Blame it on the non-bossa nova.. This is not a bossa rhythm, and Expert Village should refine their examples of expertise. Besides, having advertising runnign across the bottom quarter of the screen make most videos unwatchable. Apparently the days of "free" videos to watch are nearly over. To the drummer: Is Expert Village and their banner advertisers paying you money each time this is viewed? If not, you are being exploited for your drumming knowledge & skills.

Nope,  BUZZZ. That is not a bossa nova. In fact that will square up a band that can play real Bossa Nova and make them sound square. Try it with the clave rhythm either straight or inverted in your left hand. Tighten you hats. Bossas will swing just a little at the end of the form.

Listen to Milton Banana on all of that old bossa nova stuff to get the feel.
