  • Weight plates are weighted differently In Europe plus rugby is a game of endurance and good strength. They don't need to bench 500 pounds to be top shit. All they need is the balls to pop someone in the mouth and lay them out. I play football and Rugby. Football players are stronger but lack endurance. If Rey Lewis played a game of rugby against alesana tuilogi. Tuilogi would dominate because his body is endurance trained.

  • jesus christ, with that grunt at 2:07 there's no way those dumbells are coming back down!

  • Comment removed

  • I actually thought they'd do a heavier bench press that that...I am just a an old hack in my 40s and i do close to that weight.

  • nice end allblacks but the vid had a bunch of white dudes....

  • @7thjoker allblacks doesnt refer to the colour of there skin.......lol

  • @7thjoker it's the name of the NZ rugby national team

  • everybody hardworkin' and...the hell Ice's doin??LOL

  • You know, Im reading some of these comments putting down American football vs rugby and it just makes most of you look really stupid.

  • I would be embarrassed to put this on the internet

  • How many kgs they lifting?

  • thorn is a monster!!

  • dude with the blue shirt has terrible form..

  • That is a nifty little contraption for the dumbbells to go into, wish our gym had them.

  • @GigityGigity90I know right!

  • @GigityGigity90 they're cool yeah but I don't reckon id like someone spotting from in front, can imagine that could get irritating

  • brad kills it

  • Plus NFL players take AAS (roids) -.-...

  • @humdog3 you cant make an accurate comparison between the strength of rugby and nfl players because rugby is a continuous game. nfl is so start/stop that theres no fitness needed. rugby players need to have a lot more aerobic fitness than the nfl players and cant afford to be heavier

  • brad thorn isnt human...he's a fricken cyborg lol

  • To the guys saying AF do way heavier weights than rugby players thats true. But dont forget the strongest man in the world plays rugby and boxer George Foreman was known as the hardest hitter in boxing history yet he never did weights

  • @HorssingIT Who do you class as the worlds strongest man?

  • @shirtless15 He's talking about Mariuz Pudzianowski, theres also two currently competing in the world strongman comp who are also former rugby players.

  • @UHtiger ok, I've seen a pic of playing. Dont think hes competing in WSM anymore doing that fighting thingy

  • @HorssingIT The guy who recently broke the NFL combine record for bench press was a rugby player up until a few years ago as well.

  • @minimewestside yea hard aye he became the all blacks weights coach cause he doesn't know anything about weight lifting

  • Strong chest bounce/10.

  • how can a so called professional trainer watch some of our elite athletes do so many things so wrong with huge amounts of weight? Woodcocks form in bouncing a heavy bar off his sternum and Brads grip biomechanically all wrong! its dangerous and the idiot trainer who's never lifted big in his life standing by letting it happen, bloody idiot!!

  • @minimewestside it looks like a bounce because he's exploding upwards, different ttechnique.

  • Who cares about a bunch of steroid drug fucked rugby players? Pussies

  • @westiesmum69 haha fucking aussie your just pissed you got smashed in the rwc

  • strong humping motion at 0:20

  • Apples and oranges

  • brad thorn your a unit! come back to the broncos!!

  • .... American football is a great game I love it.. it's pretty intense and yeah you can crack people pretty hard... but it is NOT on the same level as rugby.. I think theoretically, I think people got maybe scared and made another sport derived from Rugby... Called American football [:

  • is that 315 lbs?

  • Strength, power, speed, agility, endurance, size more evidence that rugby players are the best athletes in the world.

  • Isaiah To'eava: "Oh I think I'll try lift what they're lifting.."

    Nek minnit..

"I think I'll just put them back."

  • awfull technique!

  • @jmcb76 Thanks for letting us know All Black trainer

  • @jmcb76 they do explousive and dynamic reps as you may see and i works for them, like for every athlete who need dynamic power.

  • Maybe they should implement football style weight training into their rugby routines... Awesome athletes, but heavy weights? This is under 19 football weights. Maybe will learn conditioning from rugby, I personaly used wrestling for mine as rugby wasn't available, but i think football can definitely teach them about weight training. Maybe it should be a football AND rugby training schedule, rather than a football vs rugby training. As both have qualities to teach the other...

  • @BodybuildinginTX Let me clear things up for you mate. Rugby players will never be as strong as football players and it's not because rugby conditioners don't know about weight training. Rugby has a massive aerobic component whereas American football requires no aerobic endurance. It's like comparing a marathon runner to a sprinter, who do you think is bigger and faster? Personally I'd prefer having a rugby body to a football body; I like walking up stairways without being asphyxiated.

