Like an Emmisons Trading scheme and Mining Super Profits Tax, crippiling industry, and now that the ALP have signed and agreement with the Australian Greens, we will see the possbility of Income Tax raised, Stamp Duty raised, 50% Mining tax, Company Tax rates of 33%, $2 Billion from the mining industry, leaving investment to go somewhere else including ending the mining of uranium. The ALP are just as bad.
That 2 Billion extra is additional to the 50% Mining Tax suggested by the Greens, on our major export and prime industry, our economy relies on the investment of the mining industry.
The economy doesn't only rely on the mining industry, and the economy has been doing very well despite this "Big New Tax" especially in comparison to every other country affected by the GFC as a result of Kevin Rudd's very good decision. There's a reason that Howard not only lost the election, but his seat with pretty much the whole nation against him. The only thing Gillard wants to move forward from is the execution of Rudd. Hopefully we will se a double dissolution soon.

Like an Emmisons Trading scheme and Mining Super Profits Tax, crippiling industry, and now that the ALP have signed and agreement with the Australian Greens, we will see the possbility of Income Tax raised, Stamp Duty raised, 50% Mining tax, Company Tax rates of 33%, $2 Billion from the mining industry, leaving investment to go somewhere else including ending the mining of uranium. The ALP are just as bad.

The economy doesn't only rely on the mining industry, and the economy has been doing very well despite this "Big New Tax" especially in comparison to every other country affected by the GFC as a result of Kevin Rudd's very good decision. There is also a very big reason why Rudd was backstabbed by his own party, Rudd was elected by the people and the outcome of his decisions should have also been faced by the people. Rudd would not of survived that recession had it not been for the Howard/Costello budget surplus in their 11 and a half year reign in govenment. And another thing, it seems to be an ALP policy to always compare how they are doing COMPARED, to other countries, and not how WE as a country could be doing.

@MrFunxy As Howard put it, 10 years is a long time to hold government in this generation. Rudd's Labor won the '07 election with an 83 seat majority, Howard also losing his seat, a reflection on how the Australian people were sick of the Howard Government, not wanting the Rudd Government, and now as we saw in the '10 election, reduced to a 72 seat minority government. The only thing Gillard wants to move forward from is the execution of Rudd. Hopefully we will se a double dissolution soon.

Howard's vision for Australia was actually much closer to what America is like than what Australia used to be, or what it ought to be, at least ideally. And howard never addresses the fact that Australia still has one of the highest poverty rates in the OECD, and after 3 terms of liberal government, one of the biggest wage gaps too.

I don't understand why people see Howard as a 'true Australian' when his policies actually destroyed many of the traditional structures and values of this country. It's amazing that he would constantly evoke the old Australia, but did everything in his power to smash old Australia; old Australian being A+R, trade unionism, communal values etc etc. Yes the world has changed, but trying to sneak in 'communal' values through the backdoor always struck me as fundamentally dishonest.
