  • I think I could take a deer with my knife

  • Dave do you flag your snares so you can find them easy?

  • why use snares which only have a 1 and 9 chance in capturing game when a modern day box trap has a 9 and 10 chance of trapping an animal, learn to make modern day box traps using natural materials.

  • @onthecuttingedge2005 Cause you can carry 50 snares in your pocket thats why. Weight vs Rate brother

  • I could not see where or how he tied the snare off.

  • hey where did you that shoulder thing you took off earlier in the video

  • I never learned any of this from my father or grandfather. But I did have a sort of adopted father figure. he was in vietnam, im 23 (turned jan 26th) and he told me about eating bugs, birds, rabbits, anything you normally wouldnt eat because its "gross" or "cute" any reason to avoid eating it, he tells me "Better fed than dead"

  • i heard truck exhaust brakes in the background

  • What and how do you secure the snare wire to in order to keep the animal from running off with it?

  • In the UK, you can get some decent picture wire from ASDA. It's £1.50 for a few metres. I bought some and made some very decent snares that will last for years.

  • Great great video Dave love your show to!

  • Awesome stuff!

  • Yes this is dave from dual survival!!!!!!!

  • is this the dave from dual survival

  • What pack is that?

  • taking out a larger snared animal should be pretty safe if you use something like a makeshift spear (8 foot long sharpened stick). you could probably take out a hog that way without a too big risk of injury to yourself. or you could find some big rocks or sticks and throw them at the animal until it's dead. yeah it would be very messy, but if you're in a survival situation, that's not a time to be squeamish.

  • Hey Dave, Thought I'd share what my hunting buddies and I carry for this purpose. We usually carry, besides 550 cord, Spiderwire in heavy weight to make emergency snares. I've also used piano wire, of course in proper size, and used guitar strings (although these are short for this purpose, they will work if you have to. You can even find them in black). I work in the entertainment world, so these are readily available and usually for free. Talk to your friendly neighborhood piano tuner.

  • lol what about a deer with a knife spear???? might work lol still wouldnt do it though what website are we able to buy some of the items you use.. i lvoe these videos and your thinking and the pathfinder way

  • will the braided wire work for rabbits and squirres aswell. Also will a hardware store have the green wire.

  • Follow me is trademark of the USAR Infantry ! but good work.

  • That snare looks purty lame

  • hey what about braded fishing line... got 1 of the rolls i got is ment to be like 35ish pound....

  • @liightheaded you can use it but i would wacht how to set a lasoo trap . in fact me and my buddy have traped 23 rabbits and 12 squirrles in one season with green 40 pound braded line !!!!!!!!!! ps you may want a 50 poud braded !

  • what is a CRP field ?what does CRP stand for?

  • Conservation Reserve Program (CRP)

  • what kinda gun are you carying in this video dave?

  • H&R 12 GA

  • smooth bore or the rifled ones

  • @wildernessoutfitters Dave can u send a email to me on were to get snare wire at adamtrackboy1@aol.com i love survival i just dont know supplies to get and were to get from

  • @wildernessoutfitters yep h and r pardner i have the 410 version

  • Crap i bought some 12 gague wire i think its way to strong it doesent bend enough.

  • If I'm brought before a judge for trapping, and my belly's full. I have survived and that is success. Thanks Dave for the information.

  • i have a tip for snares for anyone, if you cant get any snare wire go to your music shop and ask for a high e eletric guitar string, they have a small loop on them perfect for the snare motion, they only cost around £1.20 - $2

  • or ask a guitar player for take offs free! The B string oughtta work too.

  • snares are only leagal during trapping season with a license. but if you are stranded and have to survive I think DNR would understand Good Vids

  • yes snares are legal,

but its only human to check your snares 2 times a day so an animal dose not suffer.

also guitar string makes great snare.

  • l have 75 pound wire

  • are snares even legal to use?

  • I'm pretty sure they are considered poaching. (which is illegal) but you can obviously use them in a survival situation.

  • I'm in the UK and the only type of snare that IS legal to use (with the land owners consent) is the simple one that Dave shows in this video. No mangle or dangle or spring loaded type one are allowed in the UK. But if you where trapping rabbit or squirrel (grey not red) the landowner would most likely be quite happy.

