  • beautiful sounding bass

  • @slapadabass97

    Thanks.

  • How much was that?

  • also great hair , thick, lush and chinese in influence

    try side burns

  • utter crap... not

  • @mrtmcmorton

    Thanks?

  • 2kosher is probably not a good bass player, with terrible ear for music. This is the most spot on bass cover of this song I have ever seen on youtube. And trust me I've seen almost every one on here while trying to figure out the correct way to play. Fantastic job man!!!

  • @mkotucek614

Thanks. I'm pretty confident about the correctness of the way I play this song but I don't argue. And I'm certainly not perfect. Thanks again.

  • Sounds like you were missing a few notes at the beginning (so much for being a picky Rush fanatic!)

  • @2kosher

    It's possible.

  • So that story almost happened like 2112!!!! this guy doesn't like something and finds a profound guitar.... who woulda thought....

  • How many Rics do you own and how much did you pay for them?

  • @SonicFanChannel

I own just the one Rickenbacker.

  • Beautiful bass.. what are the masks for? They creeper me out at first lol

  • @throwsand

    Thanks. I collect the masks.

  • Finally! I found one that is correct. Can't get much closer than you have it!!

  • @itzabo

    Cool. Thanks.

  • @scotmenard really? Whoa I know I wont be able to afford it, but how much is it? Just curious

  • Super job on the playing...I thought I was the biggest Geddy fan until I started watching your videos yesterday!? I have a white 4080 double neck for sale (as used on passage to bangkok)...if you're interested send me a ping....love to see you use that on one! Scot samenard@shaw.ca

  • @scotmenard

Thanks a lot. I love the idea of owning a Ric double neck but know I'd never play it.

  • how many years u play bass????

  • @toumazos5

    Over 30.

  • I've been trying to find a Rick everywhere, but the only ones I can find cost, like 10000 bucks and they are guitars!

  • @SkittlzNinja

They are still hard to find but not as hard as they were a year or two ago. There's a store near me, Alto Music in Middletown, NY, that recently had a blue one for $1,500 which is $4-500 less that what they were going for at their peak. If you go on Rickenbacker's website you can use their "Dealer Locater" and find what dealers near you recently got shipments, what models and finishes.

  • no many people are, but you are worthy of a rickenbacker bass

    rock on!

  • @captain139

    Thanks.

  • @captain139 Sorry but that comment is just plain stupid

  • @eckie4679 fuck you man. i just say whats on my mind. and besides i see plenty of covers where they have a rickenbacker and suck ass so it seems pretty relevant that i say that

  • @captain139 How childish - maybe your folks forgot to switch on the parental controls on your PC ? Anyway, keep telling us what's on your mind - that shouldn't last more than one or two posts. Apologies Troy

  • @xGuideUNCUT

    No. Sorry.

  • i love the mask in quadrant two, point (4,3)...........lolololol math

  • @WillKills7

Is that the one with the jaw exposed? It's called "Bloodbath".

  • @WillKills7 I'm sorry to do this but I'm a math nazi. If it were in quadrant 2, then the point would be (-4,3). Really sorry I had to do that. What I really wanted to say was this is the easiest Rush song ever and that says something. Geddy fucking rocks and can sing at the same time!

  • @SubMetal1000 ohh haha thanks. its sad because im in advanced math class -____- but i totally agree with the geddy lee comment. he does fucking rock! and even if this is an easy song compared to geddy's other work, it's still a complex song, and an amazing one at that. you did a perfect job. rock on!!!!

  • i learning that song

  • @LaughingPeanutStudio

    Cool. How's it going?

  • @TJH3113 pretty good

  • Wow, this is great work. My only question is; Where can I get some of those heads behind you?

  • @InsomniacMusician

Thanks. Most are from Deathstudios. Just Google it. Jeff Death is a great guy.

  • Wow you are a awesome, best ive seen on youtube!, I just started playing the bass about 8 months ago, and got intersted in playing rush. So far i have only been able to play Limelight and TomSawyer.

