@jarblewarble Good morning. It's made in a program called artmatic (for the mac). It's one of those making art with numbers thing (in reality it's more like pressing the "randomize all" button, and hope for the best... thing...)
It can also produce basic sounds and in this I think it's a brownian noise and a swirly thing, not real fractal... it's been years since I made it and I hardly knew what I was doing at the time... It's really just an early experiment... =)
@enzeth Is this a cellular automaton, or is it some other kind of evolving scalar field? It looks like some kind of chaotic system to me, but I'm not sure what it is exactly.
@wintrglittr Morning, the visuals and graphics are made with the same mathematical equations, that's why I called it SYNTHETIC synesthesia... I know very well that it isn't real... I have mild synesthesia myself...
I played this full screen and it scared the shit out of me. Really made me feel uneasy... although that might be due to the fact that I was constantly expecting a screamer or something :P
oh my gosh that scared me so much! it made me feel... anxiety and panic. is this normal? my pulse started to race too bad and i got a headache so I had to stop in the middle of it.
I could never show people what mine is like. Mines like... each instrament gets a different color, and shade depending on pitch, and more so, it's like 3D and around me and stuff.
Like, for the music, it was wierd dark purples and orange, getting lighter as it got higher in pitch. XD
Yes! That is associating synesthesia. It's where you associate things in your mind. The kind where you actually experience with your five senses is called projecting synesthesia. I have the associating kind. all my numbers have their own colors in my head when I think of them. Some of my letters of the alphabet too. Some of my letters are also male or female. And when I hear music I see shapes in head. It's a highly fascinating condition.
Yes it is, that's how I experience it, the sounds have very much motion to them - it seems like the fact that I hear it gives what I'm seeing some level of 3 dimensional depth
I see a strong coloration between the change in patterns and change in sound. BUT, 1.) Does that mean anything, about me? and 2.) Is that technically synesthesia? I'm not sure if I have it or not, I think of letters as having colors, but I never see them directly.
Its really interesting to see what other synesthetics see when they hear sounds. I just recently found out that what went on while i listened to music and read words wasnt "normal". Its a pretty sweet condition if there ever was one.
woah! overload! lol! Yeah, and it is different for each person, so no chance of him putting up exactly what you see. Good luck getting two synes to agree on anything!
I loved the music in this video, but I had to close my eyes as the swirls made me feel sick, they did not replicate my own synaesthetic representation, but when i closed my eyes i saw a each coloured note flash in it's own spot repeatedly in my minds eye until it formed a pattern. I can only discribe it like when you were a kid and you would hammer nails into a piece of wood then make patterns with string around the nails, except in this case the nails would be lighting up with each note .
I watched it first with no sound to see if I heard anything, and then I listened to it with my eyes closed. The second of my experiments had a better outcome than the first. And then I watched and listened to it together... it was a mess.
It's mostly the spiral. The sounds have no spiral to them at all. They're kind of like a flattened, jagged bubble and tied to the bottom. They're purple-magenta in the middle and dull lime green around the edges (and cyan later), then they stretch vertically.
Just to clear things up, this is computer generated, I have a very mild "occational synesthesia", if there is such a term, myself and these are not the correct colours, nor were they ever meant to be. The colours and the sounds are made out of the same data, that is what I meant with "synthetic synesthesia". Where is this linked from by the way? it seems a bit odd that this video suddenly got so popular... have a nice day =)
I swear to god at 1:14 it was moving left.

@enzeth Also, do you have the source code for this? What computer programs were used in the making of this?

Do you think you can put up a download link? This would look great without all the pixely things YouTube sends out.

I actually felt some synesthesia with the speed of the swirl and the music. Maybe it's just too much lsd use but I feel it.

The beginning is almost accurate to mine, actually except it's 2D. But the spiral thing is foreign to me. good idea, though.

i dont see letters and see colors, but instead i hear things and associate colors with the sounds. do you know if that is a form of synesthesia?

1(black). I am a girl.
2 (red). I do not do ANY drugs.
3(yellow). This is a real medical condition. However it is not a debilitating condition. On the contrary, it enhances your sensory experience.
4(green). Read more about synesthesia, or get a life.
CalicoMeow 2 years ago
Yeah, I actually do know what synesthesia is. My apologies. I, not you, had smoked doobie when I wrote.

@CalicoMeow
Wow! :))
Yes, 1 is black :) 2 is red :) 4 is green :)
I would say that 3 is orange (quite similiar to yellow) :)
Almost identical colours :))

As a general comment...that video made me start crying.
