  • Great stuff! I'll have to learn that on my banjo. What make is that banjo - it's a beauty! Cheers

  • thanks. That was great and now I learn it right. (just for reference, apparently it's not about Richmond, Virginia or so I'm told. . .)

  • I also liked the version by ''gadaya'' as posted to YouTube.

  • This song is played nearly identically to that of Shady Grove. If you know the chords to Shady Grove, you can do this tune to. Spent about an hour on two sessions and got it. Neat tune.

  • Thanks for this contribution Nicely done. Bravo.

  • Very nicely done!! You might try a C# in the 3rd part to take it into a A major, then go back into the mountain minor on the other parts.

  • Great old time music! Love it!

  • a great rendition of the tune, I'm learning fiddle and will be spending some time listening to this! I've posted my band's version of this song as a response, hope you like it.

  • Thanks....I just listened to yours. You really took that tune in a new direction. :) I also am learning fiddle....slooooooowly. It is the toughest instrument I have tried to tackle. Thanks. Larry

  • yeah, it's difficult but a lot of fun so far. my teacher told me on my first lesson that it'd be at least five years before I should even consider playing it with my band and probably ten before I'll be really good. talk about commitment to an instrument!

  • You guys are awesome!

  • excellent job,well done!

  • great dynamic-where is frog hollow?

  • I am so glad to have discovered your version of the tune. Now I am eagerly trying to play it on my fiddle. Thanks a lot.

    Karin from Germany

  • Karin, Great, I am glad you found it interesting. Good luck with learning the tune. Think about posting a video when you are comfortable with it. Larry

  • When I compare my playing to Kari´s I am sure you don´t miss anything not to hear me ;-))

By the way I first heard the tune on a cd by the Fuzzy Mountain String Band some years ago. It is my fvourite tund played by them. Do you also know their version?

    Greetings from a German fiddler

  • cool, never heard this on fiddle before, but that's just awesome

  • Thanks....Kari is the best.....willing to take anything on. I first heard this tune when she did it and handed me the guitar chords. I then had to learn it on banjo, of course. Larry

  • love the song, never heard it played that fast before, where did you learn this version

  • I just picked that tune up by hanging around Kari and listening to youtube vids. I don't recall having the tab. So my reference on speed is not based on any traditional source. I took Kari's lead in this case. It was rather fast. I agree. Next time we'll slow it down. Larry

  • i love the way you guys do the song. the only other person i've heard do it was edden hammons, its a rare song. i love all your videos, keep em coming!

  • never seen it played cross-tuned before. good job!

  • Fantastic version Larry and Kari. This is what it's all about

  • Larry, you rock on the banjo!!!
