for a new phone leaning towards the i-phone 4g to the Evo the the stats on both look great, main reason after seeing this video is size, can you fit the Evo in your pocket? i'm sure you can squeeze it in but it seems it would be uncomforitable, the thing looks extra HUGE. Also what does it matter to me if the phone is open source or not? how does that effect the phone? have no idea.
It might be big, but it is very thin. It slips into a pocket with no problem. I recommend going to a store to see one for yourself. As for open source, the fact that it's open source will effect very few people. It removes the restrictions from the type of apps it can run(such as the emulators I mention). The average user probably wont' notice much.
@reiththestud thanks, I watched this comparison (would like to show you but cant copy and past the link) it looks like the evo may be buggy, just like every non iphone i have had in the past, i'm so sick of the lack of thought put into non iphones, functionality, all around quality in iphones seem superior in a major way. the battery life is better its maded of glass and steel not scratch prone plastic
Apple's closed system produces some really impressive products. The iPhone 4 is definitely no exception and I imagine most people will be very satisfied with it. The Evo is definitely NOT for everyone. I say give both a good shake in store and see which fits you best. FYI, the Droid Incredible runs MUCH smoother than the Evo. HTC has some work to do with making the Evo run smoother.
I don't like not having access to the file system. iPhone has up to 32gb of memory, why can't I use it like a flash drive?!? I also had horrible service wiht AT&T. I really liked them as Cingular, not AT&T. App store restrictions bothered me. Like not being able to get console emulators. And iHATE iTunes.
I have a lot of issues with Apple as a company, but that's secondary in regards to the phone restrictions that bother me.
@Jamhero20 .....i can deal with a slight difference in battery life if my phone is KILLING the competition(Evo > iphone4)....what networkability are u referring to???...1st of all...i dont need a wifi connection to use my video chat like u do with ur iphone4...2nd of all...i have 4g!...thatz enough rite there...and 3rd...the Android is waaaaay more customizable than the IOS interface...jailbroken iphone or not...actually...both the Evo AND the Epic are smashing the iphone4...scared to admit it?
omg look at the difference in the screens! I was debating between these two and you just sold me. I don't honestly want a "retina display" where the pixels are too small to see, I'd prefer bigger screen! Also I have bigger fingers so the bigger screen would help. I'll attempt an analogy... best looking wii game on 30 inch screen or best looking ps3 game on 20 inch screen... would probably play the bigger one.
Also that background is amazing and it'd be nice to not deal with apples restrictions.
Doubletwist keeps freezing on me. On a side note, I think the phone is better for being bigger. I can still use it in one hand, but I find that it may stop you from dropping it if you have to hold it better or with two hands.
i have 2 iphones and been a iphone user sense 2007. I am now no longer a iphone user now that the htc evo has came out. I love my evo , way better then my iphone apple and At&t are to limited. Sprint is way better in my area.
isyncr from android market lets you use itunes with your android phone. so for those of you who like to use itunes and have an adroid phone it is wayyy better than doubletwist.
The brand is "Platinum" and it was being sold at the Best Buy where I got my phone. I don't really care for cases, but after my cracked iphone, I figured it would be a good idea. I actually saw these cases advertised in BB's Sunday ad. It doesn't add much bulk to the phone.
I use DVD decrypter to rip the dvd to my hard drive, and then I use handbrake the convert it to the proper format. If you google dvd decrypter guide or handbrake guide, you will get some good info. Also, if you're using a 32bit version of windows, you can use dvd43 to decrypt the dvd's on the fly. This allows you to use handbrake to rip and encode the videos directly from the disc without needing to use dvd decrypter to rip it to your computer first.
good vid, i also hate itunes. looking forward to testing this phone next month. i live in a 4g area so if it works out, i will be switching from an iphone.
It's not flawed because I already stated it's my impressions of the Evo from my perspective as an iPhone user. It's about overall experience, not a feature by feature comparison. If you want to see a comparison of this and the new(unreleased) iPhone, I'm sure someone will do it once it comes out. This video primarily for current iPhone users who are considering switching. I'm hoping that posting my impressions will help people out.
I've only had it a couple days and have had it almost constantly plugged in. I think this next week will be a good gauge since I'll be taking it to work.
i lovee the evo is the bestt!!! i wuldnt change it for nothing!!

The evo is far from perfect. As is the iPhone 4 . But the evo is way more perfect for me than the iPhone. Couldn't be happier with my choice.
reiththestud 1 year ago
@TheTechnophilia Perfect is a device that works the way it was designed, IPhone. Not a gumped up phone full of gimicks, evo, AGAIN its way to BIG! for I would feel silly pulling that thing out on a date LMAO. Btw your last post sounds like the evo is your girlfriend, chill out dude, lol
THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING, AGAIN, IPHONE 4G I'll let you have the last word...
treypol 1 year ago
@treypol lol.. its all personal preference... and your the one bashing someone for saying that one phone is better. I personally love my evo.. My experiences with all portable ipods/iphones werent to friendly, I want to stick with my evo, but a lot of people do like iphones too.
Oh and just a heads up to all evo people, alot of people like the iphone cause it came before the android, then android came along and started growing faster then iphone so more people use iphone.