  • @superboy90345 No aerobic conditioning? Seriously? You've never played or even seen football then. Try running sprint after sprint after sprint with very little to rest in between and tell me that doesn't take conditioning. The bodies are pretty much the same, so that makes no sense. And in football we stadium stairs... So we don't get asphyxiated either. Not sure what sport you think you're talking about, but it's not football.

  • @BodybuildinginTX sprint after sprint is anaerobic not aerobic. Just because you can run 40 metres ten times in a row, it definitely doesn't mean you can run for two fourty minute halves. I lived in Canada for a year and played football there, I know the type of training involved. I'm not trashing football either, it's a great game and there some physical freaks, I just think that rugby players are far better overall athletes in terms of the combination of power, endurance, speed and strength.

  • @superboy90345 And I'm not trashing rugby. All I'm saying is rugby could learn a thing ot two in terms of strength and speed training. Whereas, football, although the goood ones implement a lot of long term endurance training, many don't, so that's definitely something rugby could teach football.

  • @BodybuildinginTX I don't agree with you, but everyone has their own opinion, and I can't be bothered to argue with you any more

  • @BodybuildinginTX Also, as a side note, there is a massive fitness difference between a competitive rugby match and your average village game, i.e. US rugby club standard, which I assume is what you are used to.

  • @BodybuildinginTX your riht, im doing a AF style training fo weights and explosvness and speed bcoz they are the best at that. and my fitness im using rugby drills as that is what they are good at. i mean ima be honest AF players are fastr and strongr its only logical that i use their weight and speed style training as as they need to be really similar in both sports as thy are both contact sports so it covrs all bases. i use rugby fitness drills bcoz that is the game i will be playing

  • @BodybuildinginTX Thorns had a professional career spanning 16 years. Im sure he knows what he's doing, if being able too bench a tonne was really important for rugby then im sure they would train for it.

  • thorn is a beast!

  • these guys are strong as fuck!! what kind of diet do you need to have to get a rugby player physique like this? I bet they eat a hell of a lot to pack on such mass, and these workouts don't look any easier too...I guess it's lift heavy and eat heavy to be heavy eh...that must be it lol

  • @iclark2400 i know that flankers (not as built as these guys) have atleast 2 protein shakes a day , so these guys in the tight five must have a fuck load of meat and shakes

  • @moabdah9 wow they must consume a shitload of protein shakes and bars each day then, if flankers only take 2 a day...do you play competitive rugby? I have always wondered what rugby players consume that makes them become so huge like tanks, I guess a big part of it has to do with good genetics (they can put on the pounds easier than normal people) and they also train their ass off in the gym, but these guys are like Spartan warriors...strong like an ox! yea they prob eat a lot of red meat too.

  • @iclark2400 yes i play in tony woodcocks position : prop but im not proffesional or anything its just an after school thing but i train 3-4 times a week and play twice, and i always think that, i mean, it takes years to get built like brad thorn for example (the taller one) personally i think that it has something to do with childhood because if youre fat and you build on muscle youll look kind of like tony woodcock but about a 6ft 5 build as hell guy like brad thorn ive got no idea ahaha

  • @moabdah9 nice one, sounds like you train hard at it practicing 3-4 times a week and playing twice weekly that's some serious dedication to the sport right there...lol...how much do you weigh in kgs? I bet someone like brad thorn would weigh something like 115kgs, maybe even more! yeah building a body like theirs would take years of training, and they probably eat a shitload of protein-rich food each day, but they probably also have good genetics at the same time...brad thorn sure is a beast!!

  • @iclark2400 yeah love rugby, i dont really know how much i weigh but i play at u15 level so im not anything compared to these guys and im guessing brad thorn would be atleast 120-130kg , i guy who plays for my team is about 6 ft 2 and weighs in the 80s and he is the strongest person ive played against and his dad is 6 ft 6 built as fuck and was in the army so geneticts does count i guess ahaha

  • @moabdah9 U-15, that's cool mate someday you'll be a beast like Bad Thorn too if you keep training & playing regularly and maintain a good diet while eating a whole lot of protein and red meat! I heard that rugby players consume a lot of pies as well to bulk up and get more 'padding' on their bodies to absorb the impact during heavy collision tackles, is this true? well I do love my pies! lol...sounds like your teammate and his dad are monsters, I would not want to mess with either of them, lmao

