"Metal doesn't make people happy".....Maybe rap doesn't make people happy or Jazz.Must I go on. Myself I listen to metal mainly but I'm open to other kinds of music. I'm not going to discredit something because I don't like that kind of music. To BlackMetalWorld , I agree with you 100%.
Theneedledrop, I listened to your album review on Disma's Towards the Megalith. Yes some of what you said I do agree with. I'm an ELITE UNDERGROUND METAL HEAD both Anti-Christian Death/Black Death/Black Metal, Cannibal Corpse is death metal I just can't really do at all anymore. I think Disma their sound is NICE has that good old school haunted/EVIL feel like Old IMMOLATION, Old INCANTATION, Older MORBID ANGEL etc But not many can bring that sound and feel back...I do like that sound! \m/
@helloasswipes The guy's not a hipster. He doesn't have a messy shag and he's not wearing a knit hat that's sitting way to far back on his head. He isn't wearing a trendy thrift store getup or a shirt with an "ironic" saying. And he isn't "ironically" homosexual. Hipsters don't listen to death metal, and if they they do they never admit it. He's a nerd, that's all. A nerd with a broad taste in music. I'm guessing you've never seen a real hipster.
This album takes what Onward to Golgotha did, and adds upon it. Punk beats, finnish DM elements and Pillard sounding the best he ever has. Awesome album.
awesome review man, definitely agree on every account. subscribing! also, you should review the Caretaker - An Empty Bliss Beyond this World, or perhaps the new Haunted album if you want a metal album you can shit all over hahaha.
This album makes me want to curl up in a dark corner and contemplate the stone with fungal growth known as human life that we live on as philosophical blood oozes from the sacrificial stab wounds in the goat I stole. (in a good way)(joking, except for the corner part)
Ok, I'm with you (as is the entire metal community) on Morbid Angel's newest, but Autopsy's album was fucking great! Granted the vocals were a little... iffy in places, but they were never exactly a band who were obsessed with perfection in the first place! :P
Request: Review some true Gore/Sewage audio harness, in particular, the following two examples, make DISMA & old INCANTATION sound like Harpsichord variations : type in a youtube search: "Urinary Tract Infection From Severe Puss Clots" & also search for "Biocyst", {UxTxIxFxSxPxCx is from Arkansas & Biocyst is from the drummer of LastDaysOfHumanity (Holland), I participated on a 4-way split cassette with those two ....try thinking Disma is "gore/horror" after hearing the aforementioned.
...also, those not in the know, Craig Pillard {Disma, ex-Incantation} has an audio project {National Socialist based} entitled STURM FUHRER {not "racist", just purely anti-religious}, the Canadian Band : BLASPHEMY {which has a Black Man as a band member} has been associated with Satanic Skinhead Propaganda {in which Craig Pillard has released several STURM FUHRER tracks}. it's anti-religious & also very anti-semitic. - cheers!
@mkmoloch ... least we forget: "Methodrone" & "Womb", other audio projects of Craig P. //// also, on the subject of modern "goregrind" {hence horror, monsters, etc.} most goregrind sound the same, except for a few few, i.e.: "Urinary Tract Infection From Severe Puss Clots" {featuring Bobby Maggard of Arkansas, u.s.a.} takes audio brutality to extremes never heard befoe...
@mkmoloch also, Disciples of Mockery {also had a split CD with "Womb"}, also, "prelude to apocalypse" was first released in 1999 on CD with a red-colored jewel case {then re-released a few years after on NECROHARMONIC productions} {"Sleazy" Roy, of Necroharmonic Prod. is also the person responsible for getting Will Rahmer {now of MORTICIAN} to be the 1st vocalist for INCANTATION {before "Onward to Golgotha" was released},

