Man! This is just like watching a professional athlete in their prime having a monster game. This is how Van Halen should always be remembered, Damn Roth was a great front man back then. I don't think time has has been as kind to them as some of the other bands out there, but got to respect them for getting back out there! Looking forward to the Atlanta show and hope Dave's voice holds up! They did a hell of a job in 07-08
Freaking Out!! Seeing them next week, 3/1/12 at madison square garden. soundtrack to my life in HS in the early 80s. Last time I saw them in '82 I remember my boyfriend back then got arrested for taking pics (he sold concert pics and sold them at the flea market and is now a famous fashion photographer) and I don't even remember how i got home. Ah, these boys knew how to rock it out. Can't wait for next Thursday already!!
when rock was fucking rock!! you paid your dues in the clubs and worked your ass off for a record deal. nowadays, you just have to be seen on youtube like beiber and make it.
This is such a great clip. What a show these dudes mustve put on.I was only 2 when this came out.I cant believe how there is no band of this caliber nowadays that can play live and make music like this band. These rock bands are all bitchmade.I'm so glad these guys pulled off a great new album.I didnt really expect anything that good considering that awful"tattoo" single, but Eddies got a lot of monster riffs goin on.I miss that classic tone he had on the Roth albums, but his sound is gigantic now.
This video is very troublesome to me. A little a about me, I was born in Oakland back in 1982 and everyone tells me I look like David Lee Roth??!! Then I find this video with my mom in it (the lady with the red-white stripped shirt). Weird ain't it. She said my dad died in 1985 and was a small town entertainer.
I think Anthony would never make it in any band if not for Van Halen including him in as a robot bass player, his high pitched boys choir could easily be replaced by a 12 year old girl.
Ya, when this band was firing on all cylinders like in this video, I'd have to say they were the mightiest. Two Midwestern guys and two dutch guys meet up in LA and make that town their own. Keggers, parties and doobie, palm trees, hot chicks...these guys lived. No LA's a bunch of pansies.
the MIGHTY Van Halen.....was said as an intro to every one of their shows....and it was not an exaggeration.....I've never had a level of excitement like I had for the original lineup of VH....feel lucky to be of the generation that got to see this live and to blown away as it was happening....every album, every Circus magazine spread..walls covered in posters.hell, I even bough a Kramer guitar with a floyd rose whammy bar.love this clip "got myself a brand new Oakland scarf right here....ahhhh:
how does this not have millions of views? what u all listening to? bieber or lady gaga? really? put down the faggoty music and see what rock should be.
Yeah it's really tragic what the kids of today are listening to !
The most of them haven't got a clue !
I saw them in 1984 in Sweden and I met Eddie when they where supposed to play Copenhagen in 1980. He was stoned like a Jumbojet but very nice and friendly.
This is a BAND my friends..KICK ASS..This is what is missing in music today, a frontman and people that ACTUALLY PLAY MUSIC, no contest for 5 million dollars with some british snob and a reality star saying if your a good singer. This is what music should be about MUSIC.
@EntomologyPurdue I was the same way. This was the best video on MTV in that first year or two. I still remember every note and the way Dave accented certain parts in this clip even even after not seeing it for 29 years. Thank you Youtube.
This is just awesome!!! Love that crazy guitar in beginning. How does he do it? The way he makes that guitar talk is just so influential.wow just to cool man.Great fun song to and live performance.:0)
Never seen anyone so comfortable on stage, just like he was born to it. He had an ego the size of Jupiter and rightfully so. To bad he got so smashed during the last years that his performance was toned down to just 'great'.
@LOMAZ5150 Marty had a cassette tape of EVH, too. They should've gone back to take measures to prevent the breakup in 85. That's the script people would've cared about.
saw them in 81 at the forum in ingelwood ca .. VH forever baby .. saw them i think in 07 in Anaheim ca with wolfy doin the bass .. i hope the new album comes out soon ..
Nobody will ever have the confidence and total lack of inhibitions like David Lee Roth. The world has become too cynical. It takes balls to be like DLR. Rock stars go on stage wearing the same t-shirt they slept in and stare at their shoes for an hour. AND we have to listen to them go on and on about how much they hate war. WHO DOESN'T! I always marvel at how all the ingredients came together so perfectly with Van Halen(the original). Hell Eddie's guitar tone itself (how he got that killer distortion) has kept guitar slingers scratching their heads in disbelief since that first record.... nevermind his playing and song writing.Bands like This are once in a life time.

I wanna see the Van Halen Movie. Can't wait and I can picture it now...a black and white scene of two little, young dutch boys walking off the boat to America and seeing California for the first time. Scenes of them playing piano with their father on the boat on, the way over. It would be a smoking hot movie if it could capture the live energy of this song.
i have been looking for this on dvd on video for years ..someone out there must have it ..i love this concert so much energy ..its a must have for me ...these we're the prime days of VAN HALEN !
@outlawdalejr8 I highly doubt anyone has this full concert in this quality. I've seen badly chopped pieces of content from other shows in this tour that were audience shot, but this clip and the similar clips of Hear About It Later and Unchained exist because they were used by MTV as the official music videos for these songs. You can see the MTV typesetting at the beginning of this clip. These 3 songs are found on a lot of bootleg VH video compilations, tho. Search "VH early years" on ebay.
@Sunburnt99 Seen it for myself, he did just fine at 17....Mikey who?? I love Mikey too, but shit, Get over it dude....Wait til this tour and Wolfie rips shit up.
@Sunburnt99 maybe not vocally but he already kicks mikes ass on the bass and by the way the kid plays guitar.................................just like his dad......rock on
How awesome. To the few asking about this show, I have at least 5 vids from this show but they are also all on YouTube. I'm drawing a blank but dance the night away and hear 'bout it later are the other two most played from this concert.
Man! This is just like watching a professional athlete in their prime having a monster game. This is how Van Halen should always be remembered, Damn Roth was a great front man back then.

I believe this is Van Halen at their best. Not to spite Sammy, he's awesome but Van Halen in their original form? This is it!

i have been looking for this on dvd on video for years ..someone out there must have it ..i love this concert so much energy ..its a must have for me ...these we're the prime days of VAN HALEN !
outlawdalejr8 1 year ago
@outlawdalejr8 I highly doubt anyone has this full concert in this quality. I've seen badly chopped pieces of content from other shows in this tour that were audience shot, but this clip and the similar clips of Hear About It Later and Unchained exist because they were used by MTV as the official music videos for these songs. You can see the MTV typesetting at the beginning of this clip. These 3 songs are found on a lot of bootleg VH video compilations, tho. Search "VH early years" on ebay.

How awesome. To the few asking about this show, I have at least 5 vids from this show but they are also all on YouTube. I'm drawing a blank but dance the night away and hear 'bout it later are the other two most played from this concert.

It doesn't get any better than this. Van Halen in their prime with Diamond Dave at the helm! Thank God we have this footage to enjoy!
