Oh my gosh thank you for this video series. I plan to make my own wedding cake in an effort to save money. Spent hours watching bad and unhelpful videos before stumbling upon yours. Once again thank you, I think you just saved me a few hundred dollars.

Thank you for sharing it with us. I guess you are not a professional chef but you did it great!!! Congrats!!! I didn;t know about the marshmallow fondant and I know it now!! I will go ahead and make my sons cake for less money!!
id hate to cook a cake with cat fur in the air but the cake is really cute im make a cake similar in october but im preparing for my moms bday party which is halloween and im doing a poker theme so imma make the cards and chips about a a day or two before i make so its easier and im making the marshmello fondant as well since its cheaper
@AdamHarveysMusic1 No, don't refrigerate the fondant cake. Cover it, and leave it in a cool area of your house. The problem with refrigeration is that the cake will form condensation when you bring it into room temperature air, and the water droplets will cause the surface of the fondant to become sticky and unappealing.
do i need a special type of roller to roll out the fondant or is a wood rolling pin ok? and when i do roll the fondant im suposed to use powderd (confectionary) sugar so it wont stick right?
@AdamHarveysMusic1 A normal rolling pin is fine. Use corn starch to prevent the fondant from sticking to your mat. If you don't have any, powdered sugar works too.
@bkraz333 thanks so much il probably just bake the cake on friday and put the fondant on on saturday , thanks so much for the advice, if you have any other tips just message me
for your cake not to break when its on a cooling tray put wax paper and well its fresh out the over dont leave it in the pan as long as the pan is hot the cake will continue to cook
hey im from new zealand and im going to make a cake for the first time for my daughters birthday and ummm my question is can i make a chocolate buttercream frosting instead of vanilla??
Instead of a can an upside down bowl works better to put underneath. As for the whip cream question you can use cool whip it stands up nicely to piping. I use it on cheescakes.
@JoycexSuJu Whipped cream is not strong enough or stable enough to use in place of the frosting. You should use buttercream frosting, or a commercially-made frosting.
@sammysam745 You could use any frosting that you want. Buttercream has a very nice consistency that is helpful for smoothing the cake and also tastes great.
Have you tried using a lazy susan as a rotating platform for the cake? May be cheaper than buying something commercially made for the purpose of decorating cakes. Sorry if this has been mentioned already.
Anyway, great videos! I want to see a S.E.M. image of some fondant...
this was the most helpfull video on you tube as im makin my cake for first time for a birthday. even though your not proffesionall but thats to new cake makers advantage because you explain step by step.... the proffessionals forget about the lil things so thanks for posting this
@beauty101115 Yes, someone else suggested freezing the cakes to make them easier to move. I haven't tried it, but it sounds like a good idea. I might be a little concerned about condensation forming on the cake after taking it out of the freezer.
@12345missy1 I am not sure. Butter sometimes turns more yellow when it gets old. I used fresh butter from Costco, white powedered sugar and even regular (brown) vanilla extract. It's slightly off-white.
hi, you did a great job!! I'm wanting to learn how to bake and decorate cakes, i have a question: When stacking a cake what is the purpose of using the cardboard between the layers? Do you have to use it? Thanks.
@amocha82 The cardboard keeps the tiers of the cake level, and prevents the cake from crushing itself under its own weight. I would recommend using cardboard, but for very firm, dense cakes, it may not be necessary.
@xoxouristaxoxo I sometimes use gel food coloring and sometimes liquid food coloring. Either way, coloring fondant can be a real pain. For these colors, I used a pea-sized amount of gel food coloring, and then a few drops of liquid. Someone suggested adding the coloring to the melted marshmallows before adding in the sugar. This sounds like a great idea (much easier than kneading the finished fondant), and I will try it next time.
@TheGogreen101 I can't guarantee your local Target will have a surface scraper, but they are fairly common. Order one off the internet or check your local Bed, Bath and Beyond, Target, Sears, etc.
so nice of you to post this tutorial for the rest of us

The cakes will be a lot easier to work with and move around if you saran wrap them and freeze them for a few hours before working with them.