FUCKING METAL!!! Who the FUCK doesn't like Metal. Im only joking i know everyone has there own preferences but that doesn't mean you have to hate on Metal. Plus at least most metal bands actually have talent unlike half the shit thats around today including Rap. Music Industry has been put to shit and the fact "artists" like Dev are being signed just makes me ask ....why? She literally just talks kind of seductively over a track.
You hit on a lot of elements that make this album really good and kudos on the positive review. However, I know that you stated it with a bit of an asterisk, but please don't use the term "cookie monster vocals;" it just comes off as being uninformed.
The death metal genre can be quite limiting, but there have been several good, and even great, releases this year.
As a big fan of filthy rotten death metal (early 90's is where it's at) I'm also interested in other genres, leaving the mind open without any judgement. This is one of my reasons to return to this channel. From Kanye West & Jay-Z to Toxic Holocaust & Disma. Respect to one of the few people on here that have a unbiased & honest opinion on music. And I really love the new Autopsy album..
so what you're saying is that you like your death metal cliched then-- maybe you're looking in at the scene from a hipster perspective, but there's much more on lyrically than just campy blood and guts.
@mikebott when i said those things, i didn't really mean lyrically. i just meant that i like my DM horrifying, shocking, and extreme. the new wave of pristine-sounding DM bands have gravitated away from that. i don't see how it's a "hipster" perspective. to be extreme was the reason bands like napalm death and morbid angel formed, wasn't it?
@theneedledrop perhaps i did jump the gun, but what i heard in the original clip reminded me too much of the argument i often hear that extreme metal could be 'rehabilitated' if it just dropped the intense subject matter, as if that's all metal does and ignoring the fact that lyrics about suffering and abjection can have philosophical heft btw, if you want some truly primitive sounding dm, check out japan's coffins
Anthony, please do a review of Shining - VII: Född förlorare, i know that you like more ambitious black metal music so when you will have time, please check it out
@Steve128967 Say's the kid who likes septic flesh...lmao If you can't recognize the attention it took to create dementia/dyslexia don't blame yourself. You obviously like your music with a theme and that's okay but don't go starting internet fights. My statement wasn't directed to you, so carry on.
@kennethsantanaguitar Septic Flesh's shit up until whatever album came out in 2008 was fantastic, however keep in mind the stuff listed on my channel hardly reflects my listening taste as it hasn't been updated in at least two years. /eyeroll
I can recognize the fact that A) almost every song sounds the same, the only two standout tracks are the first and second ones, the production sucks, and pretty much all the riffs after the first 2 are entirely mediocre. Listen to some Gorguts.
@Steve128967 Gorguts is a good band, but you're trying to compare music from over two decades ago. The technicality has evolved so much since then and it's evident in Navene's drumming and guitar skills. The production is awesome. Live cymbals and drums, toms sampled by addictive drums, lots of fills left un-quantized>podfarm DI's into Nuendo. It's a self release for gods sake. You're an idiot!
@kennethsantanaguitar Good, uuuuuh... well, Obscura is one of the best death metal albums of all time, and it doesn't matter how technical it is or isn't (though a lot of it is pretty hard, but that isn't the aim).
Also, given that you feel the need to point out superficial crap concerning the production, given that the end result is just shit, I will assume you pay attention to only aesthetics and your opinion is therefore worthless. Please say no to mediocrity.
this record is great from what I've heard of it. I tried to pick it up at the record store today but I couldn't remember what it was called. :( Great cover art, you forgot to mention.
@rsfaan91 No don't get me wrong, Im not hating on tnd. I think Anthony has a very unique style of reveiwing. However, he is on top right now, and I was meerly sugesting that he reveiw albums that hadnt been covered yet. Because he does a lot that have already been reveiwed. Just throwing in my 1/2 cent's worth of constructive feedback.
You sold me. Incantation's Upon The Throne of Apocalypse is in my top 5 favorite albums of all time, I'll be checking this out. His vocals are god-tier.
@theneedledrop Man I hate when I see witty comebacks but it's a witty comeback to a removed comment... I shall forever wonder what asshatery he was trying to pull.
Yeah you gotta love Craig Pillards vocals. Onward To Golgotha is my favorite album and Craigs voice is a large part of that. Not my favorite vocal performance on Onward, but the least gimmicky for sure. It's just an all around scary album.
While watching this review I started getting scared... but it was like in an old horror movie where they just have to look through the door. I went and listened to some Disma, and was... pleasantly surprised. It almost gets rid of all of the things that put me off metal, the vocals still didn't do a lot for me, but the music was actually pretty good. Metal as a genre still doesn't seem to really be for me but this was pretty cool.
@PrivateBuckwheat because simply they became just a commercial band, and they are not making music anymore, i mean after the first two albums... then they got famous then they throw their drummer away and lost the guitarist... and lost their real soul. *My Opinion*
@TheMsalool I respect your opinion, but our interpretations of their music are different. I honestly have barely even listened to Opeth's first two albums, but I really like their more recent work. I didn't listen to much metal when I first listened to Opeth, and their more melodic sound kind of worked as a gateway into heavier music; now I can enjoy bands like Disma. I might enjoy them more if their music was less monotonous, but I like ambient drone music so who am I to talk?
dude if that's what you like in deathmetal, PLEASE check out and review FREEVIL BURNING by Freevil. i think pretty much the only way to find it is on itunes though
While I'm not the biggest fan of metal, one thing i can say is I absolutely love the cover art on this album. Other than that, I just don't understand how this is enjoyable
lol "purist" my ass. you aren't even a real fan, you just listen for the shock value, the "irony", the production, like a guy who befriends a retard, gives him thumbs ups, builds him up with words but then when he's not paying attention looks over at his real friends and laughs mockingly. try grasping the composition for once, then we'll see if you're a true fan.
after that comment its obvious that You deserve to be 1mpaled by a GIANT ALIEN PHALLUS! let's write a song about that, I would love to hear Wormed perform it. with pounding drums that will be technically as deep dicking on your ears as that alien phallus will be physically Deep dicking your cadaver. This is u bro this is u ****gargle gargle gargle gargle*****
thank you for this review. i'm kinda like this dark dirty old rotten style of death metal. if you do like disma than check definitely Funebrarum's Sleep of Morbid Dreams and Dead Congregation's Graves of the Archangels out!
I love how passionate you are about this album. I love that feeling. When the breakdown gets super fucking intense and chills of doom slither up your spine and into your neck. Hot damn HE GAVE THIS A 9 BECAUSE IT DESERVES A F****** 9.

