  • @pathu4444 It seems that this song has different meanings to different people who listen to it. Its a strange story for sure.

  • Beautiful pictures! Thank you. :)

  • @AlleyCatJoel Well, according to the lyrics, she turns into a swan type creature who still looks like a lady. The millers daughter finds her drowned and shows her to her father. Then a harper makes a harp out of her and as a harp she comes alive and tells every one what her sister did. Strange story.

  • Ummm.....the lyrics here are all screwed up!

  • @1KatrionaSolas How do you mean the lyrics are screwed up? The written words are exactly the same as in the song. The words are printed on my Loreena McKennitt CD that this song came off of. I shared them here along with the song.

  • @1KatrionaSolas As with many oral traditions, over time, the story is passed down differently, being tweaked here and there by different generations. So, it starts off as 2 farmer's daughters walking along a river. The eldest wants the love of her younger sister's lover, so she drowns her to gain him. In Celtic stories, there is often shape-shifting and interaction between this world and the otherworld.

  • @1KatrionaSolas Sorry, ran out of characters. So she comes back, shape-shifted, as a swan, then a harp, to her father's hall (yes, the story changed to her family being royal), I think to tell her story and accuse her sister of murder. But we don't find out if they understood her, as a harp playing her song, or what happened to her sister.

  • this is beautiful, the song as well as the vid!

what are the pics at 0:31 and 0:47?

  • @Leyuann Do you mean what are the pictures about? I'm not sure. They are artists depictions I found on Deviant Art Web site. There are some really talented artists on that web site that do fantastic art work with their computers. I'm glad you enjoyed my video and thanks for taking the time to let me know you did.

  • @batlady2 thanks for replying!

i was just wondering if you had the title or name of the artist for those pics, so i'm gonna have a look at that website you mentioned! thanks!

  • @Leyuann This was one of my first videos. I was not keeping very good track of the exact artist names of the images then. I try harder to do so now. But if you go to Deviant Art Web site use their digital art section first and type in all sorts of terms for swans and fairies and also the term "Bonny Swans" in their search tool and hopefully these same images will all come up for you. If not, well, you will see all sorts of other great art in their while you're looking. Good luck and enjoy!

  • @batlady2 @batlady2 thanks for replying!

btw, rented the album today, the one which has this song in it =)

  • THIS is real music, THIS is real passion, not such a today´s crap like Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga or all the other untalented guys.

  • @Frildo17 Loreena's music is a God send for sure! What a gift. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

  • A lovely suitable montage for a song I have listened to for years and had absolutely no IDEA what it was about. I greatly appreciate the Lyrics section on your channel. Loreena holds special memories for me because I found her 14 years ago when I was pregnant with my Little red headed baby girl. Looking forward to viewing your other creations when time permits. Thank you very much.

  • @franciedee Thank you very much for your helpful and positive feed back about my video and for taking the time to tell me how much and why you liked it!

  • @dayeshadow1 Gosh what a nice compliment. Thank you so much! This video was one of my earlier ones when I was still first learning. I've managed to improve some since then. I had not yet learned how to slow down the transfers from one pic to the next on this one but since have learned. Go to my channel and look up to the right and see 3 play lists of mine. Choose the one titled peace and meditation vids. It will open. I think you might like my vids in that play list. I hope so any way.

  • Thank you for posting this! So haunting, it's one of my favorites. They don't have this song on Rhapsody. Great imagery, too. Thanks again!!

  • @debmoritz You are welcome and thank you for taking the time to tell me how much you liked it.

  • stunning, breath taking. amazing says it all really#

  • @02nrlp Thank you for telling me how much you liked it!

  • Lyrics? Where are they?

  • @KickerDC Under the video screen where you see the words "show more" then two arrows pointing down. Click on that and it opens the box and thats where the lyrics are.

  • Sorry, lots of white but I can't see any lyrics ??

  • @MrJuno6 Under the video screen where it says "show more" and next to it are two arrows pointing down. You click on that and the box opens up larger and the lyrics are in there.

  • I am depressed now. I loved the song when I didnt read into the lyrics intensely. Now that I know the story behind it, I will never see this song the same way again.

  • @sadguyfoundout1 Ahh I'm sorry sadguy. But remember its only a story. I think a really old one too. And in the end the guilty parties crimes were all exposed to all by the victim herself.

  • @batlady2 you made a sadguy depressed!!! :(((((( :P its ok ive gotten over it! This song is so amazing. Reminds me of a time I met a guy who made me feel good inside. kinda like happy memories.

  • @sadguyfoundout1 Thats good then. I don't want my peace and mediation videos making any one feel bad. I love any song Loreena McKennitt sings. Every song she sings reminds me of castles and knights.

  • Who wouldn't drown a sister for the sake of a man?

  • @segismundo77 Ha ha ha! Depends on the sister. Or even more... depends on the man!

  • @batlady2 agreed, haha!

  • Comment removed

  • So.. what is the ending??

  • @Elranee520 From what I can tell by the words of the song she was turned into a harp. She sang out the names of her family and told them that her sister drowned her. She, in the form of the harp, sang this in front of her father the king. Thats what the words say any way. Thats all there is to the story according to the song. If you click on the arrows that point down in the info box directly under the video, the box will open up and the words to the song are there.

