Romània...Latin country...nu russian(i cant speak english very good):))...Transylvania is in romania...we speak romanian...romania is a beautifull country,,,,but we dont have many...so:don`t visit romania!...we don`t have conditions...
vlad tepes was one of the greatest rullers in our history, thanks to him and many others we are now called romania. he was never feared by our people only loved, the only ones who feared him were his enemies(the turks). i .. we know this from history that he used to drink the enemies blood after splintering them(maybe one of the reasons why Bram Stoker character drinks blood) .. even so dracula it`s only fiction .. but good advertising for us :))
I can't agree - he was greatly feared and greatly admired, not so much loved. Westerners mostly don't know the truth about him (they just believe Brasovian and Hungarian propaganda) and don't understand the socio-historical context. He was a harsh man in harsh times doing the best he knew how to do and that deserves our respect. Maybe he is like Winston Churchill - Churchill also did many things we can now judge to be bad and wrong but at the time it seemed to be the best possible course.
I must say that I totally agree with toxicitzi. Although, not many things are known about Vlad II,so this might be a confusion, legends do not come from nowhere, as far as I think. Maybe Vlad Tepes was influenced by someone else on doing those atrocities.
oh yeah...im romanian i just see the movie and it rocks:X:X:X i loved it even it was a bit creepy vlad tepes it's the famous "dracula" vlad tepes(1456-1476) was an reigning at the romanian states. He was the nephew of Mircea cel batran( Mircea the old) (1386-1418) and the son of Vlad Dracul(Vlad the devil), Vlad Tepes wasn't a vampire... he was kill the bad people by splintering so here the name tepes( splinter) teapa=splint Hope this help you:)
What has Romanians contributed to history? NOTHING!
What are Romanians famous for in the world now? PROSTITUTION, gipsy romanian women with coloured blonde hair working for turkish or russian maffia satisfying tourists!
Ask any western european what they think about when they hear the word: Romanian!
I swear this is what they think Beggers, outside of malls...and prostitutes,,,blonding/colouri ng their hair, thats it..nothing more..nothing less!
BalkansEmperor if you ever was in Romania...just say me where and when did you saw that...i always thought that Turckey is a great country...with some great people...but know i am really dissapointed...you should better see HOW is YOUR COUNTRY....and maybe how are YOU exactly...and then talk stupid things about A WHOLE COUNTRY....and i really want you to say me what has TURCKEY contributed to history??....and you lie yourself saying you're not racist!! I just hate this people...
people should also be aware of the fact that Vlad Ţepeş was named Drăculea(Dracula) back then, not at this time. that means his name doesn't make refference to the devil, it make refference to the latin word, Draco, wich means Dragon. that's something to think about before flaming something you're not completely aware of. so as you see there wasn't anything evil in Vlads' name neither in his fathers' name, Vlad II, also named, Dracul
wow!I'm impressed! You did a really good job...I'm from romania and i can say no one finds vlad tepes evil, here. He did his best job to protect his country.Back then, fighting your enemies wasn't considered being "evil"...
I believe he also impaled them through different portions of their body. Some were impaled through their chests. I read that he was working on perfecting it. He knew how to kill them the slowest and the quickest. =)
He used blunt wood too sometimes so they didn't die too fast by being impaled.
The first pages Bram Stocker wrote of his legendary masterpice he wrote in Withby in England. He got inspired after witnessing a horrible shipwreck just outside the towns harbour. I went to Withby on a schooltrip many years ago, and I can fully understand that he found the place inspiring, with it's old english houses, the cliffs and the old cathedral ruin rising up in the background. The actually steps that Dracula was running up in the shape of a wolf is still there, and also the grave.
Just a quick comment " objective academic approach " is also comical , academical cliche , so it is important to show what evil really means in a historical context , so history will be just repeating facts without a point . This is what we study History for , to learn some lessons (or at least trying to) , otherwise we just crowd our minds with facts .
if u left a bag of values, like money or jewelery in d middle of d road, in VLAD TEPES'S times, no1 wud have touched it for fear of being impaled. that's pretty cool
in conclution vlad tepes aka vlad the impaler, was evil. Which is why Bram Stoker made Dracula evil. You forgotto mention that vlad tepes was also known as Dracula. and his father was named Dracul Dracula means the son of the dragon "the Devil"
To say simplistically "He was evil" is to see the world with a comic book mentality. In some ways he was a great hero, in other ways he did great harm to people. This video takes an objective academic approach which does not involve assigning emotive labels like "good guy - bad guy". Thanks for your comment.