so how bout a metal/thrash review with a negative score, eh?
Iwastman 7 months ago
While watching this review I started getting scared... but it was like in an old horror movie where they just have to look through the door. I went and listened to some Disma, and was... pleasantly surprised. It almost gets rid of all of the things that put me off metal, the vocals still didn't do a lot for me, but the music was actually pretty good. Metal as a genre still doesn't seem to really be for me but this was pretty cool.

Metal fan here, never got into death metal as a genre though... but damn, this is POWERFUL. I mean like.... Soul ripping. Thanks for introducing!

guitars are a bit too fuzzy for me. I prefer bands with a sharper clean sound. Gojira are bringing out a new album soon i believe.

I love metal music, and your metal reviews are why I started watching your channel. Thanks for posting this one!

Anthony do you dislike Opeth? Y U no liek Opeth?
PrivateBuckwheat 7 months ago
@PrivateBuckwheat because simply they became just a commercial band, and they are not making music anymore, i mean after the first two albums... then they got famous then they throw their drummer away and lost the guitarist... and lost their real soul. *My Opinion*
TheMsalool 7 months ago
@TheMsalool I respect your opinion, but our interpretations of their music are different. I honestly have barely even listened to Opeth's first two albums, but I really like their more recent work. I didn't listen to much metal when I first listened to Opeth, and their more melodic sound kind of worked as a gateway into heavier music; now I can enjoy bands like Disma. I might enjoy them more if their music was less monotonous, but I like ambient drone music so who am I to talk?

While I'm not the biggest fan of metal, one thing i can say is I absolutely love the cover art on this album. Other than that, I just don't understand how this is enjoyable

fuck yes disma is awsome!
smg66 7 months ago
lol "purist" my ass. you aren't even a real fan, you just listen for the shock value, the "irony", the production, like a guy who befriends a retard, gives him thumbs ups, builds him up with words but then when he's not paying attention looks over at his real friends and laughs mockingly. try grasping the composition for once, then we'll see if you're a true fan.

after that comment its obvious that You deserve to be 1mpaled by a GIANT ALIEN PHALLUS! let's write a song about that, I would love to hear Wormed perform it. with pounding drums that will be technically as deep dicking on your ears as that alien phallus will be physically Deep dicking your cadaver. This is u bro this is u ****gargle gargle gargle gargle*****