Keep up the good work Dave, your a star :-)

  • I spoke to my sister-in-law, she's a licensed trapper and they are only legal when trapping beaver under water here in Maine. But Thanks.=)

  • depends on the state, some its completely illegal, some the locking attachments are illegal. and in others you can but have to be licensed, just check with your hunting and gaming board

  • I asked a game warden I know and it is illegal here In Maine except underwater when trappping beaver.

  • Dave, when trapping with the snare wire; instead of wrapping the wire all the way up. Leave the last bit of wrap and take it down to the loop. Let it be exposed; what it does is grip the varmint's hair and has a more catch ratio

  • i accidentally killed a deer in my coyote snare last season/year. i guess it was feeding low to the ground. pretty sad. i wish i had seen your video before i set it.

  • Actually had a deer close enogh to trust a spear in last bow season, I think it would be effective for that as long as you can get that close to a deer.

  • Great vid! you should cover dressing down your prey after you've caught it. easy and safe ways to prepare game for consumption in a survival situation.

  • I like how the shirt your wearing is "low key" camouflage. You don't look like you are a Rambo wannabe but it certainly does the job.

I try to do the same thing as often as I can.

Think out aloud here but perhaps you could do a video on appropriate survival clothing? It's not something that is covered by survival blogs but I think that more people will come a cropper from exposure than be eaten by mutant zombie bikers.

  • Great vid...snares made easy!

  • what animals can you catch with a snare?

  • anything from squirrel to deer if you have the right type of snare material

  • hey Im new to trapping but it looks fun I would love to taste the different varity of meats.

  • I can say from personal experience that a deer can be snared and will strangle it self if a proper snare is used. We took a 165lbs doe this winter while honing our survival skills.

  • hey you should make a vido on the guns you carry in the bush thanks

  • i dont think he uses guns...

  • he doesnt he points his finger at an object and says bang and some how that object will have a hole in it

  • I lol'd. But yeah, he uses a bow for the most part.

  • Aren't you thinking about Chuck Norris?

    ;-P

  • @farkinmunkeepoop liquid snake? lol

  • hey bud,, how ya doin? hope all is good in your area! great vids as always

  • haha your so funny.

"dear is not gonna hang himself" lol

I almost feel off the chair when you mentioned 1 on 1 combat with a dear

  • great vid , its really easy to understand what you were saying and how you showed what to do . :)

  • great video man

  • WOA-Dave! Great Series - yes more more more... you probably get tired of hearing that... always always waiting for teacher to speak and you speak volumes... thanks so much...

  • how do you set one of those snares were it hangs them up in a tree by their leg?

  • Take a stick about 1'' thick with a bit of length tie it to a Standing Tree, but make sure the Top half of the stick isn't tied down, then flex it downwards, set a snare and hold it down with a peg, (the peg being attached before the loop) What this will do is as soon as game starts tugging on the snare, the peg will release and the stick will whip it right up in the air.

You might want to make sure this is legal in your area first.

  • Awesome vid!!

  • Good stuff Dave

  • Dude, i have been waiting for this...

    Great videos Dave.

  • Any infromation on the Wool shirt you are wearing. Will you be selling these on your site?

  • Still trying to contract them I have found a source recently for Dark Green but they are backordered on LG and XL.

  • btw good video Dave been waitin forever for a new vid of yours to come out!

  • Not to get off subject here but i'm sharpening a knife as i watch this i'm really not gettin the blade any sharper infact i think i dulled it more can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong? pressing to hard or wrong angle? ps using a sharpening stone. thanks -Jonny

  • most likely its the angle

or remember to grind the knife in the opposite

way the blade it faceing, you dont have to do it like that..it just works better that way

  • Alright i'll give that a try thanks man. ;)

  • great vid :D

u cant even see thst snare its perfect the rabbit or whatever wont see whats coming

  • don't forget to mention keeping the human cent to a minimum. That will also bring your odds up. find fresh deer or rabbit poo to rub your hands in before handling the trap. also some rabbit poo along the trail will help

  • Patience my man, See Part 3

  • very cool, do you worry about covering your scent? Looking forward to the next videos. I noticed there isnt snow out there yet. Its coming down good here in seattle.

  • Part 3 Bro

  • allthough i dont like traping for sport its good to no if and when i need it

  • wheres part 2?

  • Great video thank you!

  • Great info as usual Dave. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
