well XD.. do you use the windows API? DirectX? SDL?.. you must create a kernel to make it bootable.. your os is dependent on windows (vista in this case, I bet ;) )

so far it isn't an Operating System (OS) because it doesn't operate. it is a Desktop-file manager, sorry.. but looks quite good ;) could be useful for sorting your application data or pictures/videos etc.

Yeah, it's ok to make an OS in VB (I'm a VB programmer myself), but can someone help me with this problem:

My boot1.asm i need to compile to a 512 bit .bin file, i'm using the program RosBE and cmd promth,

cd C:\Program Files\RosBE\i386\bin\

nasm -f bin boot1.asm -o boot1.bin

This just don't work :/

nasm compiles to bin by default now. nasm boot1.asm will work just fine, it will create a file called boot1, which you can write to the 0 sector of say.. a floppy drive.

I don't want to ruin your dream but you cant really make the OS in vb, unless you write a whole kernel (in a proper language like C) below it, which fully supports the windows API calls that a vb app makes... It also requires a lot of knowledge on how windows actually loads exe's and dll's.. that is not the way to go.. sorry :P

Hehe, no i ain't making this in VB neither, but in C++ and Assembly language though i ain't working on it right now.

then still, to get your vb-made gui running will require a lot more then you think from you and your kernel... basicly full windows emulation.. something that took the wine dev team quite a long time

Lol, you go picture options, and find the magic wand type thing, then you click it then click the white spot. Make sure your icon has no other white in it (such as eyeballs)

an os deals directly with the hardware all this is doing is telling the real os what to do and in turn show it in the shell.
