I don't think there's a hint of hope in this song, what she says in the lyrics is what the man who left her told her before he left, that she would be good even if...until finally he said she'd be fine with or without him. The typical speech when you want to dump someone without a reason. Alanis's cry at the end of the song makes me weepy every time I listen to it . It's the kind of cry I would like to scream out loud every time my heart pains. Thanks Alanis, your cry is my cry sometimes.

I hate people who like covers better than the original performer! Kelly is the symbol of what music is today, no talent, fake musicians who are more about appearance than musical ability. Alanis looks dead in the face because she is feeling what she is singing. something in the past that is painfull to her. kelly is just singing a song that she happens to like and was told to smile.
