@helen1434 Some horses are just more responsive that others. I had a horse that would go forward when you just squeezed your legs, and another who I rode you had to kick him hard and use a whip just to make him move. So it depends on the horse.

NBHA's 1D 2009 winner has a 14 second time because they have a normal pattern because the NBHA rules state the minimum size of the pattern and any real barrel run or association would be following NBHA rules. the pattern yall run is prolly a little peewee barrels in a local association. I do NBHA teen qualifiers

most barrel horses are quarter horses and paints because they are the fastest horses at getting up to speed in a few seconds. any horse can run them, but they may not be fast enough to compete.

Unless you are a barrel racer you probably have no idea what the heck your talkin bout. its hard you can die like eny other sport you put yourself on the line its one of the best feelings there is i know my 9yr old spunky quarter horse dustyroo gets hiped up. and ive been traning for almost 12 years for a 15.005 run. its not easy and dont let no stupid english rider tell you it not (love the vid)

this is th perfect song for a barrel racing video!! i loved it, i had tht little tinggling feeling in my stomach tht i get right before i barrel race somewhere.

i was reading some of the other comments about th spurs thing and spurs were originally made for turning but now some barrel racers use them for speed which is th wrong way to use them. spurs r VERY helpful in turning and r NOT against th rules to use them so it's not cheating.

How the hell are you girls getting 8-7 seconds ? Must be a hella small pattern because here in Oklahoma the fastest you will see is a 13 seconds. & that is a very small pattern. But a standard pattern they run about 15-16's.

I love how every barre horse I've seen is hot and spunky and mine is just this lazy paint. Haha but when you get in the ring he's gonna run and there isn't much you can do about it! I remember almost a decade ago in my first barrel race when I was still in the PeeWee division he took off with me and it was everything I could do to keep him from running before the flag dropped :)

how far apart were the barrels? because thats almost impossible.

Some of our racers run 9 second times on a fairly small pattern. But yeah, it must've been tiny to hack off that much time.
