  • @voodoobram you have to flip the normals dude. Or recalculate them.

  • is it known the name of the idiot that has invented this shit of a procedure ?

  • omg, you are using 2.49!

  • i got a problem im uv maping a human and im had some problems later i disidet to select only the front half of the toso and legs and click unrap, and i notest that it whas textering the incide of the model have you got any idea what to do?

thanks for you tut by the way it good

  • Wow - thanks for finally explaining Blender's psychotic-break-inducing texture and image organization scheme! Everyone else seems to think this stuff is intuitive and just skips right to UV mapping - which turns out to be the easy bit...

  • This was GREAT. I didnt really get what info i wanted from all the other tutorials, but this one helps me ALOT. THANKS for making this dude.

  • Thank you so much, I was so ready to bash head first into a 3D wall over this UV mapping thing for Second Life... ugh you made it a lot easier... now lets see if i can actually do it too....

  • Thank you, this is exactly what I wanted! UV mapping seemed like the dark arts for me, but it's all clear now :D

  • great help, thanks

  • Darrin really appreciate you doing this, thank you :) Great explanation, you make it simple and clear, for something that is not at all simple or clear. Thanks again.

  • So is this still how you do it in Blender 2.5?.... That is to say ... Do you still Create a Base Material that selects "everything" in 2.5?... I don't ever seem to have a problem with separating out Materials in 2.5 ... but then I am just now getting around to trying to figure out how to do UVmapping in blender...

  • PLease help me, I have a UV texture I downloaded, but have no idea how to place it on my model its in a bunch of textures in side one image!!! how do I take out each texture and put it on my model!!!

  • Thanks kindly, but also, Blender needs to do some usability design. Seriously. This is confoundingly, unnecessarily complex. You have to type in the names of the textures? What is this? 2002?

  • This is kind of difficult since I don't know what buttons you are pressing..

  • I'm watching this every time i do UV Mapping :P

  • I'm only 42sec into your tutorial and i think i love you! I will just die if this tut is shitty though =) I just need a freakin foundation to build off of. Thanks man for the vid.

  • Uhm,

You could likely turn water into wine my friend...

    Honestly, thank you so much!

I've been trying to figure this all out for about a week now. Various tutorials, so many different opinions. But your 10 minutes, got me on the right track in exactly that! 10 minutes.

  • Thanks man.

  • does anyone know how to export the UV coordinates as well?

if, the x,y coordinates of the UV texture defining where vertices have been assigned to.

The reason is blender can make an OFF file with vertices coordinates, this can be used on openGL, but if you want a texture too, then you need UV coordinates as-well as the texture file.

  • I have been searching for tutorials for hours and i finally found this one that worked out for me, thanks!

  • BLENDER ARTISTS ARE THE BEST PEOPLE

  • Thanks guy... new to blender but not to 3D progs (LW, XSI,Maya,etc..)

so this got me up and moving with textures in B253...

  • @RamTortoise In the UV Image Editor, click the UV menu, then Scripts, the Save UV Face Layout

  • Thanx for this. Really appreciate the tutorial.

  • Good presentation. I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this. :-)

  • how did you get all the options, i dont seem to have any of them, it seems to be hidden somewhere and i cant find them, please help!

  • @lejj2006 Many of the buttons on the various panels are "context sensitive," so you may not see them until you select the polygons you want to UV map. And texture buttons on the texture panel you may not see until you select a texture. Also, I like to keep several button panels open. One for the Editing panel (F9), one for Shading (F5), and one for Textures (F5).

  • You have made a great tutorial!

This was the best explanation of how UV mapping works that i ever seen!

  • Very good instruction Darrin!

  • Love your tuts. and enjoy your style. Keep up the good work.

  • helpful - thanks.
