I loved the dark atmosphere and humour, the chilly jazzy soundtrack and the uncomparable beauty of Françoise Dorleac. Polanski will always remain one of my favourite directors.
In 1999 I made a special detour, after visiting friends in Ullapool Scotland, to see this castle 'Rob Roy' Lindisfarne island North Humberland only because I saw the movie! It was splendid to walk around the castle and I spoke to a guard who worked there at the time the movie was shot there. He told me that they had to put a candle in the fridge because there was no electric power at that time in the castle!!! You see George open the fridge to take a lot of eggs: the small light is faked :-))
I love how the arty-farty style of the movie, reminiscent of so many other movies, is high-jacked by the crass old criminal. Its a truly great comedy. Donald's character's sad life is liberated in such a dead-end way from the dead end lie he has been living. I don't like too many Polanski movies, but this is an all time favourite of mine.
this movie is so timeless - even Polanski fell into a trap of cul-de-sac, I wish he finally makes a contrition and liberates himself from the fate which has never spared him
My favourite movie ever. I repeat: MY FAVOURITE MOVIE EVER!!!!! PERIOD!!

Françoise Dorléac was even better and sexier than her sister, Catherine Deneuve. I Absolutely adore Françoise. Soooooooooo beautiful!!!!

The movie ist absolut fantastisch !