  • @iclark2400 lol injured my shoulder just cuz i tackled him hahaa and i dont really know but either way pie is pie ahaha

  • @moabdah9 ouch, sounds painful but hope your shoulder is recovered now...I can imagine the impact must have been full on and quite painful! yeah I love pies, and I'm pretty sure those massive rugby players pack on the weight by eating a lot of pies too, cos they need a combination of fat and muscle to absorb those huge impacts during collisions...I guess pies do save lives after all! hahaha :D

  • @iclark2400 aha it was ages ago but still , and i know especially meaty pies= shepards pie, steak pie, chicken and mushroom pie, protein and fat all in one ahaha

  • Had no idea All Blacks still has high school knowlegde pressings weights. Quite shocked how bad their form was (including watching other vids)

  • damn brad thorn is impressive.

  • Umm ive played semi pro In England champ and believe me northern hemisphere rugby is not in the same league as southern hemisphere rugby. Il admit they are tough in the north but the game is no where near as fast, and the skill level is no where near the same. And under 20's thats school boy shit mate the minute you step up to playing against men professional men its a different story, they certainly make you feel at home in big boy land.

  • @pimpindeezhoes20fo7 no you fucking cunt read what i wrote. they played under 20s for england and now they play mens professionally. you dont know any more than i do but i can tell youre a worked up little masturbator who thinks he is awesome

  • @TheBigdowgz Um i can tell your a guy who rims homeless men for crack.

  • @pimpindeezhoes20fo7 unfortunately not my friend. im incredibly well off and if i needed crack, which i certainly dont then i would buy it as i (my parents) definitely have the money to fund a very large habit

  • @TheBigdowgz All i got from that is that you still live with your parents

  • @pimpindeezhoes20fo7 i do yes because im only 18 and im on my gap year

  • @TheBigdowgz your in your poohole year

  • Naturally they finished their sets

  • @squirrelhunter9999

    fucken lold hard

  • impressive...btw anyone knows the song?

  • I've had the pleasure of playing both sports at a prem level and to be honest both sports have different positions that ask for different fitness levels. So you cant down either sports because you could take a Defensive end and Middle line backer and place them easily in a Flanker or winger position easily and visa versa.

I got to say though that the strongest and fittest guys I've ever trained with were in the states and I got up to a 180kg bench easy with their mentality.

  • There is no point comparing NFL and Rugby. Irene Van Dyke could probably only lift 40 kilo's but on the netball court she would destroy Brad Thorn and every NFL player on this planet. Your comparisons are pointless.

  • @kuruki213 mate u can compare NFL and rugby because they are very similar games yet netball requires a completly different style of training, is not a contact sport like NFL and rugby are and therefore cant be compared. besides what does netball have to do with NFL and rugby. this is a video about the all blacks in the gym not a comparison in the first place.

  • Thorn, what a legend. I would not want to get on the wrong side of him.

  • brad the beast!

  • @Insubordinate90 your a dumb ass, i clearly said 250kgs. i converted pounds to kgs.

  • Everything about Brad Thorn is man.

  • Brad thorn: natural strength NFL College players:Roids and poofs

  • brad thorn: 140kgs, nfl college players: 250kg.....

  • @dulwichdweller2 your thinking in pounds mate. they bench 225 pounds at the NFL combine which works out at around 100 kg. dont go getting ahead of yourself

  • @hamishfraser19 nah mike kudla: 610pounds, vernon davis: 465 pounds, stephen paea 550 pounds

  • @dulwichdweller2 im sorry but rugby > american football. i have played both and size-ably prefer rugby due to its raw nature. american football is just stupid all round, so much padding you feel nothing, also not the stupid name, it should be called american egghand

  • @dulwichdweller2 yeah and how long would NFL players last on a rugby field without being out of breath? thorn plays close to 80 minutes a game while nfl players have a tea break between tackles

  • @qwertymac mate seriously do you think the NFL players would be unfit? its the most elite sport in the whole of the US. there is no chance that NFL players can afford to be unfit. I dont doubt they arent rugby players, they dont play rugby. not only this but rugby players are notorious for drinking and that shit doesnt happen in season in the nfl

  • @TheBigdowgz no. a large proportion of NFL players are not just overweight but obese. they have no ball skills whatsoever and are all in all a human speed bump. and if you think rugby players are heavily affected by "drinking and shit" then you are sorely mistaken. they are limited in what they consume nutrition wise and while they do drink, it rarely affects their fitness. in comparison, over all positions rugby have the fitter players without a doubt. unless

  • @qwertymac man i hate bigdowg

  • @TheBigdowgz Fuck off with your NFL you cant compare to sports from a spectators perspective. Unless you have played at the level these guys play at then how can you make a plausible argument. Different game mate and dont give me this rugby players are nototrious for drinking bullshit what would you fuckin know about southern hemisphere rugby players. And i wouldnt totally agree with you about NFL players not drinking during season do you know all of them personally?

