  • and on a second thought...this was about (or more than) a decade away before the Australian actor Hugh Jackman was chosen to play him on the big screen. Mind = Blown.

  • can you imagine him saying "aboot" in that accent? i'd think i'd die.

    XD

  • Haven't you people every heard of Australian Canadian!?! Geesh.

  • Is this why Hugh Jackman got the part?

  • I think I know why Wolvie is Australian. it's only just now occured to me after 20 years. There's a scene where Wolverine addresses Pyro as "Dingo," referring to the fact that PYRO is an Aussie. The voice actor must have read the script and misinterpreted the "dingo" line. he then chose to read the character as Australian because of it.

This makes perfect sense to me. What a disaster. Someone should have told him.

  • The title of this video should be "Wolverine is inexplicably Australian". lol

But hey, Hugh Jackman plays him, and he's Australian... so that's something.

  • I'm just glad they got colossus russian accent right <3 he and kitty are my favorite and kurt too

  • When I see this, I can't help but think of that Super Hero Squad Show episode "Too Many Wolverines," with one of them being of Australian Descent. Remember this:

"I'm the best there is at what I do! And what I do can't be imitated, copied, cloned, or used without the express written permission from the Super Hero Squad and Marvel Entertainment, LLC. Batteries not included, All rights reserved, Terms, Conditions, and Restrictions apply! We clear, bub?"

  • ....I dont know what the hell anybody said. I couldn't hear any of it. But Wolverine IS a badass, so I'm liking this anyway.

  • A lot of people don't seem to realize that wolverine was never badass in any of the cartoons. Even in the must popular of the X-man cartoons he got own pretty often like in episode one by jubilee. Wolverine became popular in the games where he was the only character that his energy auto recover and finally the movies gave him his real "badass look"

  • @zune0101 No, Wolverine got Badass because of the comic books. he's indestructible, has better than normal animal senses (like 20x better than human or more), and he regenerates. So--

    you can't kill him.

if you almost kill him, he comes back.

    then he FINDS YOU.

thats why he's badass. he's the Marvel version of Batman, in a much deeper sense than Tony Stark is. Iron Mans just a rich douche bag. Wolverine out-lied the DEVIL in Infinity Gauntlet. he scares EVERYONE. thats why he's "Marvel's Bats"

  • @DarthRaukrist I really have to disagree with that, i had follow the marvel comic since ever and to be honest with you he was never that special. In fact people are only recognizing him as a lone wolf after the movies(i'm referring to those who never read the comic) Before of that you whenever you heard of X-men you though team work. He was never indestructible, he found himself outclassed by magneto in countless times. The comic only took on his character after his popularity rose.

  • @DarthRaukrist Actually Marvel's Batman if anyone is Daredevil. Wolverine kills people, he has uncontrollable animal rage and rarely thinks through a problem to solve it. Daredevil uses his brain and like batman is not invincible. Daredevil prowls the rooftops at night, is a master of martial arts, primarily fights crime bosses and street level criminals, is portrayed as a dark and intimidating presence, and his father was killed by a criminal. All like Batman.

  • @bloodyright77 REPUTATION people, THINK about it for a bit-- though it might not be the 'most accurate' reading of the characters, the facts stand that looking at the opinion of the internet, most forums ascribe nearly infinite allaround badassness to Batman and Wolverine- Batman is scary because 20 years ago he decided to learn how to plan 10 years in advance, so 5 years ago he was ready for what you're going to do 5 years from now. Wolverine is scary because a cockroach is easier to kill.

  • @DarthRaukrist The common points are they're both indescribably badass. check 'Batman Green Lantern' or 'Wolverine Dark Pheonix' to prove my point- both are fusions of 'phenomenal cosmic power' coupled with someone who actually knows how to use it. They're just plain SCARY

Also, the Amalgam Comics recognized this- they paired them together to make DARK CLAW- who is without a doubt the last person you ever want to meet, under any circumstance. People don't KNOW to be afraid of Daredevil like that

  • @DarthRaukrist I still disagree. Yes, we all know Wolverine is a badass. He's a trained assassin, and he's practically indestructible. But just because a hero is a badass doesn't make him the most like Batman.Calling Wolverine Marvel's Batman is wholly inaccurate. Batman is a detective uses his brain the most out of any hero. Wolverine has a rage that he has to try to suppress. He's more likely to rush into a situation while batman is a thinker.

