@Aniland To me it's both. It feels like something really sad has happened but you're slowly getting through it and you're coming out of it on the bright side. Anytime I've had a bad day Red House Painters has always helped me to calm down and I always end up in a better mood for it. Their music is like an antioxidant.

He has changed the lyrics over the years. Different on some of the live versions. "When she needs to get away" vs "When you need to get away", "I'd like to pick it up and play" vs "Sometimes I pick it up and play" "The most gorgeous song" vs "the most perfect song." Kozelek is such a versatile musician...I swear he never plays his songs the same way twice.

I think as long as Mark Kozelek is making music, there will always be a "Red House Painters". He was the overwhelming essense of it all, in my opinion, whether it be in Red House Painters, Sun Kil Moon, solo work.. Hell, even in his cover songs, you can hear a heartfelt effort.
