The first time I saw Van in SRW K, I went like ".. Satou?"

Satou being the main character of "Welcome to the NHK" and the two of them are identical.

So.. That was fun!

In other notes, Van is pretty much my best pilot in SRW K so far.

By the end of the game, he'll be the strongest character you've got unless you stick all your stat boosting items on one guy. Slap an S space thruster on Dann and he'll be untouchable.

Because of licensing issues. All the series involved are owned by, like, two/three different companies in Japan. In America, though, the rights to distribute are owned by so many companies that getting the green light from all of them would cost so much money, you'd never make a profit. Anyone trying to bring the handheld SRWs over to America would be doing so as a labour of love that they -might- break even on. The fact that OG1 and 2 were commercial failures didn't really help either. ):

GunxSword is an anime series set in a "Planet of Endless Illusions". Van, the protagonist, is looking for a man with a claw on his right hand, who assasinated his bride, to take revenge on him. It is the girl whose back you see at the beginning of Kami wa Sabaki.

Also, you're lucky! Since the series was actually released in North America and Australia, unlike most of the other series in SRTK.

After that, they follow Van in his quest, since apparently, the vengeance thing is only the tip of the iceberg. There's a lot in the stake when it comes to The Claw.
