Probably or me one of the most perfect songs ever... Lyrics, melody, vocals, perfect... An anthem for all of us who have lost someone to cancer... Thanks Andy, RIP to all who have been taken from us by cancer
Here it is...the best Australian song ever written
Brod used to play regularly at the Clifton Hill Hotel in the early 90's and whenever he (sometimes reluctantly) played Ocean Deep it brought the house down. Great song, great rendition
Can't Brodrick Smith sing, damn he's got a voice and a half. One of the tragedies of Oz rock is that he never got the coverage he deserved while lesser talents did ,sorry Barnsie fans but he screams while this guys sings tears into your heart when he has the right song as a platform.
Dingoes, what a band and yes this was a good concert, with Clapton and the first lead guitarist from Little River Band, Rick..damn his surnames slipped my mind but he did the leads on the first two LRB albums)
@culmie I saw the Brodrick Smith big combo play on the Northern Beaches, one of the best Vocalists and bands ivé seen and ivé seen Eric Burden. Same level no risk..
A beautiful haunting song that can be interpreted on a literal or metaphorical level. Particularly considering it was written by a man who knew that he was dying.
Although I hope that it's a long time away I've requested that this song be played at my funeral.
I have the double vynil Andy Durant Memorial Concert album,,,or is that Vinyl?,,, who cares,,,Ive got it,,, and Its one of the best albums Ive heard in my life
I saw the AD concert on tv yesterday & when they started playing this song I knew it from start to finish. I haven't heard it for almost 30 years but it's never left me. Great song & performance - very moving.
I first heard this as a kid of 16, maybe 10 years later I heard it on LP at a friends place, I've been looking for it ever since. Thanks for putting this up, you made my year,
I've got this on DVD. I first saw this clip on Donny Sutherlands " Sounds Unlimited. " Until recently, it has only been available on CD. All the songs are of the highest quality. My father died of Cancer and so did Andy. Make sure you read the lyrics to Ocean Deep. It's Andy's thoughts as he faces death. It's very moving stuff. Brod Smith confirms in singing this song, he is one of our greatest singers in OZ.
The writting of the song is a story of great mateship.. There are of course several guitars providing highlights the core progression is E, Emaj7, D, A.. (let the B & E Strings ring open) The vocal provides a counterpoint sung over the Chromatic movement spelled out on the G string.. Haunting.. If that doesn't move you, you've got no soul.. RIP Andy!
This is a great song, great concert in fact... Brod Smiths Vocals are fantastic... To think this song was written by andy durant on his death bed... Fucking amazing
It was Andy's goodbye and the last piece he ever wrote, he actually didnt get a chance to finish it, Mal Eastick finished it off for his best friend. Mal's band still performs this song regularly, he chokes back tears every time he plays it even after all these years.
