I doubt that. Archer is made difrent kinda use... if you want to use artillery in mountains then you cant use Archers because it's too big.

In narrow mountain roads self-prolled howitzers aren't in their best.

The Archer or FH77 may be very mobile especially regarding airlift capability, but mounted on a truck, they are also very vulnerable!

An armored tracked selfprop howitzer would be in advantage in longer active combat situations (front being pushed forward)-

whereas in time of quickly needed fire support (auxiliary role) in a far away areas, the truck mounted gun is better, WHEN designated area is held by OWN troops and without any sign of resistance!

The threat against artillery pieces are mainly shrapnel and the Archer does that just as well, or better, than heavier vehicles.

How long does it take to start a fire strike and leave... . This also is a comparison- the avoidance of enemy striking back.

Field artillery is definately out- not state of the art.

Bofors makes the best guns.(40 mm AA in WWII). The bofors ended up the last man standing yet again like in 2001 (well the haubits 77A beat the shit out of all more recent competitors then)

Where it falls short is the reputation of the company's past and ofcourse that of the our Govt- bunch of p*ssies). Kargil would be a more difficult win without the 77A. The gun is not at fault , its the people who are involved . Dig deeper and get hold of some political b*lls!