@KHallesy lol why are we writing big paragraphs.
KHallesy 1 year ago
@TheTechnophilia I cant get the EVO its way to big, seriously i would feel silly having a phone that big. Also I've watched several videos on the EVo and it is seems to be doomed by buggy functionality like all the others, im not getting fooled again. All my friends i-phones i play with are smooth as silk and rock soild very well thought out almost scarry perfect.
treypol 1 year ago
@TheTechnophilia for what ever reason your biased LOL, or have not researched or educated yourself on the over 100 upgrades to the new iphone LOL, EVo from what i'm hearing is a dud, a stupid big buggy device LOL. I will finally get my moneys worth with the iphone LOL, Soooo Sick of all the let downs from poorly thought out bug ridden phones in the past, LOL
treypol 1 year ago
@TheTechnophilia according to this video the EVO looks quite a bit bigger then the iphone. Also regarding changes didnt they put a new chip in the iphone that was made/designed by apple? I watched steve jobs and read quite a bit on both and the new iphone has a ton of changes and upgrades. To me the iphone is rock soild in all areas compared to ALL other smart phones i've had.
treypol 1 year ago
@treypol

It's like bring a GPS~EVO 4G is huge~~~
msazone 1 year ago
I'm in the market for a new phone leaning towards the i-phone 4g to the Evo the the stats on both look great, main reason after seeing this video is size, can you fit the Evo in your pocket? i'm sure you can squeeze it in but it seems it would be uncomforitable, the thing looks extra HUGE. Also what does it matter to me if the phone is open source or not? how does that effect the phone? have no idea.
treypol 1 year ago
@treypol
It might be big, but it is very thin. It slips into a pocket with no problem. I recommend going to a store to see one for yourself. As for open source, the fact that it's open source will effect very few people. It removes the restrictions from the type of apps it can run(such as the emulators I mention). The average user probably wont' notice much.
reiththestud 1 year ago
@reiththestud thanks, I watched this comparison (would like to show you but cant copy and past the link) it looks like the evo may be buggy, just like every non iphone i have had in the past, i'm so sick of the lack of thought put into non iphones, functionality, all around quality in iphones seem superior in a major way. the battery life is better its maded of glass and steel not scratch prone plastic
treypol 1 year ago
@treypol

What resrictions did u not like? Im thinking about going to at&t and would like to find out all i can before I do.
ICON7T6 1 year ago
@ICON7T6

@reiththestud its called Updates!!!! and jailbreak!!!!
Jamhero20 1 year ago
@Jamhero20 .....i can deal with a slight difference in battery life if my phone is KILLING the competition(Evo > iphone4)....what networkability are u referring to???...1st of all...i dont need a wifi connection to use my video chat like u do with ur iphone4...2nd of all...i have 4g!...thatz enough rite there...and 3rd...the Android is waaaaay more customizable than the IOS interface...jailbroken iphone or not...actually...both the Evo AND the Epic are smashing the iphone4...scared to admit it?
stlallstar 1 year ago
omg look at the difference in the screens!

@ostmarkz
The brand is "Platinum" and it was being sold at the Best Buy where I got my phone. I don't really care for cases, but after my cracked iphone, I figured it would be a good idea. I actually saw these cases advertised in BB's Sunday ad. It doesn't add much bulk to the phone.

Well maybe ur hands are too small to be using the BIG BOI EVO.... but the size is one of its best fts...

No. I ordered Ghost Armor on Thursday. I'll install it when it gets here. Maybe I'll do a video for that too.
reiththestud 1 year ago
how do you get movies into the evo.?
elferras1107 1 year ago
@elferras1107
This allows you to use handbrake to rip and encode the videos directly from the disc without needing to use dvd decrypter to rip it to your computer first.
reiththestud 1 year ago
@reiththestud What format does it use? Will it play mp4's or avi's?
sukoshineko 1 year ago
@sukoshineko
No AVI's(Divx). It plays H.264 and MPEG4. It might play others but I'm not sure. I use Handbrake to convert the videos to H.264

good vid, i also hate itunes. looking forward to testing this phone next month. i live in a 4g area so if it works out, i will be switching from an iphone.
jerko666 1 year ago
This comparison is flawed, a fair comparison would be when the new iphone comes out....
juventus1384 1 year ago
@juventus1384
