the 07 shelby is way overpriced for the performance...you can pick up a 03 cobra for 20k$ put a kenne bell with 17lbs of boost and put a dvd nav in there and still have 10K$ left over...makes no sense to go out and buy an 07 to me.

Purchasing a car isnt always about which is faster for the money, the 07 platform is better in almost every way....exterior, interior, chassi, etc it comes down to what "you" deem worth the money, GT500 is a very sweet ride.

Stock vs stock, theShelby won w/ exception of 60ft,, with equal mods( CAI pulley and tune) the Shelby was faster in qtr mile and et significantly . They said it was the fact that the Shelby had the 5.4 compard to 4.6 and only 220 lb diffrence. The Shelby was the better , faster machine.

nah, i think the think that really kills the shelby is shitty suspension and crappy tires that are just to small for all that power. the damn super snake has over 700 horses and still cant make it under a 4 sec 0 to 60 time.
@secondbest1337 actually the cobras curb weight is about 3700 and the 2011 gt500 is about 3800, 3920 for the iron blocked 2007-2010. The gt's, 99-01 cobras of the old body style were lighter around 3200-3400, the terminators were quite a bit heavier.

03 04 cobras are much better. they have true forged h beam connecting rods while ther gt500 only has "craked" forged pieces....not true forgings. the rods are the weak point in the gt500 engine. its limit is like 750-800 hp while the cobra can be taken to over 1000. plus the cobra looks awesome
youve seen the new gt500's from 2010 broken down already..im hoping tat theyve corrected this since the cars have all been re-designed. or is it just a body makeover?? im not exactly sure about that and would love for you to search and let the people here know. this will be a popular thread for this page of comments.
not the new 2010 gt500s but the ones up to 09 have. the 2010s have the same carry over engine with a better tune :540 hp vs 500hp. yes its just a body make over. its not that they have anything to correct as it wasnt a flaw. its just that the rods in the 03 04 cobra can withstand more abuse. the only major redesigns for the 2010 model was the suspension tuning and different spaced gearing in the tranny. its not that thyre bad motors but if you up the hp like the cobras did then they can break
I still would rather get the 03-04 cobra, you can do as little as changing the intake and pulleys and gain a whole lot of hp just by doing that. That engine has alot of potential and as for the gt500 well i with one fo the comments here youll just be paying for the name in which cost more then the cobras and not to mention more heavier... ford should of just continued from where they left off in 04 instead of switching over to Carol Shelby!
The GT500 will do just as much if not more than an 03 Cobra...Look at the Supersnake. They are both about equal as far as performance goes in my opinion. With enough money and know how both of these cars can be 9 sec cars heavy or not. You have to remember on the street anything can happen. Ive beaten a couple GT 500's and they are pretty quick cars.

sorry but from personal experience stock for stock the termi handles better...and i said the termi was a better build, because with a smaller engine and only 220 lb difference, the termi is still right with the shelby....

LOL Do they deliberately build these cars heavier each year? How hard is it to build a V8 Mustang around the 3,200lbs mark?
1. My gt500 weighed 3842 my old 04 cobra weighed in just under 3700lbs, thats far from a 400lb difference.
2. If ford outdid themselves with the gt500 bc it weighs 3850lbs what did chevy and dodge do with it's competitors since both the new camaro and srt8 models weigh over 4000lbs.
3. Not even the new zr1 weighs 3200lbs and its a two seater sports car, so how in the hell can you even expect ford to get a 4 seater to weigh 3200lbs.

I'd say the GT500 lost because of a bad combination of lack of experience (shifting, racing period) and weight, the Terminator definitely has a weight advantage considering the GT500 weighs JUST under 2 tons while the Termi weighs in at around 400 lbs lighter which makes a difference. nope. stock GT500 run in the mid/low 12's @118ish. fordl limits boost for the first 500 miles so when the mags test them, they r down about 80whp.