  • only one thing you write in the lyrics The eldest pushed the youngest in... wellthe songs says the opposite

  • @DragonofShu Hmmm well I got the lyrics from the CD itself. Its the from her Album "The Mask and Mirror". It came with an in cert that had the words to all the songs on the CD. In the first paragraph of the song it says the eldest pushed the youngest in. I listened to the song again and that is what she sings in the song. The eldest pushed the youngest in. Just like the words say.

  • Seriously IT says the youngest pushed the eldest in. Peopel of youtube...you who hear teh soong hear it what doe sit say? TI cxertainly says so..well no big differnce fi ti says the younget or thje eldest but I'm positive that this it

  • @DragonofShu What ever does it for ya Dragon. I'm not about to get into an argument over it. Even though Youtube arguments are entertaining to watch.

  • I guess... well I wasnot feelign like it either

  • my fave loreena song......lovely done! and thanx for the story...didn't know!

    X

  • @AlouaisA Thank you for your nice comments and I'm glad you liked it.

  • really nice vid. i would have never understooded it without lyrics. i loved the metaphoric story. and of course, lorenna is amazing.

    a fan from romania

  • @corina1036 Thank you for taking the time to comment. And yes Loreena is amazing. I LOVE her music too! And please say hi to all in Romania! No matter how far a part we all live music always brings us together. THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE!

  • Where are the lyrics? :(

    ¡Saludos! :)

  • @MaynorJ Look right under the video screen for the information box thats right under the sign that says "this video is public". Then see the arrows pointing down and click on that and the info box will open up and there are the lyrics. See where it says "these images are from photo bucket". Click on the arrows that point down next to that.

  • You did a good job. Just one thing though, the maiden didn't come back as a swan. Her body was floating in the river and the Miller's daughter only mistook her for a swan (I imagine the miller's daughter was very young and very imaginative). The only reason I say this was because the maiden was human when the Harper made the harp from her body. And it doesn't seem to make sense that she was human, then a swan then human again then a harp. Makes the story a little too busy, ya know?

  • @PixieSpells Hi Pixie! You're probably right. I don't really know the original story. But I am sure learning since I made this video. (grin)

  • bat i owe you a bow this was an incredible great video and fit so perfectly with her song and tempo....i loved those images!!! just soo awesome!

  • @peanuts8 Its comments like these that are the icing on the cake for me when it comes to making these music videos. I'm only the match maker though. I just match up the art and the music. But when the end results gives people a happy experience when they watch it then I've achieved what i set out to do. This was one of my first videos so the picture transfers went to fast. I like to think I've gotten better since then. Thank you so much peanuts for such a nice compliment.

  • I think people like you add beauty to the world through a very creative soul. It is important that you keep on working on this talent / gift you have. It does not only inspire others but it is also very soothing for the innerself. Great music, beautiful art work. Two thumbs way up!!!!!!! God bless you and I hope to see more of your creations soon!!!!!!

  • @solfusilier Thank you so much for taking the time to say such positive things about my videos. But really its the artists who make the music and poetry and who capture and paint the images I use in my videos that are the real talent here. All I do is celebrate the artists by combining them together. I just use my computer and copy and paste. I thank them for sharing their gifts with me and with all of us. Most of the images I use come from the gifted artists of Deviant Art web site.

  • It is beautiiful!!!! I think you are very creative. Great job!!!!!

  • @solfusilier Thank you very much for taking the time to tell me you liked my video!

  • this song is so cool i love it much

  • @TRINIDERON Glad you enjoyed it. This was one of the first videos I made and uploaded in here. I wish now that I had waited till I had more experience because I could have made it better. My transistions are to fast in this one. The crossovers from picture to picture should be much slower. This song is lovely. Its been up loaded on YT a bunch of times.

  • 2 The harp player brings the harp to the King, and the youngest princess gets to play music for her family - does she say words or music?? That's what I can't figure out. I hope she called her sister Anne out on the crime.

  • @loverlyluffgusms well, I never thought about that until you mentioned it here. It must be that her voice also came through singing along with the strumming harp strings. (smile) perhaps the author of the song just wants us to draw our own conclusions.

  • So, I'm trying to figure out what the song is about exactly. I think the sisters are princesses and they're in love with the same man, so the older drowns the younger. The younger sister gets pulled out (dead) by millers down the river, and then a harp player makes a harp out of her body parts. Her soul is in the harp, because the harp plays by itself.

  • @loverlyluffgusms That's essentially correct yes. You may be interested to know that this is actually a very old song, the oldest known version dates back to the 1650s. This particular one is a mixture of several different version of the legend.

  • @loverlyluffgusms I don't know... First, there is said that the girls are the daughters of a farmer. And, she was a swan when she came at the miler's dam, but indeed the harper seem to have made the harp out of her human body parts, like her golden hair. But wouldn't that be a bit cruel, making a harp out of a dead girl? So he could have made the harp out of the swan, but swans don't have golden hair... So I don't know...

    Great song this! <3

  • love this song

  • this was my first favorite song ever. my dad played it on his stereo when i was 3 - and i ALWAYS called it "favorite song" and always wanted him to play it. mmmm. still my favorite. :)

  • I'm glad you love this song and its been up loaded on Youtube a bunch of times so you can watch and listen to it in here when ever you want to. This was one of my first vid montages I made. I had not learned how to slow down the transistions yet. One picture fading into the next. In this vid the pictures fade into each other to fast. I've learned to be better at it since then. But still need more practice.

  • wow, i didnt even the right words, my mom loves this song, she had this cd since i was very young & i thought i knew wat it was saying, but i didnt, thnx u helped me alot lol
