  • Very interesting overview of the asteroid discoveries in the past 30 years.

  • I just love the song... who is it?

  • WoW, Staring at the sun "yellow dot" with room light down for about 10 seconds

then pause the video and the asteroids will starts to go the other way round... :)

  • Southpark will soon have an episode called Ass Steroids. And Nicki Minaj will be the subject. And I will have a good laugh. This comment has nothing to do with this video. This I know.

  • Man, there's so much metal and mineral out there!!! You could do anything with such a quantity of materials!!!

  • @Alaska1925 thats what im talkin about everytimes, its an unthinkable mass of resources

  • How do you track an asteroid? Do you number them by what they look like? How do find asteroids behind other asteroids?

  • mid 1980

Vegeta, what does the scanner say on our asteroid count?

    ITS OVER NINE THOUSAND!!!!

  • fun effect, after the video stops the asteroids still seem to be rotating

  • gołym okiem nie jesteśmy wstanie oszacować jak daleko był ten obiekt wiadomo. Ale w jakiej odległości by nie był , to i tak zasuwał nie ziemsko, i się to powtarza co jakiś czas.

naked eye, we are not able to estimate how far this object was known. But how close he was, it still does not zasuwał terrestrially, and this is repeated from time to time.

  • jupiter stabilize the system solar with his big gravity

  • The world is already fucked up so I don't really care

  • @MrFaelon '' The world is already fucked up so I don't really care ''

    - Spoiled rich kid #564536 living in the suburbs of some first world country.

  • @yakomuto Hahaha xd i just mean you cant do nothing bout it .

  • @yakomuto Wtf?

  • @MrFaelon

Well let's hope, whatever happens, that all discoveries and scientific progress will be saved somehow somewhere for something. Would be pretty disappointing to lose everything if somehow the "world" ends.

  • @AttilaKattila Yeah true ;p

  • you do realize this isn't to scale at all... if you think the dots represent their true size, the sun would be 400 times larger than the earth dot instead of like twice its size. Asteroids pass within the earth - moon system quite frequently without impacting. Check out spaceweather website and look at the PHAs if you are really that worried.

  • For those who "oh my god, if there are so many dots, they all hit earth" do not worry ! the video gives the impresion thet they are very close , but in reality the closest dot that you can see in the video is out there sever light years far !

    so , relax !

  • @St3Fi a light year is a bit larger than you may think it is

  • That can't be right. From that video, it would seem that earth is constantly being hit by asteroids. I know that we are hit by small ones all the time, but if you look at that video, it would seem that we should be getting hit with much larger ones all the time also. And we aren't. Not like that video shows. Alot of those little dots have to be bigger than all the little rocks that burn up in the atmosphere.

  • @TheSlykboy we got a plane !! you see that video in 2D its a lot different in 3D couse some are about the plane some are below .. and some are on the same orbit as we are ... the point is some object is below and some are above and other´s are in the orbit of earths !! *peace dude :)

  • Dummies quoting scripture as usual...

  • 35 people must have clicked wrong button because of excitement

  • What time of year is the earth closest to teh astroid belt?

  • @TheBradrook

Good question, the earth's orbit is not a perfect circle, so if you look up the date that the earth is at 'aphelion' you will find the time of year, I'll give you a hint, it was the 4th day of a month this year, but what date will it be next year? good look!

  • Almost all are small under 500 meters. If they aren't metallic they will desintegrate in our atmosphere. In fact I have an idea: send spaceships to push them in our atmosphere on Mars, Venus, on moon and Ceres and Vesta to make them bigger.

  • @RadioactivFallout Actually, 100meter and larger objects are almost guaranteed to reach the surface rather than expliding in the atmosphere.

  • Really cool awsome video, great job. What I thank the author for the most though is introducing me to Trifonic, from the song in this video I went on to purchace the album in wave and listen to it regularly for 6 months or so now. I thank you sir and I really hope they bring out another album. Probobly one of the best albums I have purchased in the past year.

