I always thought that the Star Wars Transformers line would be SO much cooler if they just used the ships and had them transform in random robots, as opposed the ships' respective pilots. That would've given Hasbro a lot more freedom to develop a toy that actually had passable (at least) robot mode, which literally NONE of the current Star Wars guys have.

So because of this review I picked this guy up a few months back and I was so impressed by it I picked up Grievous/Grievous Starfighter and Obi-Wan/Jedi Starfighter a few weeks later! ...oh my god those toys are so crap. Never EVER buy a Transformers crossover toy without knowing what you are getting yourself into T-T I'm out $30 bucks I'll never get back.

Actually, you are spot on. In the books that talk about the Death Star they go into detail about the Empire trying to save money on shit. They're all like "we spent too much money on this project" and "Now our asses are broke" further " we'd better make piece-of-crap TIE-Fighters and shitty ass stormtroopers in order to recoup our expenses"

I find it super weird that you like that thing more than animated seekers. They remind me strongly of the buck Rogers fighter that was designed by the same guy who designed the original SW ships. It sounds silly but I prefer to see influence over a forced waste of plastic.

I have no clue what a magnaguard star-fighter is, but that could be a perk actually... He's just a random spacecraft that turns into a robot, give him a cool decepticon name, invent a bio and you're all set.

I must agree with Thew on this - the toy is not crap, on the contrary, it's pretty cool. But what "sells" any toy (to me at least) is not just what that toy is, but what it represents. I couldn't enjoy the prequel SW films, and to me anything that comes from that setting just doesn't...uhm...push the right buttons, if you get what I mean.

I have 2 star wars crossovers (an x wing and an at-at) and they never leave alt mode. Why? Because their alt modes are TOTALLY AWESOME and at-ats may be the coolest thing ever, unless they make that R2 that transforms into yoda. Still, having a desktop At-At was totally worth the price, even though half the toy was completely pointless.

Actually, Thew, the SHINY NEW TECHNOLOGY in the Prequels is explained by Palpatine actually being a competent leader.

After he became Emperor, he basically just made sure that what ever is made in terms of ships or new designs was made for the Empire specifically.

The Rebellion was actually using decades old ships because all the ship making factories were owned by, made stuff for, and were completely controlled by the Empire.

Yeah Palpatine even made sure the droid army was destroyed so that once it no longer served his purpose they would not serve any one elses.

All six movies back to back work well. Hayden Christensen being the only real downside to the prequels.

On the plus side the clone wars saga is an excellently done TV show, and their Anakin is far more life like than Hayden ever was.

Thew I also own this figure and like it quite a bit, although like you I don't care for the source material. However this figure easily fits in as one of the Cybertron natives, or one of the ancient Cybertronians. He works quite well in that regard IMO. I might slap a few Con logos on mine. Great figure if you ignore the SW prequel connection.

Killer review as always man, Star Wars sadly has been milked dry ever since the Prequals & that CGI Clone Wars TV show came along.

However you've got to like the original trilogy as that is what most of us grew up watching.

That's a very sweet Alt-mode.

As you, not a big fan of this line. I, however, got one Crossover figure which is the Uber huge Darth Vader. His robot mode is the biggest kibble-motherhumper ever, but the Death Star I think it's sweet.

The old 3 movies are the best ones, and always will be.
