  • Injectors are defective

  • this noise become from a hydraulic tappet

  • what is the 'nailing' sound? i should probably just google it..

  • this is normally :) my dads 300d has nearly 400000km and makes the same sound!!!

  • Nice caddylack!!!!

  • Is it smoking? No? Injectors OK.

  • @SkywalkerTibor Injectors are bad!

  • HI, I have the same car. W124 '87 Turbodiesel and had the same noise. I replaced the injectors but the noise is still there. Sounds exactly like this one on the video. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • normal sound fine engine! you can drive 50 % plantoil in the fuel. that makes the engine less noisy, need such a engine cheap, do you know where to buy it?

  • @RussianNikolai you can run these engines on corn oil, aft fluid, some times motor oil if its filtered and mixed with diesel. if you do a 75% corn oil 25% diesel mix this noise goes away. other then that all i can suggest is a diesel purge. this is just the typical noise of a mercedes diesel.

  • The nailing is ok. It's a diesel. Maybe the Valves have got too much space.

  • dude, it sounds to me like you have bad nozzles. go for the bosio nozzles. they are the best.

  • takies hidraulicos

  • NEVER REDUCE YOUR INJECTOR PRESSURE. All it will do is over advance the timing and GREATLY increase the combustion chamber pressures. THIS ENGINE HAS AN ALUMINUM HEAD that is already somewhat prone to cracks.

This recording is actually not quite clear enough to differentiate injector nailing from tappet clicks, another characteristic of this Mercedes engine. Testing the tappets, see email below, is easy or use Mobil 1/Delvac 1 5W-40 diesel oil, if it gets quieter=tappets, if not=injectors.

  • Te silniki są nie do zdarcia ;)

  • How long do you have this car? The injectors sound perfectly right. Assuming, you bought it recently the previous owner might have installed new ones. I think for the turbo-versions you take an opening pressure of 140 bar (about 115 bar for others). But the injectors need to settle to that point, so they usually put it about 10 bar higher. It takes about 10.000 km until they settle during which time they are pretty much nailing as in your case. If it really annoys you, reduce it by 15 bar.

  • This motor sounds perfect

  • I have an '87 300D. Diesel purge will work for a short while but it doesn't really help with worn out injectors. For the OM 603 check these: 1.timing chain wear 2.injection timing 3.injector pop test and spray pattern.

For 3. write here- HessianImports -at- bellsouth -dot- net

It's a local guy near me who imports parts directly from Germany and is a good help.

  • i have a 98 ford mondeo 1.8 turbo diesel could you pls tell me when should i change the injectors?? and could i damage the engine by not changin them. thank you

  • bold1970,

I sent a message to your in box. There is no specific time to set the injectors but they should be tested after about 100,000 Km or so. Test results will determine replacement or adjustment. In a 4 cylinder, replacement of the nozzles is very likely after so many Km.

  • How does one check for Injector Timing? Please watch my video response and tell me if you hear anything wrong.

  • Sounds good to me maybe its time to do a diesel purge...