  • how can they possibly keep track of and differentiate between so many asteroids? furthermore, if there are that many, why can't they be seen with the naked eye?

  • @abobjenkins

An answer to your first question could be that they have a database that keeps track of things, like a library inventory, An Answer to your 2nd question- asteroids are small, Space is big. Your second question is like, ''if there are so many ants in the world...why can't I see them when I'm standing up?''

  • @marmaladekamikaze ants hide underground. i can see them when i stand up as long as they're topside. asteroids float in free space. if there are this many floating so close to us, i'd think something would be visible without a telescope.

  • Do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven would not cause the earth to swallow you and suddenly it would sway? 67:16 Or do you feel secure that He who [holds authority] in the heaven would not send against you a storm of stones? Then you would know how [severe] was My warning. 67:17And already had those before them denied, and how [terrible] was My reproach. 67:18 The Quran

  • Man, they really downplayed the old asteroid belt on every solar system chart I've ever seen.

  • @NocturnaLucid Can you blame them? If they tried to put every known asteroid on a printed chart it'd be out of date before the it finished printing.

  • Neat video! I am an artist on YouTube trying to promote my theory on the dynamics of light and time

This theory is based on just two postulates

    1. The first is that the quantum wave particle function represents the forward passage of time itself

    2. The second is that Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle that is formed by the wave function is the same uncertainty we have with any future event

  • @nickharvey7 Hahaha, bollocks.

  • man this video would be the best to have a ghost pop out and scream at the end.. I was so zoned in and i'm in my basement alone @ 1 in the morn in the dark. I literally would have screamed and probably pooped my shorts..

  • Green lanterns ring

  • not real

  • Proof that is no GOD...why put such a beautiful planet in the path of all of that chaos?

  • @MikeNitro94 honestly im not racist or any thing but god is defently not real and the bible even proves this because adam and eve are white if they started the world why is my best friend phillapino? is he alian?

  • @wickeddeadly1 first off, the bible never states that adam and eve were white.second the bible says that eve gave birth to the nations(all races)thirdly, how can the bible prove anything if god isnt real.the bible is gods book,if god wasnt real how can something he inspired disprove him?

  • Respond to this video... very cool

  • @wickeddeadly1 adam and eve were NOT white. the name "adam" means red. he was taken from red dirt.

  • At the end it looks like an eye :]

  • Amazing vid!

  • There's a ton of red ones. Thats a little scary...hehe...he....:(

  • Someone knows the name of the track?

  • WOAH! AMAZING, how did they get a camera so high up there to film this amazing 30year time lapse, technology this days man!!!! CRAZY, CRAZY I TELLS YA!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheLodilodimahony Leonid Stadnik did it for them...for free.

  • Whoa, that's a lot of space rock. Won't we have problems navigating this cloud of asteroids on our way out of the solar system?

  • Like this if the movie kept spinning even though it ended

  • @xerent2 Did it spin clockwise or counter for you? It spun clockwise for me!

  • I don't get it.

  • OMG We are a pin prick in this universe !!!!!

  • uau

  • so many asteroids LOL but none want to crash to earth :(

  • سبحان الله العظيم ما أعظم خلقه وأدقه

  • @algarnywsm Who the heck is Odgah?

  • By the way; your videos on asteroid discovery are awsom...

  • Breath taking and frighteningly implicative. Well done!

  • AN OPEN MINDED PERSON HOLDS THE HOLLY GRAIL OF WISDOM! HAVE YOUSELF A WONDERFUL LIFE...

  • The economy and global political side show doesn't seem so important after watching this. As our solar system crosses through the galactic plane, the asteroids and debris fields get much more dense. We are but a pin prick in this universe aren't we?

  • @frankdusome less than a pin prick.

  • Did you know that scientists discovered a new sub atomic particle responsible for blowing the light bulbs? That's right... They named it the FAGGOTRON!

