The Delta company as with all other's all make newer designs hundreds exist. this video is for the "Long loved Delta" original ball type faucet system. The dome nuts have an adjustment ring (all that I have ever seen) newer stuff might be for a different product by Delta. Just like a 68'Camero steering wheel does not fit a 12' Camero.
Please let me know if you find that you got the wrong par, or if the new part is indeed for the old classic and Delta has done away with the ring.
Thank God for this video. I live in a four-plex apartment with this style of Delta faucet. It's been leaking for months now, and the "plumbers" they send over to fix it have no idea what they are doing. The last guy just replaced the spout, and said it was fixed, even though it obviously wasn't. If I can figure out how to turn our water off, I may just try and fix it myself. What would I need in order to find the right repair kit? Would the knob itself do? Take it to a plumbing store?
Hi Greg, first thank you for the video - Excellent ! I can't get the Dome Ring off of the Delta. I tried PB Blaster Oil, tapping method, used a Irwin Channel Locks like you have, but the little ring will not turn. Maybe i need to tape it more? My fear is that i will break the little pipes inside the wall. Any other ideas on how to get this stuck ring off ? Thanks.
@brennanfl Yes, use a torch to heat the dome just the dome . not the body behind it. It will come off. I have never used a heat gun but one might work. 30 seconds with a torch and wa la! spins right off. Watch the vertical slot in the white plastic cam guide for handle stem to make sure it is not rotated from vertical just like in the middle picture above. Small gas torch will do it I promise.
@ramonasplumber Thanks Greg - the heat did the trick. It was funny though, after heating it, it would still not come off ! Then the next morning I tried again and she slipped right off. Weird !!
@ramonasplumber Yes, the rebuild went very well thanks to your video. The ball inside was cracked - Yikes ! I replaced it with the one you suggested, Stanless Steal. :-)
@brennanfl That is why I suggest Stainless Steel!, also that is the last Ball you will ever need. More tips exist on my site, stay ahead on the other issues.... Stay tuned (subscribe) we are going to do more.... Greg
@Rayman3424 I am with you, the trick is sometimes the plastic notch on Cam and the Brass body bind and you just push the assembly into valve body and it sticks in while you put the dome nut on. I use my finger on the stem while I spin the nut. I would not want to be watched by a customer while trying this, some times it is a real klutz. Greg Chick
I have 2 full baths in my house and the Delta valve in BOTH tubs dripped, I never thought how much water I was wasting until I put a bucket under then, they both had over a GALLON of water in less then 6 hours! I found this video, went to my local hardware store and got the replacement parts....no more leaky valves and no more paying for all the water that dripped! Thanks for the DIY video, made it so much easier!
Thank you so much! You just saved me a call to the landlord or hundreds to a plumber! It turns out I was putting the rubber/spring parts in backwards and that's why I wasn't getting a tight seal. Thank you again, I appreciate it so much!
@arcoira OMG, I'm sorry I was not clear on that, I am glad you told me about that, I may ad a note to the video that the Spring goes in first, then the Rubber Cup, then the Ball seals on the rubber cup with the spring pushing the cup.
@ramonasplumber No No you were totally clear! I was trying to do this for the past day BEFORE finding your video. I had been putting it in backwards until I saw your instructions! Thanks so much :)
I really learned so much from this video. Your attention to detail was great. My only thought -- and its a small one -- would have been to mention that really the springs and cups can go only in one way and I might have spent a minute on that. I looked at how you did it on the video.
One thing -- what model of showerhead were you repairing. It was the same as mine and I would like to reference it.
By the way, sure I'd spent a buck on downloading one of your videos. You saved my day.
@cgreenaway I hope to do more on different valves someday, and even charge a buck to download.... do you think if you would have seen a sample of the video, you would use Pay pal and paid a buck?
I just saved $300.00!!!!! The chrome collar was stuck and I mean stuck...tried many times in the past to loosen it. I just tapped all over it, soaked it down and tried an hour later, and it came off with channel locks. Replaced the seals and no more drips. Thanks!
Fantastic! This instructional video demonstrated exactly what was needed to fix my leaky Delta shower faucets. Thanks for the tips and tricks; they worked really well.
@wbee2601 What other plumbing things might you go online to learn? is all your Plumbing in top shape, or do you need to be pro active and maintain some other things? I am full of answers and still free. Greg Chick, A Trainer for Plumbers and others.
Do this first, yes a piece of debris could be in the valve body. When ball is out of body turn the water on and feel the flow of hot and cold water coming thru holes in body....Turn water heater down or do this when hot water temp in tank is safe to touch at full flow w/o mix down.
I have this delta faucet. The hot water flow is very weak. Cold flow is great. This started about a month ago. Will this procedure on the video clear the restriction or do you think it could be something else?
Great, wow $80 for a service call? here in So. Cal. its $200+ What state? glad to be of assistance. On my website I have Google ads on the sides of pages, click on one so I will get the points! Greg
Thanks a million! Between our unit and the rental unit next door, we have four of these Delta shower control heads. The addition of this video has really made my day after viewing Sea Foam video and buying it and tuning up my Nissan Frontier my weekend is complete. So concise and important information.
Is it possible to put the ball valve in upside down makeing hot the cold and cold the hot. thats how mine is now, just wondering if plumbing is reversed or ball could be reversed.
adjusting ring does not exist on newer replacement parts.