  • @pimpindeezhoes20fo7 have you played at professional level? i have two friends who have played international rugby for england (u20s) leicester nottingham and northampton and from what i see of them personally and on facebook the story is pretty much how i say it is... this is a small sample i know.

  • Comment removed

  • @dulwichdweller2 The thing is mate... no one gives a fuck about NFL on rugby vids.

  • @dulwichdweller2 Brad thorn hard as fuck nfl college players fuck each other in the ass.

  • Naturally I finished my set :p

  • casual 140... standard

  • monster

  • At 00:19 i see a bulge in his pants :L

  • Were they benching 140kgs? Was it 3 x 20kg on each side plus bar of 20kg?

  • @MantisAtlantis they looked more like 25kg plates, but i could be wrong.

  • @MantisAtlantis nah no way its 20kg plates, bryan habana and will genia can bench 180kg, i doubt these guys being forwards will do less. that gym looked ancient, who knows how old and heavy those plates were

  • @dulwichdweller2 It's definitely 20 kg plates. According to Olympic standart, blue plates should weight 20kg or 44.09 lbs.

  • @dulwichdweller2 seems to me thorn at least could bench 180, he tore through 140 like it was nothing! and im struggling on 110 lol

  • @dulwichdweller2 isn't 20kg plates don't see the 10kg plate? big difference

  • @dulwichdweller2 in an interview with tony woodcock he said his best bench is about 160 170 and brad thorn is about 190 200

  • u mad brah

  • hmm what is the right form on this? I mean i only pench 140 but I do slow focused reps and I don't bring the bar to my chest since i have long arms

  • How heavy were those plates?

  • And afterwards in the showers daniel carter got his workout.....

  • @SeriosOnRs Just to straighten things out toeava aint shit, played against him when i marked him on the wing when i lived in aucks playing for western suburbs, Avondale. So yea i know what im on about when i talk bout him. And benching 140kgs aint easy for any rugby player as that aint all you have to be good at so I was very surprised to see that thorn and woody was doing it. I can only do a 1601RM and same reps as these guys so I can say it aint easy. Jason rutledges max is 180kgs

  • Benching is all well and good but what I'd really like to see is them tear through some squats and deads. Thats what seperates the men from the boys, the t-shirt muscles from the rugby players.

I heard Lomu used to squad while standing on two balance balls. Core strength of a Rhino.

  • The comments are so crack up.

  • All blacks rules!!! The best rugby team!

  • Too bad all that weightlifting can't win them any Webb Ellis trophies.

  • @GoliathDJDK the Webb Ellis is only 1 trophy so.....

  • its a pitty the springbucks are playing in the world cup, other than that you kiwis could probably win the cup

  • Pretty bad form on the way down you lazy bastards

  • Down with the ozzys up with sunny bill! I could bench press more with my bum checks

  • Will Genia is a beast .... lil chump lol

  • im gonna try and do 140kgs at the gym tomorrow...nekk minute ambulance

  • Give Brad Thorn a life time achievement award already!

  • beasts

  • Well said ,,you wont see many power lifters doing 20-30 km runs ,strength/cardio combined ,they also have to "peak" every weekend atm ,no easy task ..Brad has been a weapon ,He does a hell load of damage up front...

  • Not too shabby.. The Boks will make them look like little girls though

  • Comment removed

  • @MrDre101ful yeah but you don't play for the All Blacks? 120kg is still heavy, maybe not to you but these guys are athletes not powerlifters. After this they probably train for a few more hours than have to do it all again the next day

  • There's nothing heavy about 120kg... I weigh 85kg and bench 160kg/4reps... It's a good look but nothing to write home about!

  • Comment removed

  • @MrDre101ful 3 blue plates on each side = 140kg

  • @MrDre101ful you are very strong for your weight. The ABs are benching only 140, but they can sustain massive amounts of power and aerobic stamina over 2 periods of 40mins, not to mention the fierce collisions. I think it IS something to write home about.