Although thats a joke; atoms are very simple devises of nature that in accordance to my theory they can be produced synthetically under controlled conditions, at will. These tiny axioms aren't made of all the crap that students are tough under the current atomic theory.

  • Nice, to bad that humanity won't be able to jack shit because 95 % of our species are so fucking lost onstage really going on. Hope we get a good sized one that plows into us and cleans up our genetic gene pool.

  • wow..

seems like gonna crash to earth and the other planets in a few more years..

    CMIIW

  • This is great! Thank you

  • Just imagine.. physical evidence of this had existed for million upon millions of years, the were there just hanging about in their humdrum locations around our sun , They have existed all along, a certain carbon based life form discovering them changes NOTHING.

IT isnt till the past few hundred years have the human race finally been able to open their eyes as to what was actually out there, here we are newly amazed at the existing harmony, what about those that came before us ???

  • a similar animation may be the same for the beyond-neptune objects too?

  • how the fuck are we not dead

  • @OminousHaze LOOLOLOLOL

  • WOW. This looks a lot like an Atom. Micro to Macro its all the same. The question is to ask what is it saying?? To me it seems to be that we can never complain. For we are free and safely contained. Time comes and goes but the circle remains.

  • @jqs1943 I have no idea what this crazy dude is on about

  • @szyzyg Many others before me have also been called crazy dudes. It was this nut the one that revealed the size of the atom to the world and also the fact that a gravitational force field has a secondary field which repels other worlds. The fact that an ascending body loses weight at a rate of .005 % per mile of ascension. By the way. How are chemical elements formed? Where do they originate. Are you one of those geniuses that believes that planet earth was formed from exploded stars?

  • @jqs1943 weight is a force, it is a measure of the force of gravity applied to a mass, this force changes with the inverse square of the distance from the objects, but mass does not change. Elements up to Iron were formed in stars (nuclear fusion), those above iron were formed in super nova. This is basic astrophysics really. The earth was not "formed" from exploding stars, but the atomic elements (above iron) were.

  • @jqs1943 Your sound like a crappy Sci Fi Autor.

  • @Denis10k Creck your spelling on AUTOR it doesn't exist. AUTHOR! We make lots of sweet money from critical non believers as well as from those that believe but fail to develop theories from facts because they lack the imagination and education to do so.

  • @jqs1943 so your are a grammar nazi ? nice to meet you too

  • @Denis10k Not really, but if you believe that grammar can be converted on to something other, we could modify it and say that gamma rays, just as electricity, magnetism, x rays, and other naturally occuring energies are founded on matter as a harmonic produced by the same families of frequencies that weave to produce intrinsec lattices of matter, and that frequencies that are cut off prior or after a cycle of evolution generates a field that serves to establish molecules.

  • @jqs1943 My believes are none of your concern. I will not start to argue with you because i cant win against someone like you. Every argument by me will be crushed by something you made up. Have fun trolling (or whatever this is what you do) someone else. Over and out

  • @jqs1943 this is gibberish

  • We should take resources from asteroids.SOMEHOW and there should be a public space telescope for astronomers.

  • lol isint this enough proof that humans dont exist by coinsidence? there is a balance for anything and everything in the universe goes in his own orbit they just follow what is commanded for them... its a sign

  • Can somebody please tell me which planets is in this video? Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars in the middle and then Jupiter far out?? But isent this the overall look of the solar system?

  • OMG! That's a lot of asteroids coming towards us! I'm glad none on them did any serious damage, or wipe out humanity, by far.

  • @PetroBeherha the dinosaur said "what?"

  • @Anonymous1205 Actually, new, smaller asteroids are creates in collisions between asteroids. So the number of objects can go up. The total mass however is going down.

  • maybe humankind could exist in peace only because of the many stones there preventing anybody from coming to close with interstellar travels, a natural barrier and protective shell ;) but the last fifty years or so, we have been making too much noise, probably, so now, the scouts are here already...

