I couldn't help but comment, the owner was not cruel by taking the kittens, if that was the case. The mother was obviously not stressing because she must be comfortable with her owner by now and trusting her litter with them. Like any mother, you wouldn't want your kids going astray so you try and keep them together in a place it will be easier for you to keep your eyes on all. Plus she's teaching them discipline.

These people weren't being cruel. In the wild, the kittens would probably have been wondering off a little bit here and there, by that stage, and it's the mother's natural instinct to pick them up and return them to 'safety', anyway. What would have been cruel is the humans getting in the mother's way, or trying to prevent her from taking them.

Reading the comments below, I was amazed how many people could be so alarmist and ignorant! The cat and her kittens were perfectly fine!!! They were probably ALL in that next room together, then mummy cat decided to put them back in the basket in the laundry. Either way, it's a good exercise to do with a cat's first litter, to ensure mummy does her job, and isn't neglecting or rejecting them. She's good mummy :)

This reminds me of a story my mum told me, when she was my age a stray cat had kittens in her laundry. One day she needed to clean the laundry and she carried the kittens outside, but as she carried the kittens outside the mother cat was carrying them back in. To clarify, the kittens weren't locked under the bed, it was a basket the the cat chose to have her kittens in. She was able to come and go freely from it as there is plenty of room between the bed and the basket edge! The basket is kept under the bed and we pulled it out when we were filming. No cats were harmed during the making of this video

My mommy cat was having trouble picking up her three kittens, so I helped move them to her new nest, but when I made only 2 trips, not 3 (a kitten in each hand on the 1st go), she completely freaked out searching for the 3rd kitten, just because I didn't make a third trip! I had to take her to the new spot and show her all 3 babies before she'd calm down. So hard for cats to find good help, I guess, haha ^_^
