Are you double clutching to 2nd? and why? I'm looking at a GTV6 i want so badly, but i dont have much money, and it's grinding when you shift to second.. i'm wondering if it's worth the buy.. i've wrenched before on a couple different vehicles, the closest i've been to gearing is inside of a differential.. Do you think swapping a 2nd gear out of the tranny is a big deal? or synchro, or whatever is in there? any help is appreciated.
@Sussudio1000 Noooo invece cambia benissimo.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so Also keeps carbs/injection and tank clean and rustfree!
I think you are confusing double clutch shifting with a dual mass flywheel. I don't think any older (US market) alfa's had a dual mass flywheel, as those are typically found in larger displacement slower revving engines. Double clutching refers to engaging the clutch while the transmission is in neutral between shifts to match the input shaft speed to the output shaft to avoid grinding in non-synchro transmissions, or to aid driving in fragile or older transmissions, like these gtv's have.
Great sound but too quiet in this vid.

What is with the Pep Boys shift knob? Not good.
djaca70 1 year ago
@djaca70 Actually it's a Momo aluminum race knob, which I had turned on a lathe to accept a brass and enamel Alfa Romeo Cloisonne in the top center.
It is far better than the original molded plastic one. Good eye, though - you were almost right!

Nice 1-2 double clutch! Save the synchros!
fiatman71 1 year ago
@fiatman71 don't all manual alfa's have a double clutch? I know the spiders have double clutches, and there expensive to replace ( $1,000.00 USD ).

@21brian12 Not at all. It was a great car. Didn't have space for it at the time.
