Perfect representation of a road-weary but articulate Rick--on his toes and at his best--you can tell the two Steves like the him but have to ask a few cheesy questions to keep it punchy..
Some people wonder why so many artists dislike doing interviews. Well, this is why. These two interviewers are unoriginal geeks, asking the same cliche questions that every rock interviewer asks and misinterpreting what the band & music are about. "It's still that sort of slick rock n roll package that gets people in" (comparison to KISS). Huh? CT was not a packaged 'image band' in any way. I applaud Rick for not getting up & walking out, 'cuz I probably would have.
@Ken5244 Well-said. As I was watching the interview I thought to myself "what a couple of douche-bags these two interviewers are. Stupid questions, stupid statements". Like you said, comparing Cheap Trick to KISS....WTF? Was he suggesting that the band was ripping off KISS or what. What a couple of dildos-brains.
There has been a huge amount of new CT stuff on YT lately. That's great. Rick's an oddball genius, man. What a guitar genius. He is like a walking encyclopedia of riffs and cliches, and he spews it all out at every show--and it really works. Rick's amazing.
The guy on Rick's left is asking the stupidest questions. However, nice interview and thanks for posting. I think he's pulling their leg a bit, but can't blame him.
@angelltube "How many guitars do you have in tonnage?" (How I wish Neilsen would have responded) "Well, Steve, I don't measure guitars in 'tonnage' I measure them in BTUs. So how many BTUs of guitars do I have? Well, I have about 510 gallons." But that probably would have been a little smarty pants for him.
I know that all of Cheap Trick are really classy people. The first tour our band went on They took us out on the road for about a month. Rick kept giving advice about this and that, mainly "your taking to many amps with you you only need 2-4 full stacks. Had to call my dad to come get about 2/3's of them. Now I just use fou Mesa-Boogie Triple Rectifiers and four cabinets, 2 straight and 2 slanted. Alot less stuff to mess with. They really work with young bands, advice etc.......
@ashestoashes2 I was in a band called Carpe Diem, seize the day. And it was around 85-87. Thanks for the spelling advise. But I don't need morons explaining to me, grammar and bad spelling. So just keep your PICKY ASS comments to yourself, if you don't mind.
I saw him on a food network show w/ Rachel Ray. I believe he lives in Chicago and has his own restaurant that serves awesome food. They were taping an eppisode there for one of Rachel's shows and the place was packed. Anyone know the name of his restaurant?
@arrogantworms1 I had court jury duty with Bun.s wife 3 years ago and we made her jury foreman.Nice gal said the band was on the road all of the time.
When I was 11 we took a vacation to Dallas in 1982. My dad had been in the workout area, and he came running into the hotel room. Hurry up! Rick Nielson is down in the workout room!
We go down, and here's Rick Nielson. My dad had asked him if he could please wait while he goes to get his kid for a picture. Nielson, done working out, waits 10 minutes, tired and sweaty, for this stranger to get his kid. Rick put his arm around me and dad took a couple of pictures of us. Super nice guy.
Rick currently has about 400 guitars in his collection; he tours with about 50 at any given time. Mostly it's for the visual effect, but it's also for backup....he plays 'em Hard.
That's astounding (if Rick's not "having them on" a bit) that he had *40* guitars with him on tour. I can't imagine needing more than five, and that'd be only if you were performing music much more varied and complex than CT's. Let's see; an acoustic six, an acoustic twelve, a Fender-type solid-body electric, a Gibson-type solid-body electric, and a Rickenbacker semi-hollow-body twelve --- that'd pretty-much cover any sound a guitarist would need to make (fewer, with the right pedals ;-) ).
Awesome guitarist, underrated songwriter, and a guy who presented himself as the court jester/ oddball which brought a perfect visual symmetry to Cheap Trick. Long Live Rick Nielsen !!!

His restaurant is in Chicago, and it is called 'Piece.' It's a pizza place, with its own brewery, and lots of live music. It's great.
