  • Tornadoes are freaking scary. I'm terrified of storms and I live in Australia so I've never actually seen a real tornado but I get a weird morbid thrill from watching videos of them. Shudder!

  • The issue of kids discover: Tornadoes. had a couple of pages about storm chasers and Tim Marshall was one of them. They interviewed Carson Eads.

  • @TronRider That is interesting. Marshall shot the very first scene in this sequence and Eads was driving. (0:00-0:43)

  • I remember watching all of this footage at school on a VHS tape. This was the footage that got me interested in Tornadoes and Tornadic Weather.

I'm sorry, but I gotta say this... The Tornadoes want Dorothy back...

  • What freaking beast tornado...

  • Got in trouble for what cursing

  • awesome! a t-bolt siren at 2:48

  • This is the most eeriest pre-OK City/Moore (May 1999) tornado I've ever seen.

  • When I grow up I'm gonna become a meteorologist and move out here and try and film these things.

  • I wouldn't call In Andover. I would call It Handover.

  • This twister was epic. It did it for the lulz

  • Holy crap I remember this footage!!! It's a classic!

  • this was from the frist vol of tornado video classics

  • A thundberbolt siren goes off!

  • but I think this footage was from the news so they had to censor it out.

  • Yeah, and the two airmen probably got a fucking fortune for it, too. And they somehow managed to not get court marshalled.

  • @cbehr91 oh yes they did!..i had a high school teacher who was stationed there at the time who knew the guys who filmed that...they got in a lot of trouble.

  • @leewatson01 Well they shouldn'tve got in trouble.

  • @leewatson01 Was the guy who filmed the McConnell AFB footage named Sgt. Todd Cravvat? Who else was on the steps?

  • @cbehr91 I believe they got $1000 for it when they sold it to the local news station and while they were not court marshaled they were in a heap of trouble and military life just wasn't the same for them. We lived there at the time and my parents knew some of the people on the stairs. The news station on the other hand, now they made out like bandits!

  • @itb222 under the circumstances, I think the airmen should have been cut a little slack for saying holy shit over and over....you should have heard what I was saying during the April 8 1998 tornado that hit Oak Grove Alabama

  • they censored all the curse words from the afb footage.

  • The video that this was captured from was edited for "family viewing." There were other videos on it where there was swearing and It was either bleeped or muted.

I have, however, seen this video used on TV shows were they didn't censor it, but I think it's too discrete to hear it (unless somebody's purposely listening for it.)

There used to be an uncut version of the McConnell AFB video, but the person who posted it has unfortunately removed it.

  • i downloaded the old one a while back and reuploaded it. i did credit the user who originally uploaded it

  • @cbehr91 Have you seen Troy Barragree's never before seen video? it's amazing

  • @xxcurnuxx I have no idea who that is, so probably not.

  • What happened with the sirens?

  • The tornado cut the power to them (it's possible to see the flash at 4:00).

    No power = no sirens.

  • The siren system in 1991 did not have battery back up like today's siren system have battery back up I don't never recall in 1991 a siren system having battery back it was impossible then to have battery back up.

  • Battery backup the sirens would still be working. no battery back up = no sirens

  • I'm not too much of an expert on sirens so I assumed that the power was cut to them by the tornado.

  • @cbehr91 i know all 8 of our sirens there is one near me in listening range we have 4 federal signal sirens 3t22, 2 2001-130's, Siratone 612 and 4 whelen 4004's the whelens are a waste of money.

  • @cbehr91 Yes i think it was if the tornado hit the main power line that would cut the power to the sirens then you would have no warning of the tornado coming besides tv, radio or noaa weather radio our emergency manager and i would advise everyone to have one and a place of safety the underpass of a bridge is not a good place to be under when a tornado is chasing you down the highway.

  • @cbehr91 Nah the sirens have the alternative uninterrupted power supply. so when commercial power is lost they usually run from a different power distribution unit which can be like a car battery or an automatic generator at a close location

  • There was another cop driving around the trailer park and he stayed way longer than this cop. Because I lived on the back row, and we were standing at the door waiting for the tornado sirens that didn't go off, and a cop went half way down our road with his sirens blaring, SLAMMED on his breaks and sped out backwards. We left right then, and the twister was hitting the park literally one minute later. That cop was way braver than this cop.

  • Too bad he didn't have a dash cam.

  • Yeah, no doubt.

  • 6:33 COME ON

    its still aways away

    ITS NOT THAT FAR

  • great.. illegally parked in a handicapped zone. That's Kansas police for you!! (Emergency or not)

  • I hear a Tunderbolt at 2:49

  • omg! they stay alive for a long time

  • 3:25 o.v.n.i ???

  • It's all the same tornado just from different places.

  • I herd from another tornado video (not on youtube) that at the base there were 2 B-1 bombers w/ nuclear wareheads!!!

  • There were.

  • thats what I heard

  • There were; meaning I was telling you there were not asking you. Sorry, I should've cleared that up.

  • At 2min 49sec in, you can hear a Federal Signal Thunderbolt 1000T siren wind up.

  • OMG REGIUS

  • Are those the McConnell AFB sirens I hear at 3:24 and 3:30?

  • Yes. That video was taken roughly at the same time but on the back lit side of the tornado (making it whiteish gray)

  • What does that "Contains content from:" with the logo of The National Geographic next to some Japanes text mean? Just because they have a video with some footage of the Andover twister doesn't make this "their" content.

  • I guess it does because they've copyrighted it. But they still allow other videos up as long as they can put ads and take statistics on whose watching and demographics etc... I could fight the claim but I'm going to.

  • Stormchaser3751's copied this video and that all that NatGeo shit is on his/mine video too!

  • Awsome fotage!

  • Awesome!

  • Thanks for uploading this!

  • @ColonelAngus75 Do you remember the worse tornado outbreak you have been through?

  • @csx2295

The May 5, 1989 tornado outbreak was the closest one to happen near where I live. An F4 went through the southeast portion of the county I live in about 10 miles away from where I live.

  • A few tornado outbreaks i have been through were in 1994, 1999, 2006, and 2008 the April 2, 2006 tornado outbreak was way too close to me in Brownsville, Tennessee a F2 tornado destroyed 24 houses 1 house completely destroyed one pushed off its foundation our tornado hit on the west side of Brownsville when it reached the center part of town and close to my house the tornado lifted up went over the other half of the city touched down again in Haywood County, Tennessee moving east .