  • @bloodyright77 Your analogy works is if you look at it from the perspective of someone who only watches the movies and doesn't know much about the characters. The type of person who probably only knows the most popular characters (batman, superman, wonderwoman, wolverine, captain america, spiderman). Yes in the broad sense wolverine is the marvel's batman in the same sense that captain america is marvel's superman. The characters have very little in common other than than there personalities.

  • @bloodyright77 So, yes I agree with u in the broad sense when comparing only the few most popular characters of DC and marvel. Wolverine and Batman are both anti-heroes who don't mind being perceived as the bad guy if it is for the common good. Just like how Superman and Captain America are symbols of hope, people look to them in admiration, and have that kind of boyscout persona.

  • Wait you know what's ionic.. Hugh Jackman is austrailian haha so he's playing a candian, yet in this pilot for the 80's x-men.. the character is...australian. Coincidence haha

  • Making Movies, Making Songs and Fighting Round the World!

Take a listen the resemblance is uncanny.

  • Wait, i was listening to "America! Fuck yeah!"... How the hell did i get here?

  • RRRRR, QUEEFS!

  • The reason Wolverine has an Australian accent is that he calls Toad "dingo" (a line originally meant to be directed derisively at Pyro). Given how they messed up the script, I can't blame anyone for concluding that the character must be an Australian with very stereotyped slang.

And for all the comments helpfully pointing out that Wolverine is Canadian, where is all your rightous indignation over the fact that Wolverine has NEVER been cast with a Canadian accent?

  • Comment removed

  • ironic that an australian (Hugh Jackman) ended up portraying him in the movies

  • is there an animated series for this?? plz reply thanks

  • @l3ankai001 No, this didn't get picked up for obvious reasons. They tried to make a cartoon again in '92 that was successful (X-Men: The Animated Series) and lasted a while.

  • @Goribus The Australian Accent was laughable for Wolverine. It made his character seem like a complete joke. You're probably one of the only people who actually likes it so you're definitely not in the majority here. So much so that they canceled this horrible X-Men abomination and made the far more successful other animated series that ran for a very long time.

  • Wolverine is a Canadian, but still has a Australian Accent, and his kin is Sabertooth. Get it right okay

  • What's ironic is that Wolvie ends up being Kitty's mentor in the main comic timeline. XP

  • I have this vhs. lol

  • Wow. Nothing but hardcore nerds and underage faggots in this video's replies. Wolverine's accent was awesome for this show. No one cares that it was an Australian accent. Instead we focused on "holy shit it's the X-Men in their first ever cartoon!" Also the animation quality and voice acting were top notch, and so far not one of Wolverine's voice actor's (or Jackman) has done a Canadian accent. Watch Pryde of the X-Men. It's fucking good. That's all that matters. Not nerd rage over accents.

  • Wow, Wolverine having an Australian accent and at 0:43 attempting to sharpen indestructible metal... this cartoon has some flaws... Lol

  • That's not a knife! THIS...is a knife.

  • time 2 hit yall wit a lil virgin nerd knowlage.. according to stan lee wolverine was originally supposed to be an austrailian young man but the artist on the first xmen comics had already peniciled him as a older hairy man so they re-did his whole orgin

  • @bigwill32211

Word. See wolverine's aren't native to Canada. They're native to Austrailia and New Zealand. One minor correction though. It wasn't the artist that got Wolverine changed from Australian to Canadian. It was the writer John Bryne. And it was because he was a Canadian and wanted to write a Canadian character. Eventually he got to do a whole team of them in Alpha Flight.

  • He' a Canadian Down Under.

  • X-men, Welcome To Die!!!

  • no offence but this voice fails hard. His Wolverine VS Hulk i think should be his definitive voice.

  • who in the hell made this garbage? A lame scottish accent? Jesus!

  • lmao!!! XD damn wolverine cant quite get his heritage straight

  • Call Dodd is the true voice of Wolverine not this douche

  • He sounds Scottish.

    lrn2accent

  • Last time I checked Australian n Scottish sound nothing alike.

  • 0:19

Wolverine have little head....and big muscular..........

  • wolverines scotish

  • You're a fucking idiot get your facts straight before you type something retarded like that

  • calm down, nerd.

  • Yes, I remember that the 1st Wolverine was Australian!

  • Somewhere, Hugh Jackman is applauding.

