Man that's sweet. When a car took talent to drive, lot going on in there when it's sliding around. Really cool lead sled man, have a toploader in my 69 cougar. It's half the car that is and still hard to make any time with in the corners. Doesn't stop a two ton car from dusting rice-grinders though!
Awesome car, and one of the best engines ever built by anyone! To clear up the arguments, the FE (Ford Engine) big block series included the 352, 360, 390, 406, 427, and 428 cubic inch displacement engines. The 64 Thunderbolt with dual 4 barrels on a 427 side oiler (not the SOHC), was the fastest production car ever built for a long time. Look it up. The 351M/400 was a boat anchor and worthless.
FE motors are the Big blocks.....so to speak.......then you had the Windsor blocks,Cleveland block, and the the Michigan block....as in 351-400M....now they have 4.6....weird stuff.....not to mention the Boss 429 and 427 SOHC beasts.but Ford had plenty of other Engines like the 272-292 -312-352.....then Windsors came out. 260 289 302 351. and some weird sizes from Edsel Mercury and Lincoln.....look up Ford engine families......
@jeepers2655 ....geez I forgot the 390 ,428`s and 429 SCJ engines.....Chevy has some Good ones too as well as Chrysler Corp.......been around most of them growing up.
@fordmanmudracer how dummie that is too a 427 and it is a big block dumbie ask any american muscle car person or look it up and it wont be in the small black thats for sure dumbie . so who the dumbass now?
@MrBrockberg excuse me, but we are talking about big block FORDS not CHEVYS. the CHEVY 427 is a big block, everyone knows that, but the FORD 427 is a small block, basically a bored 351 winsor
look at the video link /watch?v=b1KcpWEEChY so who is the dumbass now?
@fordmanmudracer ever hear of a 427 FE or Ford Edsel motor its a bored and stroked out 406 or the 427 side oiler aka the cammer ? last time i check that was before the 351w time period
@MrBrockberg everyone knows that a 390 is a small block, and you must be stupid besides retarded to think a 390 would possibly be a big block. if they were a big block, then they would use the same motor mounts as a 400/429/460/514, and they obviously do not, as i have 2 390 engines, and my cousin is doing a swap for a 460 from a 390, and he needs different mounts, so quit being an asshole and do your research
@fordmanmudracer maybe your right but then what this small block or big block? The smallest big-block Ford was the 332 of 331.8 cu in (5.4 L) actual engine displacement, with a 4.0 inches (101.60 mm) bore and 3.3 inches (83.82 mm) stroke. It was used in Ford-brand cars in 1958 and 1959, domestically-marketed U.S. and Canadian-built Edsel-brand cars in 1959, and in export-configured 1958 and 1959 Edsels.
@fordmanmudracer and we going by cubic inches or the size of the actual block? and the 390 a FE motor and the 460 is a 385 motor . thats 2 totally different engine familys. thats like comparing apples to oranges . The Ford 385 engine family (the name coming from the 3.85 inch crankshaft stroke of the 460 V8) was the Ford Motor Company's final big block V8 engine design, replacing the Ford MEL engine and gradually superseding the Ford FE engine family.
@fordmanmudracer why dont we just ask joberggmaybe he could shine a little light on this so it puts a end to it once and for all. .. im not saying your not right i just think that it gonna be a FE motor thats all
@MrBrockberg your right 390 /428 (each big block and same FE family) differant blocks than 429 460...429/460 were same 385 series blocks) 352 was considered big block which became the 400 later..but small block 351 w was same block as 302..but not same as 351C engine..
@Mintfooter The cleveland came first, then Ford wanted to use the block in trucks and passengers cars so the stroked it to 400 and changed the mains and ditched 4V heads. All this to make more torque at lower rpm's more suitable for a car/van/truck. Once the gas crunch hit they destroked the 400 back to 351. It was a modified 400 hence the name 351M.
@fordmanmudracer .heres some research.......where it says the 390 is definitely a BIG BLOCK..type in your search engine->is the ford 390 a big block....and one of the links that comes up tells of the engine history ....mtr mounts not same because its from a diff engine family....
@fordmanmudracer yes now a days do they make a 427 from a 351 block yes but this is the 60s and they had 427 in alot of racer cars and shit look up the 427 high riser or the thunderbolt which they put in to galaxies
nothing rapps and thumps like a big block.

@MrBrockberg if you want to get older than the windsor, you have to have older than 1962. (which, actually,FYI, is in the 60's!)

@fordmanmudracer thats def. a 1963-5 galaxie so it def. got a 427 init or possibly a 390 butstill neither considered a "small" block
