  • man i played this for hours...lol old times...great moments...and here was beginning everything

  • Comment removed

  • It's better than the PC version.

  • And it runs way better than some 16-bit ports of the game.

  • ...

What can I say? It's Prince of Persia. Admirable port.

  • This version is based on advanced russian spectrum clones that can use up to 1mb of memory....

  • too good to be true!

  • I dont like this game... This game is one of the first where the gameplay is bad, but bacause the good animations most of the people thinks it is a good game...

  • @gombabacsi U actually played this on spectrum. How can u say gameplay is bad, please elaborate or compare it to the Apple II classic from mid 80s.

  • @gombabacsi you were spot on there!

  • I don't understand?!!? They've shown a fully working version CAN be possible on the good old spectrum 128k. But it was never released back in the early 90s?!? I would've loved to have played this on the speccy back in those days. such a pity.

  • @adamwba1979 no it's an unofficial version. it was programmed by Nicodin, a East Europe group, years after commercial life of Spectrum, in 1997 i remember. it's based on Amiga version. In fact, there was an official version but it neve hit the streets

  • @adamwba1979 There was an amstrad cpc 6128 commercial version with Z80 , i bet they just get the cpc version and kept the z80 code

  • @ploumploumify no cpc+ version then?

  • great looking game for the speccy

  • Wow! I never had this game, but that is one of the most advanced sprites I've ever seen on the Spectrum. It pretty much makes me think that the Flashback game on the Mega Drive used a similar idea from this game.

  • @Pilot177013 this is the original Prince Of Persia, man!!!

  • this was good for a speccy game

  • This seems faster than the original PC version

  • @CoolDudeClem sam coupe version ?

  • Well, ok, thats fine mate, than i think for you its more a matter of taste than quality. Other, i really have a bit of problem understandin ur grammar. Do i?

  • mmm.. this version is better than the old pc version... and the man move very good "usually zx men move very bad"

  • i dont think it looks better than the PC version, man u shouldv had a very bad PC(+ i really love spectrum), and the animation of the spectrum characters, was in that time mostly better than in C64 versions.

  • check the old pc version and who move better, pc or zx?

  • For real?? Frame by frame i think the animation is exactly the same on both versions, only the pc version has richer colours. Personally i liked the Atari ST version most graphically.

  • sorry, im not agree with you. zx maked this game better too if zx had colors problem and no was maked for games

  • i cant believe how smooth they got EVERYTHING to run on a speccy , if only they would make more ports of games.

    how utterly amazing.

  • Never had it. Looks Great.

  • in fact is an unofficial version made by an easter european group and based on Amiga computer

  • @kalateur

I know the man who made it. He lives in Yaroslavl, Russia and his nickname is Nicodim. He made it alone, not a group. When I asked him about how he has drawn this animation he told me that he has put a transparent paper on the screen of PC and then split it with squares which he then redraw on speccy.

  • @vladdrummer what is he working on now?

  • @rogerjowett I don't think he's working on something like that. I've seen him about 10+ years ago.

  • The Character animation is just like the 16 bit flashback game, V nice for the speccy

  • This game was SO EFFING good ^^

  • Despite the poor color in this game, I really like the animation. It almost makes up for the lack of color. The man sprite is really well done with good gestures and exaggerated moves. I love it!

  • I remember back in the days most of the big releases were on Amiga, Atari and Spectrum. Even Lemmings was a Speccy game.

  • Are you sure this is genuine, and not the Russian clone that was actually too powerful for official spectrums to run?

  • Actually it's Russian clone of this game, inspired on Amiga version. There wasn't official release(i've only several screens). But it's not necessary a russian computer. This video is based on a .tap version where u can run from emulator just selecting 128k model :)

  • COOOOL

there have been quite 'few' years since I played on my old 8-bits!! what an amazing port, those guys really know what they do,

    tnx for upload it !

  • Does the zx spectrum version has only one level?

  • it has all levels. i've just upload it level one for showing

  • Amazing game! Thanks!

  • so u played as a weird pregnant man? :D

  • "Dizzy" was better, he ruled!!

  • looks very smoothe movement.. spectrum rocks

  • Great port ! and ith only 128kb .... (i guess it's the 128k and not the 48k version because of the sound chip).

  • Still looks incredible.

  • a great game port

  • prince of persia had the best animation and I remember it took me some nights to finish it

  • i played with cousin's pc version and at the night i dream about the game, jumping, fighting (with 256 colors in my mind :D )

  • yeah, i remember reading english magazines(crash) with screenshots of SamCoupe's PoP. it was a big game for this platform.

  • Wow, the animation is better than I would have guessed.

  • the first time i saw this game i was shocked about the same too

  • How the chips did the spectrum actually run the game - very impressive.

  • Des bons souvenirs ! :)

  • good memories =)

  • It's the bulgarian version, right?

  • no, it's russian version. published at 1995 as world of spectrum says

  • So would I be able to buy a copy from Ebay or something or would it be to limited?

  • How is that ? Has ever 8bit version of PoP been released ?

  • only amstrad CPC (at it's time) this version it's not official

  • It's an inofficial port by russian enthusiast programmers.

  • @kokopiko

sam coupe version was also 8 bit but 24kb screen so little slower but more colourful

  • i like your fighting technique. thats quite some skill there..

  • yes, i have to press "space" repeately :D

  • is this the original version? or is it pc? (love the sound on this clip) heh

  • actually is not an oficial version. It was programmed by eastern Europe group(sorry i dont remember its name) and it's based on Amiga version

  • Definetly a great programming effot but I never really liked the game to begin with. Same with Sim City but fitting that onto 128k was just phenomenal!

  • when sim city was programmed for Spectrum, i've thought to myself : "if this is possible on Speccy, then all is possible"

  • i had this for the speccy, i was shit at it though, but then again i was only a young pup

  • usually i played pc version at cousin's house. My jump no was the best(almos time falling right to the needles ;-) )

  • Crazy, it wasn't released on the C64.

  • @samwyse2006 or commodore 128 or atari vbxe or msx turboR vdp9990 cpc+ - scrolling and sprites all it is...

  • Apparently the main game sprite was a movie sequence the programmer took of his nephew in pyjamas. Nice looking adaptation, but I wouldn't want to sit through the multiload.

  • actually it's based on Amiga Version

  • Yeah thats true, he used rotoscoping to do so.

  • Great stuff.

  • yes!!

  • amazing game. great to see it on the spec

  • Yes, one of the best games developed for this machine

  • funny to think you could have done it in 1980 if only youd thought of it

  • good point. The same with games like Exolon, Zynaps, Three Weeks in Paradise...

  • Wowzers! Guess they're still working on the sound tho'.

  • Holy Jumping Dizzy on a Pogo Stick! It's Prince Persia on the Speccy! My regards and heartfelt pozdravleniya to the author! I can still remember the years I spent wishing for my trusty sinclair clone to play that game, fueled by the rumors that there was indeed a port in the more enlightened parts of the world, unckracked by the illustrious Bill Gilbert...Sigh. The Spectrum scene lives on.
