I type emerald --replace in the terminal box. The curser is flashing (has been for half an hour). When I tried to close the box down I got a message "there is still a process running message" How long does it take to run?

it sounds like more than just an emerald problem... you are sure you have video drivers enabled and you are typing this in a run box (not a terminal)? It should only take 5 seconds maximum (normally less for me)

ok now i install it but wen i try doing the emerald --replace and it dont do eny thing

NEED help wen i do the sudo apt -get -y install emerald it tells me !command not found!.... if it helps eny how am not using ubuntu am useing madriva

there is no space between apt and -get.  It should read

sudo apt-get -y install emerald

cool but in my emerald when i try to import theme it only sees *.emerald files, the tar.gz files are not visible (i downloaded the same theme you did). can you tell me why is this happening ?

That is what normally happens. Emerald cannot use compressed files (tar.gz). Try extracting the .emerald file somewhere.

first of all thanks for this tutorial i finally got emerald to work as i wished (i couldn't figure out how to apply theme on login automatically). Second - now i get it i extracted theme from archive and all works fine. I'm noob in using linux :). Thanks again.
