and on a second thought...this was about (or more than) a decade away before the Australian actor Hugh Jackman was chosen to play him on the big screen. Mind = Blown.
I think I know why Wolvie is Australian. it's only just now occured to me after 20 years. There's a scene where Wolverine addresses Pyro as "Dingo," referring to the fact that PYRO is an Aussie. The voice actor must have read the script and misinterpreted the "dingo" line. he then chose to read the character as Australian because of it.
This makes perfect sense to me. What a disaster. Someone should have told him.
When I see this, I can't help but think of that Super Hero Squad Show episode "Too Many Wolverines," with one of them being of Australian Descent. Remember this:
"I'm the best there is at what I do! And what I do can't be imitated, copied, cloned, or used without the express written permission from the Super Hero Squad and Marvel Entertainment, LLC. Batteries not included, All rights reserved, Terms, Conditions, and Restrictions apply! We clear, bub?"
A lot of people don't seem to realize that wolverine was never badass in any of the cartoons. Even in the must popular of the X-man cartoons he got own pretty often like in episode one by jubilee. Wolverine became popular in the games where he was the only character that his energy auto recover and finally the movies gave him his real "badass look"
@zune0101 No, Wolverine got Badass because of the comic books. he's indestructible, has better than normal animal senses (like 20x better than human or more), and he regenerates. So--
you can't kill him.
if you almost kill him, he comes back.
then he FINDS YOU.
thats why he's badass. he's the Marvel version of Batman, in a much deeper sense than Tony Stark is. Iron Mans just a rich douche bag. Wolverine out-lied the DEVIL in Infinity Gauntlet. he scares EVERYONE. thats why he's "Marvel's Bats"
@DarthRaukrist I really have to disagree with that, i had follow the marvel comic since ever and to be honest with you he was never that special. In fact people are only recognizing him as a lone wolf after the movies(i'm referring to those who never read the comic) Before of that you whenever you heard of X-men you though team work. He was never indestructible, he found himself outclassed by magneto in countless times. The comic only took on his character after his popularity rose.
@DarthRaukrist Actually Marvel's Batman if anyone is Daredevil. Wolverine kills people, he has uncontrollable animal rage and rarely thinks through a problem to solve it. Daredevil uses his brain and like batman is not invincible. Daredevil prowls the rooftops at night, is a master of martial arts, primarily fights crime bosses and street level criminals, is portrayed as a dark and intimidating presence, and his father was killed by a criminal. All like Batman.
@bloodyright77 REPUTATION people, THINK about it for a bit-- though it might not be the 'most accurate' reading of the characters, the facts stand that looking at the opinion of the internet, most forums ascribe nearly infinite allaround badassness to Batman and Wolverine- Batman is scary because 20 years ago he decided to learn how to plan 10 years in advance, so 5 years ago he was ready for what you're going to do 5 years from now. Wolverine is scary because a cockroach is easier to kill.
@DarthRaukrist The common points are they're both indescribably badass. check 'Batman Green Lantern' or 'Wolverine Dark Pheonix' to prove my point- both are fusions of 'phenomenal cosmic power' coupled with someone who actually knows how to use it. They're just plain SCARY
Also, the Amalgam Comics recognized this- they paired them together to make DARK CLAW- who is without a doubt the last person you ever want to meet, under any circumstance. People don't KNOW to be afraid of Daredevil like that
@DarthRaukrist I still disagree. Yes, we all know Wolverine is a badass. He's a trained assassin, and he's practically indestructible. But just because a hero is a badass doesn't make him the most like Batman.Calling Wolverine Marvel's Batman is wholly inaccurate. Batman is a detective uses his brain the most out of any hero. Wolverine has a rage that he has to try to suppress. He's more likely to rush into a situation while batman is a thinker.
@bloodyright77 Your analogy works is if you look at it from the perspective of someone who only watches the movies and doesn't know much about the characters. The type of person who probably only knows the most popular characters (batman, superman, wonderwoman, wolverine, captain america, spiderman). Yes in the broad sense wolverine is the marvel's batman in the same sense that captain america is marvel's superman. The characters have very little in common other than than there personalities.
@bloodyright77 So, yes I agree with u in the broad sense when comparing only the few most popular characters of DC and marvel. Wolverine and Batman are both anti-heroes who don't mind being perceived as the bad guy if it is for the common good. Just like how Superman and Captain America are symbols of hope, people look to them in admiration, and have that kind of boyscout persona.
Wait you know what's ionic.. Hugh Jackman is austrailian haha so he's playing a candian, yet in this pilot for the 80's x-men.. the character is...australian. Coincidence haha
The reason Wolverine has an Australian accent is that he calls Toad "dingo" (a line originally meant to be directed derisively at Pyro). Given how they messed up the script, I can't blame anyone for concluding that the character must be an Australian with very stereotyped slang.
And for all the comments helpfully pointing out that Wolverine is Canadian, where is all your rightous indignation over the fact that Wolverine has NEVER been cast with a Canadian accent?
@l3ankai001 No, this didn't get picked up for obvious reasons. They tried to make a cartoon again in '92 that was successful (X-Men: The Animated Series) and lasted a while.