Do you have any tips or anything that i can learn from you? Do you know any other bands that have similar awesome bass?

I have aThunderBird Pro V do you think it is inapropiate to play some kinds of music if i have that bass, or anyother bass?

How much do you study or used to sutdy daily?

    Cheeeeeers

  • @StopMotionIsMyEmotio

Thank you and congratulations on taking up the bass guitar. I hope you get as much enjoyment and satisfaction out of playing it as I have.

As far as tips for you - play as much as you can and play stuff you enjoy playing. I'm self-taught , play by ear, and learned by playing along with records. I've found the music of Kansas to be a challenge in a way different from RUSH.

The type of bass you play makes no difference as long a you're comfortable with it.

  • @TJH3113 i like trains.

  • @TJH3113 and bridges..... lololz

  • @WillKills7

Would you like to go over a bridge on a train?

  • Do you have any good tips for finger techniques, my fingers are really stiff and i cant play very fast, btw, Nice Vids.

  • @jonze961

Not really. Just keep practicing and try to get them loose. It will come with time and effort. I used to play some simple scales starting from the 5th fret and working my way down to get my fingers limber. Thanks.

  • What model Rickenbacker is that, and how much does it cost on average?

  • @jerrythepotato1919

It's a 4003 and I think they go for around $1,900 - if you can find one in a store. They're pretty hard to come by, around here anyway.

  • holy shit... are you like the fucking... bass player in the studio recordings... :D dude thats the shit!

  • @Tromboneplaya

No. Just had way too much time on my hands as a teenager. Keep rockin' that trombone. Thanks.

  • @cannagalize

Thank you very much. That was very nice of you to say.

  • my hat is off to you! thanks!

  • @deartoni70

Thank you. Now put your hat back on - it's cold out.

  • Great dude....You look so relaxed playing this....good job man.

  • @TheCaskOf43

    Thanks.

  • Great job

  • @jcm9630

    Thank you.

  • excellent job, very nice!

  • @alnemethuknow

    Thanks.

  • cool man this is gonna be the first Rush song i learn thanks! mighty bass an love the masks=)

  • @beans1979

Very good. This is probably one of the first RUSH songs I learned myself, along with Bastille Day and maybe In The Mood. Thanks.

  • @TJH3113 I got 'Fly by night' licked. Thanks again!! now on to learning 'Bastille day' Great work !!

  • @beans1979

    Cool! Get on it.

  • why dont you do how to play rush basslines videos most people cant nail them like you can geddys the john bonham of bass also whats with the masks

  • @goonyougoodthing

I've done a couple of "how-tos" and may do more soon. I collect masks and other "horror" related stuff.

  • awesome !

  • @lanteigne9

    Thank you.

  • nice late model 4003, sir. Walnut winds on the headstock, full width inlays, etc. nice playing!

  • @clank4001

Thank you. I think the walnut wings add a lot to the appearance of the bass.

  • what kind of bass is that?

  • @LOOT606

    It is a Rickenbacker 4003.

  • @TJH3113 Best bass in the world in my opinion!

It's really beautiful and sounds great!!!

  • @AJFedora

    Thanks.

  • Can you do a tutorial for this song, or link this the tabs?

I really want to learn this correctly.

  • @Albert2534

I don't use tabs myself so I can't link you to any, sorry. Tutorials take a lot longer than these videos do because I actually have to think about what I'm doing but as soon as I get a chance, I'll do one.

  • alright man i got to more questions then ill leave you alone thanks for getting back to me so quick alright first where do you learn ur songs and tabs or sheet music id definatly give a tutorial on this song i realy wanna learn it thanks man

  • @buttersbass34

No, not really. Once and a while someone might ask for some pointers on a particular song so I'll play it slowly or give some tips on how I play it. I have a small tutorial section if you look under the "playlist" section on my channel.

