Great stuff. My UK 67 been all over the place. Round Europe three times, up mountains, dirt tracks, off road, forded rivers, ploughed through snow and so on. Been on the road continuously until about 4 yrs ago (bought it in 87) and have now begun properly restoring it - removing botched patchwork welding and home made upgrades meant to keep it running and correctly repairing and replacing bits. Still have most original components. looking forward to sitting behind the wheel again.
It's a good camping car for conditions like 0:26 to 0:29. Nothing more than that kind of dirt road. If you want to use more extreme road, use a Bronco.
My relatives down in Mexico use the old VW vans as ranch vehicles and for excursions into the mountains. My jeep or NIssan pick-up can handle more extreme terrain but those vans are damn tough and can go more places than you would believe. I would love to have one for camping trips.
This is just awesome! I just bought my first bus project after years of driving beetles. This video makes me even more anxious to get it on the road (or off of it, as the case may be) ;)
Yep,I bet its a kick butt 1970 Dodge Challenger with a supercharger but rather than it being made out of metal its made out of air allowing it to get an amazing MPG and avoid all collisions!
Hey devhis, how about I dump your face in some water and keep it there until you stop breathing? Volkswagen Busses are the most kick-ass vehicle ever to exist. I have one (a 1972 Kombi standard) with 533,467 miles on it, and all I need to do now is replace the blown motor, a job that requires about 400 bucks (for the purchase of the engine) and a few hours to get it in and running. Plus, for 2WD it champs it better offroad than any 2WD Blazer or Jimmy I've ever driven. Go play with your toys now
nice rack with all your shit on top like your going on a kangaroo hunt.

Hahaha!! X-D This one has a full length roofrack with flotsam attatched! Now there's top heavy, and then there's top heavy!
wordreet 2 years ago
Beetles are good as trials vehicles. So no reason wy not the van. Engine over the rear wheels makes for excellent traction!
wordreet 2 years ago 2
You are right Wordreet, having the engine over the rear axle is good.
However, the bus is also quite top heavy, so it's does have some drawbacks.
That said, it still amases me how much they go trough.
And if you thought the old van here is good in terrain, then look up the VW Synco.
It's bloody amazing.

That is a Type 2, not a Type 1.

xD
Sry but my grandma can see that that is a T1 Bus!
Jupp1986 3 years ago
A Type 1 is the proper name for a Beetle. My grandma can see that it's a camper van and not a car.
reachforthelasers 3 years ago
T1 means Transporter 1. Its like T2,T3... till the T5, the newest Transporter.
I know Type one is a bug but there stand "VW t1" ;)
Jupp1986 3 years ago
I see what you mean. Transporter 1, not Type 1. So it's like a T2 and a T1 at the same time?
That's really weird.
