@ xanderluv Mayberry is a made up town with a very low population. I guess since it was a very low population, people the citizens of Mayberry didn't mind being in the paper. Times were way different then too lol
One thing I miss about the 1960's is that half hour TV shows lasted 26 minutes with just four minutes of commercials! Nowadays, it's just 21 minutes of a TV show and 9 minutes of annoying, mind-numbing, asinine commercials!
Man oh man do I wish America was still like this, real women that cooked on a real stove, people so very nice to each other and so proper and considerate. Getting together on the porch after a good dinner to talk. Its all just so sad to know its all gone.
Floyd the Barber (as he was commonly known) was the slow-paced, somewhat absent-minded barber in the fictional town of Mayberry. He was first seen in episode #12, "Stranger in Town," where he was played by actor Walter Baldwin.Baldwin portrayed Floyd for just one episode; from 1961 on, the part was played by Howard McNear, the actor most commonly associated with the roleHoward McNear's health worsened and he wasn't able to return to the show for season 8, and he died less than a year later.
i know its a show but if the whole town wonders how the stanger knows everyone why did'nt they just ASK him how he knows so much instead of just going around following him being so suspicious
it was the first appearance of Floyd on the series they didn't like this guy and then they cast the real Floyd.
They loved him as much as we did and when the actor had a bad stroke and lost some motor function they made sure his parts were filmed sitting down so they could keep him.
@GAbug81 thanks! they had two mayors to. maybe same thing happened there as to why they got rid of the first one. the black and white episodes are great. when they went to color and Barney left the show really went downhill. though not in the ratings. thanks for the info
Ellie (Elinor Donahue) left the show because she and Andy weren't hitting it off and the relationship didn't look believable they did have almost a 10 year age gap and she did looked too young for him
I always like the nurse and the shooter better they had more personality then Helen and Ellie
@GAbug81 thanks. Andy`s taste in women definitely left something to be desired! I liked Barney`s gal Thelma. the shooter was to macho for me. thanks for all the info! much appreciated!
@coolanddark no dummy, notice that this is the 1st season episode 12, this was "the real floyd". Something must of happened during season 1 maybe they didnt like this floyd or maybe he decided not to do the part. The new floyd was introduced somewhere towards the end of this season and he played all the way to season 7. While in season 7 he had a stroke so they didnt keep him for the final season. Since they didnt have a floyd they created emmett's fix it shop to replace floyd's barber shop.
@michaeljustussvcc you may be right that this was the original floyd, but he's not the distinctive character floyd everyone remembers. so to me, this is not the "real floyd"
@michaeljustussvcc absolutely. Howard McNear is the real Floyd. Just some interesting trivia, the real life Floyd was inspired by a barber in Mt. Airy who actually cut Andy's hair and he was still cutting hair in 2010

@bluecatky True but without commercials we wouldn't have TV in the first place.

@bluecatky True. Also these days we pay a cable company to watch TV. In those days those 4 ads payed for all. Watching TV was free to the people.

@GAbug81 thanks! why did Ellie May Walker and Ben Weaver leave the show?
coolanddark 5 months ago
@coolanddark
Well Ben Weaver (Will Wright) died in 1962
Ellie (Elinor Donahue) left the show because she and Andy weren't hitting it off and the relationship didn't look believable they did have almost a 10 year age gap and she did looked too young for him