  • ok thats just weird

  • i love it!

  • wait wolverine is Canadian though!

  • LOLOLOL

  • Yes.......because Wolverine is really australian................The intro is freaking horrible too. X-MEEEEN, X-MEEEEN, SAVING THE DAY!!

  • Wolverine isnt australian hes canadian, but hugh jackman is australian in real life.

  • the dudes who made this saw 10 or so years into the future lol hugh does a brill wolvie

  • I know he's canadian, I was being sarcastic

  • they shouldn't hav made wolverine australian, or scottish, or wherever the accent came from. it sounds bad.

  • Dear Lord, Wolverine..."Eh, she's not joining the X-men is she? She's just a Gill!"

  • If only X-Men TAS had kept the animation from thjs, and of course kept Cal Dodd

  • ******Complete 1990s X-Men Animates Series will finally be available on DVD. Volume 1 and 2 will be available April, 2009 through Disney Home Video.*******

  • ...........................*shivers*

  • I guess that's how they thought canadians sounded in the 80's

  • ...Wolverine's voice is horrid. XD

  • OMG i used to have this episode on tape. What is the name of this episode and what version is it?

And if u think Wolverines voice was funny you should hear the Intro to this Show! it goes something like

"X-Meeeen.... X-Meeen... , Save the day.... Save the day.... X-Meeen.... Onnn Their Way!" Ive looked and looked for this online but so far no luck finding it.

  • Why? WHYYYY??

    That voice is just HORRID.

  • Dont like the accent at all

  • Wolverine's accent seems ok.

  • And to think Wolverine's VA would end up doing Colonel Volgin...

  • O_o Which cartoon series is this? I've never seen this version of things before... especially not Wolverine's accent.

  • Damn...that accent still gets on my nerves even after all this time...

    Marvel...WHY?

  • Wolverine with an Australian accent = Fail!

  • yeah it sucks

  • Wolverine's creation was a gift to Marvel's Canadian readers.

  • this is so corny. I mean... Wolverine sounds like an Australian. I dunno if anybody told the people who did this... but he's Canadian. about the only person worth a damn from Canada, too.

  • Dang, Storm is hot.

  • You must like chocolate...lol ! =P

  • Haha. Apparently, I do.

  • Dazzler's nice, too. In a real '80s way.

  • Haha!!!

    you're funny!=D

  • what did he say at the beggining? Nerd teet? o.o

  • GRRRRR! KIDS!

  • lol im not a kid XD but i did sound like it im sorry lol

  • OH lol sorry i misunderstood XD yea Grrr kids but i heard it first and was like wha..and im not pokeing fun at wolv his awesome but whats with the accent?...i thought he was german casue he was in WW2 wasnt he?

  • Wolverine was Canadian. But for some reason he has what appears to be an Australian accent.

  • he was originally intended to be australian. if you read his early appearances in xmen he says mate a few times to hint towards it.

  • Always Loved this outfit better than the tiger strips.

  • Well, that's some strange canadian accent

  • Actually, it's Australian. If you watch the rest of "Pryde of the X-Men" you'll realize THIS Wolverine is clearly an Aussie (he calls Pyro a "Dingo") .The reason Wolverine is Australian is because in the X-Men's first appearance on "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" the voice actor who played Wolverine did so with an Australian accent. Marvel decided to keep it for "Pryde of the X-Men" because kids who would have seen him in the former might have been confused as to why his voice changed.

  • What is with Wolverine's voice?

  • The reason Wolverine has an Australian accent is because in the X-Men's first appearance on "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" the voice actor who played Wolverine did so with an Australian accent. Marvel decided to keep it for the next televison incarntion of Wolverine in "Pryde of the X-Men" because fans who would have seen the "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends" episode might have been confused as to why his voice changed. So, in other words- if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Dumb idea :)

  • this is anime???

  • Depite the fact that this is done by a Japanese animation company it is not considered Anime. The 80s are known for their high quality animation and the comapny who did this did "Transformers". This is American produced not Japanese- thus it is not considered Anime :)

  • lol being animated in japan doesnt automatically make it an anime. Most american cartoons export their storyboards and stuff to other countries to be animated.

  • Sadly, I still do have this one vhs, in addition to the 1992 series' episodes Night of the Sentinels and The Unstoppable Juggernaut

  • Logan Van Dyke...

