It is also interesting to note the change of march steps/style at 2:57. The part prior to this is in 6 to 5, or 30 inch steps(between every five yards. After 2:57(with start to the I Believe In Music drill) the step two and circle drills are all in 8 to 2, 22 1/2 inch steps(count the steps between the five yard lines).
This used to be so commonplace, but many bands have sadly abandoned it.
(I am a former band director and marched in an outstanding Texas high School band)
This was from an long ago era, when the networks promoted the bands' performance with the SAME intensity that they did to the game. Football and Bands are so intertwined. Back then, the network broadcasted the ENTIRE halftime- no interruptions. I quit watching football on TV when the networks quit showing the bands Comment by the announcer,"Bands spend as much time preparing as the teams..."
You, my friend, have no idea the meaning of the term "foot and a half". And you never will. If you ever went to Tech, I should hope you wouldn't admit it here. The Goin Band has been what it is for 50 years, since Dean Killion made it into the band that marches today. I won't sit and let someone trash my school's Sudler Trophy winning band.

And when the cam and announcers intro'ed Dean...