  • @Anonymous1205 How so ?

  • Scary thing is year by year theres more asteroids at the end there were alot of red ones! By 2036 there can be alot and eventually hit us :(

  • where they (asteroids) come from?

  • @zeltazeltite

From what I remember, asteroids are 'leftovers' of solar material that was present when the solar system first formed. Some scientists speculate that had it not been for the planet Jupiter providing a gradual, constant tug on the asteroids, they would have eventually coalesced into another planet.

  • 27 people do not even know what it is an asteroid xD

  • Means we are not alone there must be something called life else where in the universe. A great educative vid.

  • Please check out this website dedicated to research and mitigation of potentially hazardous asteroids. Also, you can register for the upcoming International Symposium on Asteroid Mitigation and Exploration held on April 4, 2011.

  • We must evolve faster!!

  • Fascinating! What protects us may also destroy us.

  • Fascinating! What protects us may also destroy us.

  • These asteroids are adding masses. Wow. surely the ring will get to us if not stabilised into orbit.

The asteroid belt is going to have more and more mass that would bring more asteroid into orbit.

Now we have other stray part of the ring trailing the planets, truly frightening.

  • how are we still here...

  • Bad ass video!

  • Close?

At the scale of this animation, the Earth is ~500 times smaller than the blue dot you see representing it. In fact, very very few of these objects come closer to Earth than the Moon, and you generally hear about them in the news.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "close"...

  • It's amazing how many of them get so close to the earth!

  • that rocks

  • a miracle that we are living down here...

  • Астероидная тюрьма.

  • WHY NOTHING NEW EVER SEEN AT ABOUT THE 5 O'CLOCK DIRECTION? Watch it every time around - shuts off and sees nothing for a split second! The white field, spinning counter-clockwise, shows new objects detected. Right about the 5 o'clock position (170 degrees), it blanks out each time around. Why do the detectors 'blink' EVERY time when looking in that direction?

  • @dc2bnaz I've heard two reasons - both of which contribute:

First this is the direction of the milky way, so there are more stars in that direction which makes it harder to pick out asteroids.

Secondly, this monsoon season in Arizona, which means it gets very cloudy and most of the prolific discovery telescopes are situated here and as such are unable to observe.

  • @szyzyg Thanks for the reply. These are plausible explanations. I live in Arizona and yes, this blank spot does correspond to the cloudy summer monsoon season. I can believe this explanation.

  • @szyzyg Is that not the holidays, I'm assuming the detection process isn't completely automated!

  • @dc2bnaz

Good question, don't know. But looks like it's summer time at around that moment (. Most detectors have always been ground based and thus affected by weather. My guess is it's either in June or August. Perhaps it's storm season? Or perhaps scheduled maintenance? Can't think of any astronomical reason why that area is void each year for the past 30 years. I'm sure there's some mundane answer to that question. The area does get mapped finally at the very end by the side scanning.

  • This gives me the feeling like if you had your eyes closed while walking, feeling safe and alone, and you open them, and you're smack in the middle of a 20 lane highway, where all lanes have no speed limits and it's mostly trucks driving by. You're gonna get his sooner or later by a big truck! Dinosaur Deja Vu?

  • Wormwood is in there...

    Revelation 8:10-11

And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.

  • asteroids are gay

  • @Ratama Hehe what's the milky way than?

  • That is an amazing video.:)

  • Are ass-teroids the hemorrhoids of space?

  • @NicoretteMan So it would seem.....

  • astounding!

  • wow amazing, there are so many asteroids, but the probability that one of them would hit the inner planets are however very low.

  • space is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wide it means it has alot of space

  • GOD CRAP IT :|

  • 530091asteroids is gonna destroy the earth.

  • fake.....asteroid arent real....it doesnt say anything about asteroids in the bible, therefore it isnt real.

  • @REDTEAM22003 wow, greatest ignorance right here. Braaaaaainwashed! Are you a zombie, cuz zombies are cool!