  • @buttersbass34

Rickenbackers have a pretty distinct sound to them so nothing comes to mind. Some reasonably priced Ibanez basses have been known to get some nice mid-range growl. Check out this fellow on YouTube by the name of "jamzales". He plays an Ibanez and gets some great sounds out of it.

  • dude, i love the rick. amazing colour. and it sounds amazing.

  • @DyingPulseProduction

Thanks a lot, I like it as well. It's natural maple though it looks like a cream or off white. They're hard to come by so when I found this one I wasn't going to pass on it while waiting for a better color/finish.

  • I love how you "sing". excellent.

  • @vtx1300dave

    Thank you. "sing" ?

  • @TJH3113 I have been studying RUSH with renewed passion for the previous 2 years. Like yourself, "re-visited" the bass as my life circumstances continue to change, but I've come to the realization that playing the bass was not a passing fad in my 20s for a few years.

    cont...

  • @TJH3113 I'm also studying other bassists, amongst them Victor Wooten. Victor says that you should "play what you sing" as part of an exercise in his teaching, and if you listen carefully to his lessons I think he actually attempts to "sing" with his instruments.

Back to studying Geddy,... I have come to realize that even his "simple" songs are well "sung" with his sliding techniques and runs to complete chords, etc.

This to me is the mark of a pro player and you've got it down!

    Awesome!

  • @vtx1300dave

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comments and observations. At the risk of sounding melodramatic I'll say that the music of RUSH means far more to me than simply "a band whose music I like." It's more like a timeline of my life. In the last ten years I had all but put down my bass and when I picked it back up again, I returned to where it all began for me and have gotten as much joy and satisfaction out of the return trip than I did during the maiden voyage.

  • Perfect!!!

  • @danimotta Thanks.

  • Man you got the Rush Rockin on the Rick for sure..Great playing

  • @ArkansasGillum Thanks a lot.

  • FIVE STARS that was so sick. Theres something about ricks that just always have that woody tone not a single bit of cheesy plastic in the sound at all! Im guessing from the fret board inlays that ur rick is a pretty new one like mine, was just wondering how you got the pickup cover off its starting to annoy me now! hehe

  • @pretentiouspigeon Thank you Pretentious. My rick is fairly new, I got it in 2008. It's real easy to take the cover off. You might want to do it the next time you change your strings. Just remove the 4 small screws and the whole mess lifts out. Then unscrew the 2 larger p/u height adjustment screws all the way to free up the cover. There are 2 springs and a little ground wire. Trust me it's easy. Just look over everything carefully before you take it apart. And don't scratch your rick!

  • Ah, one of my favorite Rush tunes

The Fly by Night album seems to be a bit.. overlooked nowadays

And your cover is spot on, the tone is nearly identical :)

  • @Kumagoro314 I agree. They came out swinging with Fly By Night, it's a solid album. The bass in Anthem is as challenging as anything they put out after. And thanks.

  • I LOVE your covers, they're all on spot with a great sound :) Your bass guitars are awesome too :)

  • coosomo, thank you for viewing and for taking the time to pay me the compliment. Do you play?

  • @TJH3113 Yeah, been playing bass for almost 2 years now..

  • Cool. How's it going? Have you taken lessons? or self taught? I saw on your channel that you're a RUSH fan along with some other good influences thrown in there - John Entwistle, Chris Squire, Steve Harris... can't go wrong with any of them.

  • @TJH3113 Well, I took some lessons, but not much.. I'm not THAT bad though, haha.

  • I'm sure you're not. As long as you enjoy what you're doing and get some satisfaction from it is all that matters. I learned to play by ear, which was frustrating at times but is a good skill to develop.

  • @TJH3113 I sometimes get extremely frustrated, but it doesn't break me :P

  • I remember All The World's A Stage being a lot to absorb for an uninitiated RUSH listener. Did you ever get that Mahogany

    Rush album?

  • Yep, that's how it happened....thank god!