  • The infamously bad, and completely inaccurate, but now completely ironic(jackman) australian accent wolverine.

  • the pride of the x-men. I had this on tape when i was younger me and my brother loved it lol. I loved the bit when the blob goes "NO POWER ON EARTH CAN MOVE THE BLOB" dont kno why lol

  • I am so glad this show didn't get picked up!!!! had it been picked up, we wouldn't have gotten the superior 90's series..

  • actually hes was born in britain and moved to canada when he was younger

  • no actually he really was born in Canada Alberta City Loughlin City and near Alkalie lake witch was a real place for wolverine comics i first thought they made the place up but they didnt it was revealed in a Deadpool comic that came out befor the movie witch i have where it says all of this

  • yeah...almost all marvel comics were created in canada AND including superman (although he's not marvel)

  • Wolverine is a real man, he doesn't listen to Celine Dion he listens to Rush.

  • thers a fucking british xmen?

  • Nightcrawler was the best in this cartoon. It's really a shame that the movie and the later cartoon series never gave him the justice this cartoon did. His voice an overall appearance were dead on.

  • Wolverine's voice is a little you know X( bad

  • james howlett aka wolverine is a canadian you dumbass

  • wow, you're a nerd.

  • @bertongbangis The dumbass is you considering this was from the 80's cartoon..

  • wtf..wolverine is mexican everyone knows that... he was trying to cross a border got caught and they put claws in em end o story.

  • LMAO, True, So true ...!!

  • ROFLMFAO!

  • wolverine been canadian since hulk 180 when he jumped out the bushes rockin whiskers

  • yeah...and curling and drinking moosehead lager and being really really into Celine Dion.

  • I think my brain just exploded.

  • Heh...Crocodile Wolvie.

  • HI, ROB.

    I'M ROB.

    SINCERELY,

    ROB

  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009)

    This movie will come soon.

    And: X-Men Origins: Magneto (2009)

  • Why does Wolvie sound British?

  • Wolverine is suppose to be Australian.

  • WTF?!? Do people not know he's Canadian?

  • Not back then. They made him Australian. Canadians are less marketable.

  • you stupid fuckup. AUSTRALIAN!?

  • lol yea its hilarious...he's canadian dude

  • I so remember this. Though, for some reason I remember Wolverine's voice being really stupid in this. I guess it's because whoever the hell this guy was was no Cathal J. Dodd (the Fox cartoon Wolverine voice).

  • dayum i never seen this x-men version.

  • wolverine is an ass hole

  • Wolverine would be a badass samurai-master of all assassin!

  • Wolverine an australian??? Kangaroo, mate.

  • Wolverine is Canadian, not Australian. What the hell were these guys thinking?

  • because he had already been established Australian in Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends.

  • Wolverine is strangely British...was this one of those times when he lost his memory?

  • He's Australian.

And the reason is because he had already been established Australian in Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends.

  • This is called "Pryde of the X Men". My uncle Mikey told me about it.

  • WHER THE HELL DID YOU FIND THIS?!?!?!?! It has Nightcrawler in it (unlike the TAS(which was stupid)) and has sparked my intrest. TELL ME!!!!

  • What show was this ? :X

  • this was supposed to be a late 80's show, i think from the same animation team that did spiderman and the hulk series, only this piolit was produced, i gues abc decided to pass on it, and the series never really began, too bad looked like it had a good cast of characters, includung dazzler one of my faovite x women...

  • wolvey sounds gay

  • My speakers exploded.

  • yeah, I'm sorry. the original is like that too, and I always forget when I watch it.

  • scared the pee outta me

  • Colossus is such a pervert!

  • that don't make her an Xman..not yet

  • how funny is it that they had wolvie with an Australian accent and the man that brought him to life IS Australian

  • "...but it's not oatmeal!" oh wait that's scottish

  • I love his "growling". I always thought that was hilarious as a kid.

  • GrrrrrRRRRRR KEEEDS!

  • why does wolverine have a british/australina accent

  • I know right. I still got this tape at the house.

  • its supposed to be a Canadian accent.......thats where Wolvie is from

  • i belive that's supposed to be an austrialan accent, when aussies where popular, back in the late 80's

  • that would seem kind of weird for them to make his accent australian since he is from canada......why would anyone approve that......canadian it is

  • SHE'S NOT AN X-MAN

  • not yet

  • YES she IS kid. She's been one since the 80's