  • trolling with you

  • Great video! A good example for an infographic video.

    Best wishes for 2011....

    ....Ralf Schoofs

  • and this video shos what an red dot will do.

    youtube.com/watch?v=-zvCUmeoHpw

  • green - safe in orbit

Yellow - will burn in atmos

Red - will kill all life on impact

    white - just discoverd.

and you can see when advances in tec. made and impact on discoverys.

  • @kazumakata sorry you´re wrong, read the description, it says:

The final colour of an asteroids indicates how closely it comes to the inner solar system.

    Earth Crossers are Red

Earth Approachers (Perihelion less than 1.3AU) are Yellow

    All Others are Green

red need not necessarily do ANY damage...

  • @kazumakata

Yellow = Asteroid comes within the orbit of Mars

Red = Asteroid comes within the orbit of Earth

  • @kazumakata From the description:

    Earth Crossers are Red

Earth Approachers (Perihelion less than 1.3AU) are Yellow

    All Others are Green

  • @kazumakata I didnt notice the reds until about 3/4 of the way through it... now I feel a bit unnerved after watching this haha.

  • Ikuisuuden kalenteri. Jokaisella on aikansa.

  • Great video!

  • What we need is a spaceship that can turn around 360° to fire at these asteroids and the occasional flying saucer.

  • Ah yeah

  • now what?

  • Is there software similar to J-Track that would allow the user to zoom, rotate, change time, click each asteroid to see its name, orbit, etc.?

    Would be very cool!

  • I like the three way detecting at start of 2010, how does it work? it detects at dusk and dawn too?

  • When it comes to the numbers in the bottom-left corner, how are you defining "asteroid," by the way? The list of numbered "minor planets" originally just included asteroids, but now it includes centaurs, damocletians, Kuiper Belt objects, scattered disc objects, dwarf planets... pretty much everything except for planets, moons and comets. IMO (I'm not sure if this is the accepted definition) an asteroid is a minor planet made mostly of non-volatile stuff like rock and metal.

  • we're surrounded!!!

  • Damn nature you scary

  • My keys are there, somewhere.

  • @intigfx and my socks.

  • Очень интересно

  • Thank you for upload

  • so thats what they spent their money on - on searching for goddamed asteroids, on which theres nothing interesting at all

  • @grzybek110

Each red dot in the vid is is an Armageddon waiting in the wings. Knowing when & where is key to prevention. That's why so much money is spent on something with "nothing interesting at all".

    Peace

  • @grzybek110 No, Mercury takes roughly 87 days to orbit the sun.

  • @gabbygall makes perfect sense now, thanks!

  • I'm only a freshman in highschool, so I'm probobly wrong, but doesn't it take mercury about 1 earth day to rotate the sun? sorry, not trolling, I'm just curious

  • @masterbias so is this asteroid map thing fake or something? (still not trolling, lol)

  • @superchickenbob In the perspective i don't think it's "fake". its computer made at least as what i can see. - but i probably looks like that in the real world <.<

  • Its cool how the earth is like in the best spot of this system...

but anyway... i guess we just saw exactly why Aliens have never officially visited the earth... the person dumb enough to cross that asteroid field would be Han Solo.

  • bhaa only veld left who had the A,B,C rocks already ?

  • 22 people had their homeworlds destroyed by asteroids. >_>

  • it looks like an eye

  • what's the song?

  • Maybe we will find a way to use them as a resource for something would be nice

  • @Urruko264 people with the power arent just gunna sit around when the earth is about to be destroyed. there suposed to be ice and rock. water source maby?

  • ...so there you have it , all kinds of material weath, just waiting to be consumed on the infinite path to survival by conversion, as homo spapiens migrate outwards .

~may this speices reach the sentient point of wisdom where it is possilbe to begin to repay the universe back by preserving other life and helping , for all that this speices has taken from the universe to get thus far.
