Whats food is this? I have been feeding mine on tropical flake. this is what my male betta has always been fed so he's fine with it but i hate the way flake food gathers in the tank even if you don't over feed. I'm looking for another method of feeding him and also something he wou;ld prefer.

So what food is this?

and is it a full supplement, or do i need to use a variety ?

looks like tubifex to me, you could use this say twice and week and flake food the rest or you could add in bloodworms aswell, but i think tubifex and bloodworms can carry diseases so make sure you get it from a reliable shop.

you can get it frozen at fish shops.

@chloeissocoollike1 Female bettas can be aggressive towards each other, too, but a sorority of at least 4-6 can be maintained if they're given plenty of territory to share with lots of hiding places. Depending on the temperaments of the individual bettas, too, of course. Some are just too dominant or aggressive.

@milkarandy Check your facts before you tell someone else that they've failed. Bettas can live much longer than two years, particularly if they're given proper care (i.e. decent room to swim in, a heater, clean water, and proper food rationing).

If you look at betta information sites, bettas live an average of 2 to 3 years. There are many bettas who live up to 4, but that's tahnks to great care, ie good tank, good food, good water change, etc.

@mynameispurpleman Well they don't get "pregnant", female have eggs in their bodies no matter what. If she's filled with eggs and don't have males around, she will eventually "let them go" and she will usually eat them. If there are males around, then the eggs could be fertilized.

I actually have to hand feed my betta male. He refuses to eat anything unless it moves and I don't think live feed it the best alternative since it does tend to bring some nasty parasites. I've had to experiment a lot to get him to eat. He will refuse any kind of fish food I give him. He will take an occational bloodworm but he won't eat that every day. After two weeks I got so frustrated I tried pretty much anything. I've now found two things he loves. Shred tuna and chicken but it has to move.

Yeah girls will fight, and they can really hurt each other too. My tank was too small for mine but I've read that if you get a good sized tank with lots of places to hide you can keep two or more just fine in there. It all depends on the fishes' personality too.

you can sometimes have up to 5 females in one tank living peacefully if you have enough hiding places for them like plants or caves. However, a male and female in the same tank is not a good idea, unless you are trying to breed them like me =]
