First of al, I don't believe that this wasn't staged. Secondly, the man is entitled to draw on decades of credibility as a musical legend and get annoyed once in a while within the law. Lastly, who could care less? We should not forget that the man is, for the most part, just an ageing rocking philanthropist who still puts on a great act past sixty years old and can't really do any harm to anyone.

First of all, he does this on purpose. I saw him live with Billy Joel TWICE, and he did this both times. It's for effect. He's the greatest performer I've ever seen live. Hands down. The man will probably retire soon, but hopefully he keeps touring for a little while longer...he's just as good as he's ever been.

No, this is important, because we always hear about what Bernie an others call "Elton's little moments," when he throws a hissy feet and storms off, flips his wig. But there's no good video of it ever, so it's a curiosity for fans, which is why this title gets hits. But it's a lame example of a fit. The sound quality is lousy and might have sounded that way to Elton at that moment too.

I think it had something to do with the amount of echoing going on. But He is a great crowd pleaser a couple of years go I went to one of his concerts and a couple of seconds into a song (I can't remember which one) he stops and makes a popping sound. Like when you stick your finger in your mouth and then pull back out and makes the pop. Anyway it was really random and funny

There must have been something wrong with the sound. I've never seen him hit the mic like that. He has a special reverb on that part in the song, and the sound guy probably wasn't doing what he wanted.

I went to one of his shows (March 10 Delaware) where it was just him and the piano and during Sacrifice the sound guy left the table and this huge LOUD static sound came over and it went on for about 1 min. and he just kept on playin a true professional. He did look like he was just about to walk off the stage and just leave. But, he still continued. (He was pissed off wanted to kill that guy)

Elton's voice has deepened a lot after he had that surgery on his vocal chords a while back... aparantly he had some tumors...

anyway, he says that he likes his voice more now.. that its more soulful. i guess i agree with that. as he said himself, before he was a piano player that sung, and now he's a singer that plays the piano.

I was watching another video of this same song at this same concert, and it was earlier on in the song. Elton sung, "Mars aint the kind of place to raise your kids, it's lonely out in space" instead of, "Mars aint the kind of place to raise your kids, in fact it's cold as hell" So maybe he hit the mic because he was frustrated with himself? Who knows? lol You gotta love Elton though :)

I think the fact that he's still producing great albums and touring almost all year long to sold out arena's all over the world speaks for itself; that Elton John still is one of the worlds greatest songwriters and VOCALISTS. But it's all a matter of opinion I suppose. Because there ARE people out there that actually don't like elton john's voice and/or music. So to each his own :)

Sure Elton's voice has changed over the years mostly due to the surgery to remove nodules from his vocal chords...but Elton is still a genius songwriter and singer. I've seen him in concert several times and each time he hit every note perfectly in tune.

Elton's been doing the song that way for years. I assure you- he doesn't lip- synch. I have heard him do shows when he hardly has a voice (Listen to his Aust. Orchestra album).

Elton usually follows the second chorus of the song with a lengthy instrumental section that includes his singing the lines "a long long time" over and over with a great deal of reverb and echo. These leds into the ending lines "cause I'm a rocket..." with no echo or effects. I think people mistake him saying "cause i'm" for "goodnight". The echo and reverb effects seem to have been left on which pissed him off.

i was lucky enogh to see him in 1980 at ames iowa, he did a 16 minute rendition of rocket man(no reverb back then) the ames school press critics said he had drug it out to long, some months later in a rolling stone interview, he mentions the press note, and state, " i wrote the fucking song, i will play it any way i want" that's why i love him! he does not hold back about how he feels.

As a long time fan- what you are hearing elton say is "Cause I'm (a rocket...) not goodnight. I am certain of this as I have seen him perform this song many times. He is angry because the reverb was left on from the previous section of the song and it distorted the words on the ending. He is very unforgiving for technical problems in his live set....

Think you will find that Elton has cue's for the reverb to be cut after the end of the song! they missed there cue to cut effect! Elton Hits the mic out of frustration, to let them Know. Elton tries to cover up.....To Late!

Elton Is the most passionate performer, and will not suffer second best. Or idiots! And does not expect to give his fans second best either. Not like some artist in concert. Rock on Elton!

He was pissed hardcore about something...later in that show he threw a bottle of water and it went all over Guy Bablon's keyboards and stuff...and then they cut out The Bitch is Back and Saturday Night....and we he played Don't Let the Sun...Nigel and Davey didn't even come back on stage and John Mahon had to play drums for the song...very odd...it seems Nigel and Davey wouldn't put up with Elton's tantrum.
