Overall, in my opinion Shadow is the most unoriginal Sonic character hands down. I think Big the Cat is a much better and original character than Shadow, and I'm not even kidding.

Until SA, all the games had this goofyness and colourful ambient (even in SA, Big the cat is a good example of this), but then suddenly they thought that Sonic games weren't cool enough and started to add dark stuff and complex stories.