  • @MrDre101ful Proof or GTFO

  • nek minute

  • Haha Toeava :D

  • Good effort.! Usually if form is wrong, it's harder. So they're even more tank (:

  • YEH BUDDY!

  • wholly fuck! how much is that!!!?!?

  • lol @ all the basement dwelling jealous neckbeards criticising their efforts.

  • These guys are strong but a lot of the form in the video sucks.

  • @hayeder Way to be a champ coaching professional athletes from a desk chair

  • @asdasdasdfasd on every video in the gym the ABs put up half of the comments are tossers complaining about form

  • i do the same weights

  • @Keeneonrugby but u dont play for the All Blacks

  • Like a boss

  • ... and naturally they finished their set.

  • im going to dislike it just to make everyone angry lol

  • Brad thorn is TANK !

  • Elbows are too far out. If they kept them closer then they wouldn't be lifting like pussies. Simple mechanics.

  • Toeava is a loser. Does nothing in the All blacks. Not once.

  • @SeriousOnRs yeah he does nothing except top the team for linebreaks and tackle busts, along with nonu with try assists as well but yeah thats nothing. Not to mention in the SA game he made more running metres than Israel Dagg. You're also an idiot who follows public opinion about players too much. I bet you're one of those idiots who this Sonny Bill is useless.

  • @kaino1990 why start a personal attack on some who's opinion differs from your own. I agree with you but that's not the best way to phrase it

  • @dfarrell538 A bit harsh I agree, but I cannot stand people bashing Toeava (or any other player) without a proper reason. Saying "Does nothing in the All Blacks" suggests that he follows the general public thought about Toeava. Half the people that attack Toeava haven't even watched him play the last few seasons and still remember him to in 2005/2006 where he was a fumbling teenager. Probably also the fact that he is one of my favourite players.

  • @kaino1990 I think they're going to win it this time IF DC doesn't get injured. I think Toeava and Hosea Gear should have been the starting winders throughout this tournament with Dagg at fullback but then again Graham Henry is coach of the AB's for a good reason, he knows his stuff

  • @kaino1990 Haha i laugh at you. A Aussie who knows nothing about rugby. Toeava misses more tackles then anyone else. He knocks the ball on more then anyone else. Shall i keep going? Ok, he also has no decision making skills. Kicks are the wrong time.. CANT even kick. Toeava is Graham Henrys pet. Nonu is miles ahead of Toeava and always will be. As soon as Henry is gone, Toeava will follow. Sonny bill is the same as Toeava but little better.

You clearly have no idea about the All Blacks. Typical

  • @SeriousOnRs Hahahaha, I laugh at you, a sports fag retard that knows nothing about reality. Seriously, nothing you have said requires higher thought, are you even sentient? It's like chimpanzees talking about how they're going to piss in their mouths today, how they'll throw poop and torment one another.

You're a sad disgrace to mankind. How about doing something productive rather than occupying what little brainpower you possess with sports related garbage? you ugly, fat, loser.

  • @SeriousOnRs how many tests have you played lately

  • @SeriousOnRs im actually a kiwi living in australia buddy, its AN aussie firstly. Toeava missed 1 tackle against SA? He might drop the ball, but people like jane dont even touch the ball, so toeavas returns are far greater than janes, who sits on the wing, or guilford, who cant even catch an up and under.. Hosea Gear cant kick, Sivivatu cant kick, Zac Guilford cant kick, heck, mils can't kick that well either whats your point? You just look at the bad stuff he does and ignore all the positives

  • @SeriousOnRs that toeava brings to the teams. Same as sonny bill, a workhorse in attack and defense, and hits the rucks like a loose forward. Toeava, bar injuries would be our top attacking weapon. You clearly don't watch the rugby, else you would know that because youre a fucking dope with no clue mate.

  • @SeriousOnRs u should take his place

  • @SeriousOnRs your the only loser toeava will probably smoke you u mug

  • Respond to this video... hater

  • @think4yourself1 oops this was supposed to b a response to the hater seriousonrs comment bout toeava

  • @think4yourself1 What the fuck are you on about? 90% of New Zealanders who follow rugby know Toeava doesn't deserve to be in the All Blacks.

  • @SeriousOnRs dude, they're there for a reason and thats to pull off their role in the game. so far i havent seen him fuck up, if your angry muliaina hasnt played yet thats because he chose not to play himself. besides, your name shows that your only a kid.
